I agree with this to a small degree. But Brewer doesn't really profile as an 'X' factor. Out of all the offseason moves, he has the least amount of question marks, you know your going to get the pesky defense and high motor.
The X factor always has that potential to be all or nothing. I chose Felton, but him and JR profile perfectly for the X factor role. Such high talent at times and other instances leaving you scratching your head. If Felton can pick up some chemistry with Melo that he has with the rest of our front court and keep our offensive flow he will send this team to an ECF battle.
I too, wouldve selected JR.Smith or Felton as an X-factor for reason of being known as inconsistent questionable players .. having HOF Jason Kidd to run our guard-rotation for coach Woody, I see Felton performing more as a combo-guard in the rotation (replacing Shumpert), especially when Kidd gets PG-Prig-Pablo up to speed with the team.
JR.Smith career has always been a 20 minute player off the bench.
The Knicks X-Factor the past two seasons were SG-Landry Fields performance as a starter/finisher .. Fields played extremely well for a rookie and 2nd season player without Carmelo Anthony in his lineup.
The 2012-13 season will depend a lot on Brewer's performance as a starter/finisher to co-exist with Carmelo Anthony in a lineup.
Making Brewer's type of SG skills the X-Factor .. being a different type of SG talent from what Carmelo Anthony had in his 9 year career in the NBA.
Brewers SG style could be compared to SG-Bell or SG-Kittles (Amare/Kidd ex-teammates) .. all-defense with quick running layups, or 15 foot jumper SG.
