I don't think there's a problem with criticizing players, just that some of the comments in this thread are pretty harsh, bordering on racist.

But you would save 7million a year to spend on a C

STAT played some solid D and did a good job on the defensive board. Credit where credit is due. Imo that should be his role in the playoffs. It all starts with defense and rebounding for your center. Adding offense is nice, but clearly the secondary objective.

Melo should lead our offense and STAT should lead our defense and represent our toughness. Perfect game from both superstars last night.

It's a lot less annoying to watch his turnovers when he's playing great on defense

Question is though: Why not every night Amar'e? The potential and ability are there.

Add in impact points like the fact Amare is leading all scorers in the 4th quarter. (was for most of the year if currently not)

Interesting thought though, if our lineup was:

Felton
Chandler
Gallo
Lee
Tyson Chandler

Do you think we would be as good/better than we are now? Would we make the playoffs?

Hell Yea plus we would still have more $$$ to spend on the Bench and add not trading away picks

for a knicks fan since '92,you have very little faith in your team.

As far as Lee goes I'm interested in how he'd do with Nash. Lee even made Duhon look good for a while.

I really liked David when he was here but some people on this board are drastically overrating him. He's a nice player but Amare is an elite player. It comes down to more than just numbers. Amare puts a lot more pressure on opposing defenses because he is:

A) infinitely more explosive than David Lee (has a much quicker first step)

B) a better mid-range jumpshooter than David Lee.

C) A better finisher around the rim than David Lee.

Oh yeah, and he's a better defensive player. There, I said it.

On the flip side? David Lee is a marginally beter rebounder than Amare . . .

The question was nevr who is better (for anyone sane).

But what else the $ could have been, and could be, spent on. And the 100M contract itself being given. Not that STAT isnt a max player, but it's more of a borderline 5yr max contract for him, than other max deal players.

I didnt like it, and I was one of the more critical posters against Amare... But I'm happy he is here, and I think ive been proved wrong.

Barring Amare never gets it and keeps allowing more penetration than a porn star, and we are never able to get a starting NBA center.

I think he n Melo co-exist nicely too. And will rampage together.

We simply need a more honed, complete surrounding cast now more than ever.

And be extra shrewd in how players will gel, vs just evaluating on pure talent.

No we would not be better because there would be no one to close out games for us. There isn't anyone in that lineup that can replace Melo and while Lee would provide rebounds and points, his production doesn't really impact the game.

Denver Also doesn't have a closer and they win Games they are 13-4 since trading "superstar" Carmelo Anthony. That would be a good team to build on and would need one or two bench players to be a solid 45 win team. If Gallo develops and Wilson develops we have a 50 win team.
