David Fizdale to be Knicks Next Head Coach

Fizdale seems interested in potentially getting Noah back on the court as a Knick. Maybe that will make Kiya soften on Fizdale a bit.

This should be a high priority for Fizdale esp if Kanter and Quinn opt out. Let's see if Fiz can breathe some life back into his career.

I disagree to the extent there will be some cap space and we can go after one of the bigs hitting the market this summer. Noah is done folks. I know there is contractual want out of him and maybe some sentimentalism involved but he's not someone we can rely on every night going forward. If anything make a push for someone like Julius Randle. Make the Lakers sweat bullets

While stating that his coaching style will emphasize position-less basketball, David Fizdale said Tuesday that he plans to play Frank Ntilikina, Emmanuel Mudiay and Trey Burke together in the backcourt. That doesn't include three other guards under contract ? Tim Hardaway Jr., Courtney Lee and Ron Baker.
In other words, there's a logjam.
"Roll them out there. Put them out there together," Fizdale said. "It's about speed, skill, aggressiveness, attack, playmaking. All of these guards have that ability. So I see a lot of versatility in there. I see a lot of combinations with them on the floor together. Obviously we're going to develop the heck out of them. And I'm going to keep my foot up their butt about defending."

Position-less basketball works for base system style of play and development, but it's not a real recipe to winning big. Even within such a system you still have certain players assigned to play specific roles(duties) otherwise there's no such thing as a ROLE PLAYER. I like the fact he's intent on finding a way to utilize the talent and that he understands the strength(value) of(in) our team, is it's youth

At the start of next season having Noah & Knits in the rotation will give Fizdale a defensive-edge at winning games.
Fizdale talking Knicks defense, are the same words we heard from Knicks ex-coaches Horn, Fisher, and Woodson.
A new head coach talking a good coaching game during the off-season is all well .. we will get a chance to see how well Fizdale do coaching the young players in the summer league.

Fizdale had plenty to say at his introductory presser today(moments ago) but this stands out to me

He also said he wants #kporzee to not be limited in how he uses him. Wants to experiment playing him at the 4 and 5 alternatively. Welp #kporzee time for you to toughen up and be a Big Boy

Convincing introduction by the Knicks new head coach .. it would be nice to see a hands on coach putting things together throughout the offseason.

Coach David Fizdale compared Lance Thomas to Draymond Green.
Sure. "He's a Swiss Army knife-type of player that can guard multiple positions and you can run offense through him," Fizdale said. "I think he can push the ball off the break a lot like Draymond Green plays. Obviously the thing I'm going to demand from Lance is to play defense like Draymond. And be a guy that's pushing to be a First Team All-Defender." If Fizdale can turn Thomas into half of what Dray can do, just give him 2019 Coach of the Year right now.

Well, we know now that Fizdale hasn't watched any Knicks games in the past 3 season ..
Lance Thomas hasn't showed 5 % of Draymond Greens all-around 2-Way performance in his career in the NBA.
Lance Thomas are a defensive player u use only in practice sessions !!!

Shaq, though, is certain the Knicks will strategize their future around the Latvian forward.

"Kid by the name of [Kristaps] Porzingis," Shaq said when asked how the Knicks make it back to the playoffs.

As for advice Shaq would give a fellow big man, he noted to "accept the challenge" of bringing the Knicks back to where they once were in the past.

Oh, and try not to get hurt again.

"Don't get hurt, step your game up, and accept the challenge," he said. "It's a beautiful city, everybody wants to win. You have the potential to make it happen. I know management is going to do some stuff to get guys around him, but he's the man now."

NY Post says the new coach is not changing the Knicks minds about moving on from Noah and will utilize the NBA stretch provision on him come Sept. 1, Bobby Marks the ESPN cap specialist thinks stretching him is a bad idea, to tie up money over a longer period hasnt worked for teams. I think whether Kanter and Quinn opt out will affect the decision, both stay Noah is gone, both go and the Knicks are goihg to have to acquire a big man so why not keep him if he has anything left in the tank.

Even in a scenario where our bigs leave we don't need him. He ain't playing 82gms for us most certainly and I doubt he gets to 62. That's what free agency, draft, G-League is for. We're not going to be good next yr who cares. The offseason will produce temporary cheaper and possibly better mediocre to washed up replacements such as...

Brook Lopez, Channing Frye, Illyasova, Zach Randolph, Tolliver, Ed Davis, Greg Monroe, Baynes. Seriously why be worried about Noah at all!

I sent some tweets to Begley about this on Twitter yesterday(he feels the same as Marks and cap experts) and came to this conclusion during the season this was the best course of action with Noah. Listen if we are truly moving on from the ills of a Dolan controlled era where we feel it's more important to win battles with players/teams vis-a-vis media-analyst/fan-public perception, then we really haven't grown and changed as an organization. A move like this suggest we might be turning a corner. Why have a player tying up a roster spot, who no longer fits at all(who at one point was one of the most highly respected professionals in the league) waste away for 2yrs because you're trying to show everyone who's boss? What positive look would this give those(players-agents) on the outside looking at our organization?

