Good article over on the Atlantic about Knits, Knicks and PG position:
?Fizdale sees a comparison to Shaun Livingston, who was drafted as a dynamic point guard prospective but has evolved into a tweener-type over 14 years in the NBA, his career changed by a traumatic knee injury. Livingston is an efficient mid-range shooter and dangerous when posting up.
?I?m hoping that?s the kind of morph I can get out of him,? Fizdale said. ?Where he can post smaller guys, hopefully he can have more range than Shaun even though Shaun can make a three, but Shaun knows where his bread is buttered. That pull-up jumper and that post-up over the top of small guys, he?s made a living with that. He also guards everybody on the floor, he can get them in the offense. That?s where I do, I see Frank in that kind of mold, as a multi-talented, multi-faceted guy.?
If the developmental plan works out, the Knicks could have a high-level modern guard on their roster, one who can guard multiple positions and run an offense. If it doesn?t, they may have frittered away a chance to draft and develop a point guard who can also guard at an elite level ? which Ntilikina has shown signs of doing already ? and give them size and wingspan at a crucial position.
But if there is a fixation on position, it?s not coming from Ntilikina. He doesn?t care where he plays.
?In this offense,? he says, ?not really.?
