Melo to Meet With Dolan

Knicks owner James Dolan is expected to meet with Carmelo Anthony in L.A. during All-Star weekend -- Melo will also meet with Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov.
The meetings are expected to happen Friday or Saturday, and should kick off some heated negotiations as the two teams bear down on Carmelo in advance of Thursday's deadline. Dolan has been in direct contact with the Nuggets' owner, Stan Kroenke, and could potentially overrule the objections of Mike D'Antoni, who has been leery of blowing up the roster to acquire Melo. Lol, people keep saying "blow up the roster" and I keep asking "how are we supposed to have Amar'e, Melo, Gallo, Felton, and 2012 signee on the same team?" The current CBA doesn't allow it to be possible and in all likelyhood, the next one won't either.

At the end of the day (summer of 2012) Chandler, Felton, and Gallo won't be Knicks if we're looking to land one of the three big names of CP3, D-Will, and Howard. So...it's either lose them now and make sure you get Melo and set up the future...or try to get Melo while keeping them...only to have to watch them walk later? And risk not even getting a piece of what's supposed to be our core moving forward? Unless we can foresee a team in the future having enough cap space to eat those contracts (both would need an extend-and-trade) and give up draft picks, so nothing goes on our books and we can then go after our next core piece...I'm really not seeing what the big deal is.

It's either trade them now and work on preserving cap space, or let Felton walk and don't offer Gallo his qualifying offer and let him walk as a restricted free agent after next season.
