Pelicans have extended qualifying offers to both Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart, making both unrestricted free agents according to Andrew Lopez of ESPN.

The qualifying offer for Lonzo Ball is expected to be $14,359,936 while Hart's is expected to be $5,236,739. A team can pull their qualifying offer up until August 13 without the approval of the player. So should the Pelicans decide that either is too expensive for them, Ball or Hart could be relocating.

Plan A has to involve Dame or Beal?. CP3 or Kawhi.

Plan B could be some combo of signings and trades involving 2-4 of this mix: Sexton, Ball, Trent Jr, Ross, Oubre, Powell.

The Knicks are mentioned by league sources as a team that has expressed interest in Fournier, while New York has also been linked to Lakers guards Dennis Schroder and Talen Horton-Tucker.

Knicks president Leon Rose should probably explain Thursday?s draft night wheeling and dealing on a media Zoom call, but he?s on a streak of 12 straight months without talking to the press.

Nobody has given the exact reason for his reticence, but it?s likely the agent turned Knicks godfather feels he has spoken with the 41-31 record this past season that brought an end to the franchise?s seven-year playoff drought.

According to an NBA executive who has spoken to Rose, the Knicks? most baffling draft-night trade ? moving the 19th pick for a heavily protected future first-rounder from Charlotte ? was done partly to save $2.4 million in cap space for free agency. They never were going to use both of their first-rounders, for cap reasons.

Whether the Charlotte pick is a good trade chip with all its protections ? up to 18 next year, 16 in 2023 and 14 in 2024 ? depends on whether the stumbling Hornets turn their fortunes around.

But the Knicks do everything with calculated precision ? and chief strategist Brock Aller is behind most of it. The Knicks ultimately drafted two players, hard-nosed shooting guard Quentin Grimes (25th) and hard-nosed point guard Miles McBride (36th), who Rose and coach Tom Thibodeau believe were worthy of the team?s original 19th and 21st selections in the first round.

?They got who they wanted when they wanted,?? one NBA executive in contact with Knicks brass said.

And now the Knicks have cap space ? plenty of it. Only four teams will go into free agency beginning Monday night with significant cap space, and the Knicks will lead that brigade with $50 million-plus ? if and when they need to remove Frank Ntilikina?s cap hold.

The Knicks FO have to do something quick like the Lakers FO did at the start of draft night .. Get your starter PG for the 2021-22 season at the start of the 2021 draft .. HOF Westbrook !!!
On July 1st, there's one of the decent performing FA PG Dinwiddle looking for a starters job n pay, that has the talent to get the Knicks over the hump next-season.
The Knicks FO should be pulling out the red carpet to sign FA Dinwiddle asap.

Lonzo Ball and Hart's playmaking & scoring talent throughout the 2020-21 season was not good enough to keep the ball out of Zion & Ingram hands on the offensive-end.
It's bad when a team has a decent veteran center (Steven Adams) whom average a double-double stat on 60% shooting the past 5 seasons, and one season as a Pelicans he's given only 4 to 5 shots per game to have a 31-41 season.

The Knicks have exercised their $1.8M team option on Mitchell Robinson and waived Norvel Pelle.
This was just a formality for the Knicks with this being the final year of his 4-year contract he signed as a second rounder. Robinson will be eligible for a 4-year, $51M extension this summer, but if an agreement is not reached then the big man will hit unrestricted free agency next summer.

I do like Dimwiddle, but it also depends on the cost. Some risk with him returning from a significant injury.

Dimwiddle, Sexton or Ball? Anybody have a preference?

With all said and done... of all the players mention who can make the Knicks championship contender?? Ball, Dinwiddle, Sexton amd Hart?? We aren't gettingDamian Lillard or Beal?. CP3 or Kawhi. Out of those four only two stays relatively healthy. Why would you want an old CP3? Or A often injury Kawhi?
Looking at the Knicks didn't the Hawks series show us something very important that adding players can't fix. We are the same team of two years ago. The offensive reverted back either by design or habit to it old self. Does Thib's have the know how to change the offensive and make it 'Well-Rounded'?? Who can you bring in that environment? Playing 40 minutes a game by both Randle and RJ is good for the team? Is this 'Well-Rounded'?

The front office can spin that disaster of a draft anyway they want but in the end all you got was 2 players who can't help you this year. Let's hope I'm wrong but does Rose and Perry know what they are doing. This was a most talented draft in two years and they didn't tank(but tank in the prior two years). With two 1st round picks nobody let them in the lottery picks. So again how smart is Rose and Perry?

Looks like Paul, Lowry, and Ball are off the table. None given NY even a conversation?

NYP - Marc Berman

With the Suns likely to make Chris Paul a three-year, $90-plus million offer that will keep him in Phoenix, the Knicks may be in line to snare his backup ? young lefty free agent Cam Payne.

The Knicks have considered a no-frills point-guard scenario with Payne and Derrick Rose splitting minutes in 2021-22.

It?s not Plan A, B or perhaps even C, but it?s not bad, either, especially if the Knicks can?t land a star like Paul, Kyle Lowry and Lonzo Ball.

Miami is emerging as a favorite to land Lowry in a sign-and-trade while Ball is ready to sign with the Bulls with free agency beginning Monday evening, according to a source.

??-

Payne tells me free agents still won?t consider NYK and we gonna wait for Dame to be made available.

Would Sexton be the smarter play? Surprising Ball didn?t even sniff NY, unless we let his team know we weren?t interested

Yeah, I didn?t really get that invested leading up to free agency this year. We didn?t seem realistically in play for anyone of consequence and this seems like an extremely weak year for free agency.

I imagine the front office is trying to figure out a trade but this front office is very conservative. This may be a season where we bring back the same team and look to do something mid season.

Are these DeRozan to Knicks rumors for real? It seems like the kind of thing where there?s smoke and ends up being no fire.

Being reported Noel returns on 3/32 million deal and Alec Burks stays for 3/30. We have about 30 left to play with.

Ball to CHI

Dallas gives Hardaway 4/72.

Burks was huge in the 4th quarter in so many close games. Noel played like an elite defender off the bench for us.

Noel is 27. Burks is 30. Keeping these guys at around a combined 20 million a year for next 3 years is a sensible move.

Knicks still with 31 million in cap space after Burks and Noel deals. Gives them ability to bring back Rose and Bullock or pursue someone like Fournier or Dinwiddie.
