NEW YORK (AP)?The New York Knicks have signed free-agent forward Shawne Williams(notes).
Terms of the deal weren?t disclosed Thursday.

The 6-foot-9 Williams has averaged 5.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 13.4 minutes in 126 games in three NBA seasons with Indiana and Dallas. He was drafted 17th overall in 2006 following his freshman season at Memphis.

this could mean the knicks are trying to get more players to trade for mello!

the knicksblog.com said that Williams was just invited to camp and not signed, if anything he will on the d league team for NY with a small contract.

The point is that he is fighting a spot against Ewing Jr. who is actually signed for one year, a fan favorite, and was even spotted haning out with the players at the NY Liberty game so I really don't see a random guy come in and take Ewing's spot.

i always liked williams, and was disappointed bcuz of the way his career went down. 6'9'' with a 7'3'' wingspan. Forget little patty, williams is a defensive minded shot blocking forward who can mature into a defensive specialist. Patty Jr. needs to go to the d. league. Area 51 can definitely help our squad if we trade chandler away.

Disappointing though right? I thought same when I saw on real GM but was like wait that's not spelled right, then saw previous teams Dallas and Indy... other guy definitely a headcase and couldn't even latch on in Israel, but definitely an athletic force that might have had a chance to make the roster. Problem with 51 though is I feel like if he's not a main part of the rotation on a team he'll be disastrous and just a bad distraction.
