Why no love for Gallo?

I haven't seen too many threads or anything about the expectations of Gallo this year.

I believe this kid is going to be an all-star and part of a big '3' for the Knicks very soon.

This year he will blow up, especially with someone like STAT on the team to take pressure off him.

He has the skills to be very good. He just needs to have the mindset like he had when he went up against Melo. The mindset of "no fear and I'm the best player on the court". Sometimes he is too passive. He has the skills to take over a game. If he wants, he can be great.

I think the locker room culture of the last 2 years was detrimental to Gallo's growth. The vets ran the nut house (one reason I'm not upset about Lee moving on b/c he wasn't a leader).

Guys were using the Knicks like we were using the vets. N8, Harrington, Duhon, House.... The list is endless, and none of these cats looked to get GALLO involved or help him grow on the court. They all looked to get theirs first!

GALLO also missed his rookie season with injury, so last year was just a case of him getting his feet wet.

Dirk averaged 8 points & 3 rebounds in his rookie campaign.

Now that the dust has settled. NOw that we have our leader (Amar'e), and we have the team we are moving fwd with. Now that we have an interior presence, and a true PG... Sky is the limit this year.

One thing we did se with Gallo, is that when he asserts himself he can be lethal. He isn't shy. I felt, out of respect, he differed too much last year. I imagine that's not the case anymore.

I FULLY EXPECT Gallo (and D'antoni) to show why Walsh believed in them. Time for them to earn their paycheck.

There is very little media coverage concerning, in most cases, a player's offseason regimen. We get a tid-bit here and there, for example, Walker lost 27 pounds, Lee was taking 500 treys a day, but no one appears to follow closely what players are doing to improve their play during the offseason.

Gallo, for all his virtues, had shortcomings with respect to strength and handle. To what extent has he addressed these shortcomings over the past few months? Apparently, he has spent the entire offseason in Milan. That is not promising. Would it not have been better if he had spent more time in New York with Greg Brittenham and with some team structured training? Hopefully he has done more than simply relax in Milan with family and friends content with what he was at the end of last season.

I would like to see another 20 pounds on him -- and the Dwight Howard pounds, not the Eddy Curry pounds. He also has to learn to beat people off the dribble when they crowd him at the three point line. he has to be able to put the ball on the floor and make them pay for pressing him.

With Duhon and Lee finished here Gallo will no longer be shut out of getting to touch the ball. Duhon and Lee would run a pick n roll using the high post screen, in order to do this they seemed to have made a pact that once it got into either of their hands that was the go to play. They made a point to not pass to Gallo, even when he was wide open for an easy 3. He was shunned on by those two who also happened to run most of the offense (point guard and the point forward). His productiong was highly limited. I think we will see one of two thigns out of gallo this year

He either hits the sophomore slump that gets a lot of rookies who have effective seasons as teams adjust to their play style.

Or with the new weapons around him he develops into a great player with more then 1 offensive weapon

Because, he is inconsistent and lacks a defensive presence. His heart doesn?t fit NY basketball. If he didn?t have personal ties to the coach he would have been gone a long time ago. This year I expect Gallo and the coach will be sent packing?

Wow great assessment Oldtimer. I did not know he went to Milan. I hope he is working out there. I don't think he's the type of guy that will put on the pounds in the weight room though.

I would like to see him work on his handle tho. He needs to be able to make space for himself off the dribble. As a SF he'll need to do more then camp the 3pt line and drain it.

It would also be nice if he worked on some of his post moves. I know he had some sweet finishes around the rim last year, but I would like to see him be able to get the ball in the low post and finish over those shorter SF's and PF's.

I really don';t think we've seen the "Real" Gallo yet and we could be in for a surprize, but this news of him being in Milan all offseason really doesn't bode well (unless he's working out with euro coaches on his handles/post moves)

3pt specialist? :teeth: that was a good one.

I'm serious.

What else, besides shoot 3s, can Gallinari do?

Gallo will make you respect him soon enough. Keep hating bro :)

Gallinari is a 6-10 small forward/power forward who's too slow to play small forward and too weak to play power forward.

He moves like a robot and has an awkward release, when he drives to the basket, which reduces his shot accuracy inside and makes it easier for his opponents to block his shots.

He shoots 42% from the field, despite being 6-10, and he sucks at rebounding(4.9 rebounds in 34 MPG) and sucks at shotblocking(.7 BPG at 34 MPG).

I know you was serious..

but what is confusing me is all the hype for this kid. But, most of that hype is coming from in here. Is people really watching this guy's game? Sometimes I wonder if people know anything about basketball when they are bigging this dude up. I mean really, where's the attraction?

first off, look at the old knick roster, he was a bright spot, besides david lee. we all know his story with his first seasons with the old knicks.
