A disgustingly good move.
More and more inclined we *can not* attempt to mimic the Miami patented triumverate.
The deck is already, maybe terminally, stacked against us:
i) MIA never gutted their roster for any of their three (yes, they had to shed salary, but it's simply not comparable to what we did with Melo)
ii) MIA's superstars took it upon themselves to take paycuts. Let's repeat that -- in a time and in a plan where salary cap is paramount, MIA's superstars took paycuts. Already, we have two of a (potential) three who have not.
(an argument could be made that this should already rest the case in us attempting a big three. the only reason I wouldn't call it case closed yet, is because of how ethereal CP3 is, and that he's the ultimate guy to have in a big 3 situation)
iii) In a plan where salary cap is so limiting, and filling out a complete roster is so difficult, MIA inherently has greater flexibility given the fact that Lebron can essentially play a pure 1 if needed, a point forward, or a brutally effective flex 3/4.
iv) MIA has a head start, and with a superior foundation in their plan is making the constant improvements that are fixed by the limitations of a big 3; the same limitations we will have have, except profoundly more limiting because of our inherently worse salary cap position, and that we simply got a later start: you can only take advantage of certain NBA cap rules and manipulations at set times in the season/off season.
Lebron
Wade
Bosh
Miller
Battier
Haslem
Yes, we will be better this year with time to gel; MIA will also be profoundly better after a full season, the off season, and new pieces (plus being healthy, people seem to conveniently set aside what went down with Miller and Haslem last year, their crown jewels of support for their Big 3).
We may be at a point gentlemen where it is time to accept certain realties:
Let's get a starting ****ing center in this city
Let's do whatever it takes, bring in whomever it takes, to get Amare to stop being penetrated like a pornstar on defense. If Amare needs to be dressed down and embarassed, so be it -- his defense is embarassing, and he should feel embarassed for it. If he is not, there is a major problem already.
Pre-Melo, clearly, it was very difficult for any player to make Amare step it up, and put him in true check. The right player(s) and roster can do 10000x more than any coach in fixing defensive issues with an otherwise supremely talented player.
