No other NBA star, in my experience as a fan, has solidified their emergence to stardom in similar fashion to Chauncey Billups.

From a non-well known starter to Finals MVP, Billups showed his mettle under duress in being the pivotal player on Detroit's championship team in 2004, in a 4 games to 1 ?ber upset against the dynasty Laker team that boasted a line up inclusive of Gary Payton, Karl Malone, SHAQ and The Black Mamba.

And to culminate his ascension, Billups stunned the basketball world by becoming finals MVP in a non All Star appearance season.

An amazing testament to the fortitude of Billups as an individual and a team player, when faced with the daunting task of winning as the underdog.

Now, 7 years on, he waves our banner as the pressure mounts.

Unquestionably, he is the pivotal factor in achieving, yet again, an upset that would, yet again, stun the basketball world.

This could well be a PG showdown that Rondo wasn't ready for. It could, just as easily or likely, not be. It's a bit baffling to me because their games are so incredibly different.

Chauncey has the clear size, weight and strength advantage. Rondo the speed and athleticism. What distracts from Rondo's youth V age factor is that he is still playing with niggling injuries.

So what do we make of it?

Chauncey has declined in some ways - Rondo has failed to improve in others: shooting in all facets. Both play excellent team defence - Rondo the better one on one.

In order for Chauncey's offence to be implicated, we'll have to slow down and give him more of an opportunity to overpower Rondo. We can't afford to be stagnant against Boston, because if we play their game, we lose. That has often and ever been the case with them. We surpass them in athleticism courtesy of a younger squad, but not at the 1.

We must be physical with Rondo.

Damn. I need help here ko.com!

#23 - Toney Douglas

He's been praised and battered all year for his imbalanced consistency. A defensive leaning post for NY in the back court, Toney Douglas' wont for shutting down his counterpart has come under the microscope, as he takes on the underdog role individually by being delegated the task of stopping Rondo and Allen.

No one has made more 3s than Toney Douglas since the All Star Game. Seeing that we live and die by the 3, we'll need his cross hairs clean. He is an imperative part of our success. His intangibles, range and gritty defence all huge factors in achieving victory.

He is confident and determined, focused and fearless. He has at times been unconscious from deep, but he has also been stone cold.

How will #23 fare in his first playoff series? However so, we need his best, as both he and Shawne Williams become our most pivotal role players and X Factors.

Though he'll rarely be facing Celtic flop, Carlos Arroyo, Douglas will veritably pick him apart. He'll be more likely to face Ray Allen on defence, as D'Antoni prefers to play him alongside either Billups or Carter in a small back court.

Ray Allen has been taken out of games by the Bulls and Heat in the last month. In both outings, Boston have fallen apart offensively as Allen's range became a non factor on the scoreboard and in providing spacing offensively. Toney can not afford to go under screens as he often does against Ray Allen. His release is quick and high and will be difficult for Douglas to contest in a height disadvantage.

After this unforgettable moment, Knick fans around the world raised a collective eyebrow.

Undeniably, Anthony Carter's mental grit and self belief are forged by a life of less. I, for one, am enthralled by the idea of him bringing his life lessons to the court.

AC can create some problems for Rondo. His hounding defence and undeniable grit & determination can help wear Rondo down. The combination of Billups size and strength advantage and AC's terrier like D will be a real detractor for Rondo.

We look pretty good at the 1, 3 and 4 spot.

SG and especially C is where we're lacking.

Arguably there is NO center on our roster atm.

STAT is a PF, so is Shelden Williams and Jeffries too, despite his size.

At SG we have an unexperienced rookie who's struggling atm, a 3pt specialist who's defense is questionable in Walker and a veteran who struggled to get minutes all season.

A healthy Azubuike and Timofey Mozgov could have done wonders for us.

This year we might have to settle for a first round defeat (although my hopes are high and I believe in this team until we're either eliminated or in the Conf. Finals).

Next year might be good though. All we need to do is add a capable center like Jordan or McGee and another useful shooting guard with a nice overall game, like Courtney Lee or Mikael Pietrus.

Outstanding thread as always Crazy.

Your only as strong as your weakest link & I cant think of a team that features a 3rd string PG as tough Carter. From dropping out of HS in the 9th, to playing inside the mean streets of ATL for money with dealers off the corner putting up the Luciano, all 7 of his uncles were in prison at one point, mom strung out? Man; AC has made it from the bottom of poverty into the NBA after making a complete life changing 360 for the better. Defensive heart, intensity & mental toughness. Still plays with that street mentality.

I cant say enough about Billups. Rondo? MVP Rose? Bring em on. He's a true playoff warrior. Real veteran & team leader. Boat load of playoff experience with a Finals MVP under his star status. Doesn't come more elite than that. We have a CHAMPION running the point with two of the NBA's top 5 scoring machines? It's a wrap. Also runs & controls a very productive half court which is needed to win come playoff time.

Toney "TD23" Douglas? Two words... X-Factor.

Great thread 8's!

Our problem is that we may have the absolute worst 2 and 5 starting holes in every single matchup.

It's tough for your core to become a team...when you don't even truly have a legit real (complete) one to begin with.

Ppl looked at MIA's big 3...after a full off season together....and said they would he mired in playoff problems because of *depth* and their bigs and newness together:

We not only have a lesser 3 (maybe not by a lot, but it's true), and less playing time together....but even the incomplete Miami Amigos have a more complete, robust roster than us...at the 2 and 5, as well.

