Amar'e is a HUGE upgrade in terms of talent. Dlee was a 20-10 guy and an all-star but he is not close to amare in terms of athletic ability or basketball prowess. Amar'e is a stud and all signs have pointed towards him only getting healthier and more hungry as time has gone on. Add that with his increased maturity and desire to win and we will bring the knicks to life and back into the playoffs.

Even if we don't land a LeBron or Wade out of this.

And no, Donnie walsh made this plan and presented it to Dolan before he even knew what players were available in this free agent market. It was only after they discussed it for some time that they took a look at the names of the free agency list. Then we, the knicks fans, and the rest of the nba fans got hyped up about the possiblity of LeBron in a knicks uniform.

Be that as it may WORST CASE SCENARIO is we end up with Amar'e and a few role players (ridnour? tmac?) out of this year and look to next year for more FA's or possible trades. This team with Amar'e is now destined for the playoffs, probably a 5th seed. I'd say we're better then ATL as it stands right now and could compete with boston and orlando in a 7 game series.

This is now my 2nd post because I just found this forum, but I've been a die-hard Knick fan since... lets see, when did I get sucked in? Believe it was the NBA finals against the Bulls and I was around 8 or 10 yrs old.

Then I really got into the NBA and the Knicks were MY team. I STILL despise Reggie Miller. I was glued to all the Knicks/Pacers games, and the Rockets/Knicks games and have some epic memories of cheering on the team then. Still get psyched when I watch old games on YouTube and hear the NBA-on-NBC jingle. And I will always always miss John Starks and his 3s and everything else.

I've stuck by the Knicks all these years, tuned into as many games as I could, attended ALL their away games when they played in towns anywhere near where I was living at the time. Even a Mavs-Knicks game in Dallas that wasn't even a contest- the Knicks wiped the floor with the Mavs. Awesome.

I'm 28 now- 18 years of Knicks fandom. Can't believe its been that long. Finally live on the East coast again, can't wait to go back to MSG. So psyched that we are looking at a great - or even improved and improving-season.

This isn't necessarily bad as he is also the most "dominant", and has the most potential when working with Bron.

And relative to the other contracts we could have handed out (JJ, Bosh, even Wade), it's not too bloated or risky. The exception would have been signing Lee to a value-contract, but that's another world..

It will hence be a glorious, franchise-changing contract if we sign The King.

It will be underwhelming, far from ideal, and risky if we don't.

But:

King comes. It's a historic moment and brilliant signing.

King doesn't come. We really haven't taken major steps back. We just signed a star to a slightly bloated contract with some risk. But you gotta give action to get, and imperfect solutions can still be the best.

We still signed a star, upgrade player. And have the cap to do more.

It's lebron or bust, though, IMO, if we are to be true contenders and make our suffering worth it.

But it is what it is. We have a legit shot at reaching dynasty status, and even if we fail it's not like we raped some amazing future to have that shot at glory. If anything, we upgraded a bit regardless



It's not a bad risk-reward move.
