Great news. This just means that STAT is ready to put his ego aside and focus on winning.
But in terms of the teams' rotation, I don't expect STAT's bench role to make much of a difference in terms of the team gelling together. This move is all about improving the team's offensive continuity and flow by limiting the time that STAT and Melo are together on the court. However, I expect STAT to average 32-35 mpg once he's fully recovered, and Melo will also get his 32-35 mpg which means that there'll be only 13-15 mins of game time where they are not playing together. This is the case unless Woody decides to lower the minutes of either STAT or Melo, which is very unlikely. In short, I just don't see the logic to the idea of Amar'e in a bench role for the Knicks. Can someone explain to me why this would be a good move??
Also, does this mean Melo will be the permanent starting PF?
I said in the Pau & Amare trade thread that if Amare is willing to come off the bench i wouldn't mind keeping him
If Amare were to come off the bench that would be huge for us and a nightmare for any coach in the league.
2010 Amare was at his best when he played center and we spaced the floor with shooters... it makes perfect sense bringing him off the bench with Novak, JR, and Wallace
Would Woodson actually make that move in bringing Amare off the bench... TBD
I somewhat agree with this apart from I just think having STAT at C and Novak on the floor at the same time is just going to leave us ridiculously exposed on D.
I don't see what the problem is with STAT a PF and Camby at C. Camby can nail the mid range jumper leaving STAT to be the primary PnR man. WHY THE HELL ISN'T CAMBY PLAYING!?
Keeping Melo as starting PF maintains this effective lineup against 90% of the teams we face in tact. The bench will then have 2 primary scorers in JR and Amare. The hope is that our bench will be just as effective as the starters... no drop off!
Obviously, Melo and Amare will play together but maybe its with Sheed at 4 and amare at the 5 playing center and benefitting from pick and rolls. Either way, I can't wait to see what this team does at full strength.
True Stat and Novak on the floor together might not look pretty... it all comes down to how motivated Stat is defensively.I somewhat agree with this apart from I just think having STAT at C and Novak on the floor at the same time is just going to leave us ridiculously exposed on D.
My take: He needs to fit the starting line up if we want to win a championship. We need to end games with our top players.
Having said that, I think he would fit just fine with either Melo or Chandler (not both at the same time, for now) and a PNR virtuoso like Prigioni (and maybe both Felton and Kidd if they develop chemistry) and always have a shooter either at the 2 or the 3.
Stoudemire should start and play 5 minute intervals to maintain his health and floor balance with Carmelo. Meaning they only share the floor the 1st 5 minutes of the half and the last 4-6 minutes of the half.
People think putting STAT on the bench will help them mesh when in all actuality they have to learn how to play off of each other since in the playoffs we will be in close games and they will have to co-exist. Putting a bonafide All-Star on the bench isn't how you win titles.