I agree that our X-Factor is Douglas..but to me, our true x-factor is the entire crew of Douglas/Walker/Williams.

Bench players, inconsistent, untested, but all guys who can light it up lie starters...not many teams have a bench like that.

Going forward, I truly want Fields' becoming our 6th, getting a true SG, and bringing in any one of the 2011 Bigs. This playoff should have huge ramifications on what Walsh does...

Really, it's all about Billups and Douglas performances. Who we draft, who we sign...who we can sign...Who we target for next season trades...All predicated on how we handle this offseason, hinged upon this playoff run.

And I agree entirely. With all of it.

I kicked off the PF match up thread, and actually have Shawne Williams as our X Factor/dark-horse. But Douglas will be absolutely essential. I went with Williams, though, because of his rebounding and interior D. Just that touch more important, IMO. Also because he brings what TD23 does: range via spacing.

He's little Jack Horner sat in the corner.

Perhaps he'll redeem himself from this?

Crazy... You should wait 1 game per to kick off the playoffs because we have 6 games left.

PG= Toronto
SG= after Philly
SF= after NJ
PF= after INDY
C = after CHI

Overall 1st round playoff matchup = Right after BOS game heading into the playoffs!

Just an idea.

If we draw Miami, we are better at the 1. If we draw Boston, we are not.

versus Miami the plan should be to make it a 3-on-3 game. Turning Miami into Wade-James-Bosh v. Billups-Anthony-STAT will give us a good chance to win.

If we did that we'd have problems since MIA has a better and more balanced bench. The 3 on 3 game you speak of may cancel each other out and that makes bench play even more important.

:beer: word.

I agree --- Williams most vital, for those exact reasons you mentioned. If he can space the floor knocking down 3s now n then at a .400 clip, play that interior D, and provide hustle rebounding in the process...its a game changer. Even 10-15min/game of that is gamechanging.

kblack..while it's true we technically have the better 1 vs Miami....Miami has a "3" averaging 7+assists and who can go 10+ on any given night. While still pounding the shit outta the rock and scoring, and rebounding numbers that honestly may exceed our 4 and 5 bigs...

I want Boston, personally. 1st round at least.

I don't like the thought of facing a team in the 1st where no matter how good we play...we could still get steamrolled. Especially since they are fine tuning a now healthy Miller and getting better production outta their bargain deal vet bigs.

Make no mistake, i want MIA too, as scalping them would be the ultimate...but I want BOS first, and give us the best chance to win a series, build up the excitement and stakes, and give us the momentum and time to gel that I think we need to truly have a shot at slaying MIA this yr.

Currently getting less than 1mill per year,still young, and he'll be cheap.

I like what Clyde says about Walker because it's true.. he can be a really good NBA player if he just mixes it up more and brings it every night.. The potential is there. Shoots the 3 ball at a good percentage and put it on the floor and finish strong when he wants to. He also can play defense when he wants to most recently demonstrated in Miami.

What I love about Carter is he is full of confidence.

You watch him run that break he knows Wade is fast enough to catch up and that he has a height disadvantage etc, he doesn't care he just takes it up strong and finishes.

He also did a similar thing vs Orlando just driving straight into D12 and putting up the shot no regard for supermans blocking ability just take it strong little fella!

I know everyone loves TD but I think it's going to take a full offseason with Billups and this playoff experience to get him playing good ball on a consistent basis.

Sadly TD brings back too many memories of 2008-10 Knicks Nate, Hughes, Harrington, Richardson, Gallo etc who would make you think they are a 25ppg scorer one night and then can't hit a barn door the next.

I can't wait to see TD next year but in the playoffs I have reservations. With TD and Fields it's really gonna be a sink or swim situation from game 1 and I just pray they will swim.

At least we know with TD if his shot isn't falling THAT'S OK! Because he will be causing havoc on defense. Unless Fields gives us 10rpg along with his 0ppg then he's gonna be pretty useless.

At this stage of the season it's time to bench Fields, bring Bill Walker in as the starting SG and let Fields show his hunger to reclaim that starting spot.

I have a feeling Billups is going to go off in these playoffs. He's already had to answer criticism, step up on the big stage in NY and shake off an injury straight after the trade.

Honestly I wanna see Billups, Stat and Melo go into these playoffs with a major chip on their shoulder.

Chauncey playing really well against Rose tonight at home.

If Rondo's watching, he knows he can't handle Billups' strength.

The one blaring difference (with the exception of Gallo) between Douglas and this list is that he can lock down defensively on his man and seep their confidence on the other end.

He'll have to do that against Allen on occasion, which won't be easy, but he'll make his presence felt against Boston's offence.

They're a sub par offensive team if you can hinder their back court.

Nice Thread for a regular-season game

The Postseason Games.....is Team-Ball
The best "Team-Ballers" win NBA titles
Teams are eliminated in the first-round using "individual-B.Ball"

Boston is a half-court and transition-spurts team....they use
3-players as their playmaker in Rondo/Ray/Pierce....this trio
of playmakers have their system down to a science on a switch

Miami is a quick-transition team with 3-players as their playmaker
in Bibby/D.Wade/Lebron.....this trio runs fast-break spurts in
each quarter.

The postseason games consist of......
frontcourt (Bigmen) tandems/trio and
backcourt (Guards) tandems/trio
EXAMPLE: Fisher/Kobe/Odom "and" Bigmen- Artest/Gasol/Bynum