As far as tying up money, look this is blown way out of proportion. We owe Noah approximately $38mil(assuming his contract is fully guaranteed on both yrs) we get 5yrs on a stretch. 5/38 is essentially $7.5mil/yr(this is his cap hit for each season). Who really cares about the extra money come 2021, 22, 23...does anyone honestly think $7.5mil will prohibit us from restructuring this roster?

Let's look at it this way, had #kporzee been healthy this yr and every player exercised their option with little to no cap room would it be doom and gloom fans thinking we'd sign nobody next couple seasons? I doubt it, everyone would have a top list of players we'd like to see our organization pursue even when in such situation. Cap Room Exceptions, Trades, etc etc

So with that being said think of having $12mil of extra cap space over the next 2 seasons(you know the season of the Kawhi/Kyrie/Klay/Butler/Kemba/Middleton/Rozier/Turner sweepstakes) ~ 2019/20 would do....as a result of stretching Noah.

I'm not saying we have any realistic shot to get those players but we could make our situation better for a possibility, by doing the above. Gotta see the forest through the trees

I'm ecstatic to think this organization is developing a type mindset...

Otoh what I'm mortified at is Fizdale saying Lance Thomas is going to be the Draymond Green of our team and he's sees similar skillset and he'll look to run much of the offense through him.

This sounds cringe worthy beyond

Yep i knew it .. Noah got on the wrong side of Dolan, probably never attended any of Dolan's silly function the past two years. Now Dolan want Noah gone at any price. Dolan has Mills /Perry working on ways to get rid of Noah.

"Joakim Noah, who has been away from the Knicks since February following a run-in with Jeff Hornacek, reached out to David Fizdale to congratulate him after the hire. Fizdale intimated that he's open to Noah, who has two years and $37.8 million remaining on his contract, coming back to the team. Knicks GM Scott Perry said all options remain on the table for Noah. The Knicks could continue to try to trade the veteran or waive him via the stretch provision."

The new Knicks head coach David Fizdale are clueless of the Knicks mismanagement organization, and that may be the main reason Fizdale were hired. There's a reason why Dolan dont let the front office hire ex-teammates or ex-coaches ???

7 mil a year might mean something come 2020 and 2021. There?s a reason teams don?t use this provision much...

We are going to be rotten next year.... ergo, who cares about Noah?s salary on the books. The year after that, Noah is an expiring asset we could use to trade for something... a ?bad? contract another team wants to dump... or for a player we want but we need to match salaries.

The only way I stretch him is if I feel I need every cent I can find for next summer. In that case, shaving off ten mil or whatever might be worth stretching contact out for 3 more years.

Nick Van Exel is expected to join Knicks head coach David Fizdale's staff as an assistant, reports Stefan Bondy of the NY Daily News.

Van Exel, 46, served under Fizdale as an assistant with the Memphis Grizzlies and remained on the staff after Fizdale was fired this season. The former NBA All-Star has been coaching since 2009.

Naaaaahhh this ain't mid 2000s anymore. The cap has exploded exponentially thus $7mil doesn't hurt like it used to. Not to mention the mega stars are locked up or will be locked in coming yrs and others are no longer, will be out of the league. So player movement won't be what it used to.

The strength of teams will be growth from within. Wait maybe you may have a point Mafra, Mills and Perry will want to extend THJR and bump his salary from $18mil in 2021 to $25mil/yr for 4 more yrs

I said the Knicks brass would be sharpening their pencils to weigh the chance of acquiring a free agent with the cap space created by stretching Noah. This report says the Knicks want to be active in free agency and not wait until 2020. Kanter and Quinn opting out will affect the cap space as well and may make stretching him less critical and allow him to remain a Knick. I'm not real hopeful that he's got anything left in his tank but if Kanter and Quinn both leave I'd give Noah a shot to prove it under a new coach.

To me Noah's high IQ and team leadership performance are still much better than both Kanter & Quinn put together.
Noah not wanting to participate in Phil/Horn circus show of tanking two season in a row does not make me urgent to get rid of Noah. In Chicago Noah & Gasol switch position in the lineup so well if they didnt have a shoot first PG Rose they would've made noise in the postseason.
If the Knicks front office and coach had any intention on winning last season they would have treated Noah like they treated Melo & KP.
The Knicks front office and coach did not want a veteran winning player Noah around the locker-room and players last season.
The Knicks front-office n coach booted Noah far away from the Knicks team in mid January so the Knicks could go on a few long losing streaks the rest of the season to catch up with the other lottery teams. Fact not conspiracy theory !!!
