Game Preview

Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks saw an 18-game winning streak stopped Monday when they lost to the Dallas Mavericks.

Three nights later, Antetokounmpo and the Bucks shined on a national stage against the Los Angeles Lakers by doing enough to overcome big nights by LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

After beating the best team in the Western Conference, the Bucks face one of the worst teams in the league Saturday night when they visit the New York Knicks, who are playing their eighth game under interim coach Mike Miller.

The Bucks head to New York with 25 wins in their first 29 games, matching the 1971-72 and 1973-74 teams for the best start in team history.

Milwaukee rebounded from their 120-116 loss to the Mavericks by leading most of the way in a 111-104 win over the Lakers on Thursday. Antetokounmpo totaled 34 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists while making 11 of 19 shots and hitting a career-high five 3-pointers.

Antetokounmpo's latest big night was his 25th double-double and 17th game with at least 30 points, and it occurred after he scored 48 points on Monday.

"Our focus is to take it step by step, game by game, get better, improve as a team," Antetokounmpo said. "Our goal was to not lose two in a row, and that's what we did. It wasn't who we were playing, playing the Lakers, playing the Clippers, it doesn't really matter. We just look at ourselves. How can we improve?"

Antetokounmpo's dominance has helped the Bucks win nine of the last 10 meetings with the Knicks. The one loss was a 138-136 overtime defeat in New York on Dec. 1, 2018, when the Bucks blew a 16-point lead.

In Milwaukee's 132-88 home win on Dec. 2, former New York coach David Fizdale's penultimate game, Antetokounmpo totaled 29 and 15 rebounds. He has a double-double in his past six games against the Knicks, and the Bucks are 15-3 with him in the starting lineup against New York since 2013-14.

New York is 3-4 since Miller replaced the fired Fizdale on Dec. 6 and has been competitive in most games since the coaching change.

Friday was not one of those competitive nights, as the Knicks followed up an impressive 143-120 home win over the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday with a dud in Miami, losing 129-114 to the Heat.

The Knicks are hoping to avoid another rough night after never leading and trailing by as many as 34 on Friday night when they allowed Miami to shoot 55.8 percent. It matched the first meeting with Milwaukee for New York's second-highest field-goal percentage allowed this season, only behind the 56.3 percent the Knicks allowed to Denver on Dec. 5 in Fizdale's final game.

Bobby Portis led the Knicks with 30 points on 12-of-17 shooting and immediately turned his focus toward Milwaukee, especially with a 44-point loss still fresh in his mind.

"It's kind of hard not to remember it." Portis, said of the previous meeting with Milwaukee "They whipped our tails that night. We let that hurt till midnight, and we got over it. I feel like we're a new team now. We're balanced. Everybody knows their role."

Regardless of roles, the Knicks are hoping rookie RJ Barrett resembles the player from Tuesday and not the one from Friday. Barrett scored a career-high 27 points against Atlanta but was held to two points on 1-of-10 shooting at Miami.

Wsup Rady .... Thanks for the Game-Thread .. The KP Mavs beat the Bucks on Monday .. KO fans don't get any high expectation on tonight game.
After last night Knicks performance i doubt if the Knicks will show up for tonight game .. the Miami Heats bench scored 60 pts, grab 23 rbs, and gave out 15 Dimes on the Knicks last night. We probably see the NO-Show Knicks tonight .. or the opposite ???

Thanks for the game thread. Not sure it’s worth watching this, since I couldn’t get through the Heat game yesterday. Back to back, one of the worst teams in the Knicks against Giannis and the Bucks, you would think this is going to be a Bucks rout. If you haven’t seen Giannis, when they said he’ll be unstoppable if he ever developed a 3 pt shot, well he has. Made 52 3s all of last season and has 49 already with 1/4 of the season played so far and shooting at a .333 pct vs. less than .300 last season.

Talk of demoting Ntilikina from the starting lineup and promoting Payton. Tonight might be the night to do that against one of the best teams in the NBA. Nits has had plenty of time to prove himself as the starter but he’s shooting 38%, not much better than his rookie season, and he isn’t aggressive getting into the lane, a must have skill if Miller wants to get his points in the paint.

The Giannis Bucks showed up to scorch the Lakers Thursday night .. the Lakers defense slept on PG Hill & SG Mathews who combine to score 34 pts in a game where the Lakers never had the lead.

Miller's biggest problem may be the Knicks FO calling shots from upstairs now that Mills hired consultant Blatt.
My biggest problem with Miller coaching are Rookie RJ Barrett receiving more than 26 minute per, plus RJ being in the starter lineup over Dotson.
Tonight, I would like to see a lot of Payton running the point for the 2nd unit bench of MitchRob, Portis, Knox, Dotson. Please, no more DSJ unless Payton or Frank are in the lineup.

Demoting Ntilikina after struggling against an elite Miami team bothers me. Even if Payton plays better than Ntilikina, he is an injury waiting to happen.

Morris averaging over 18 points per game and currently 3rd in the NBA in 3 point shooting. Also a plus defender and he is on a team friendly deal with a team option for next season. No question even our lame duck front office could get a good offer for him.

We are years away from competing. Holding onto Morris for another season doesn?t make sense.

Rookie RJ Barrett inexperience performance does not belong in the starter lineup!
Unless the team has two guards having 10 yr experience under their belt in the lineup .. Butler & Dragic & rookie Nunn made RJ look like a BUSTER last night. When we play Lottery teams like GSW, Kings, and Hawks then u could put RJ in the starter lineup.

It's not like Nits is an iron man. Against the Bucks I don't think it matters who starts, we're going to get crushed , 23-6 now and 6-6 from 3. Miller has had to call 2 to's already to stem the onslaught.

We all know Marcus Morris are our best FA pickup since FA Kidd came to the Knicks.
If the Knicks want rookie RJ Barrett to become a future winning star player, then they must resign Morris to a 4 yr $$$ contract

We losing by 12 and he doing a good job. REALLY
Nits dribbles into a double and then makes a dumb ass pass for an over and back turnover. 30 something Hill goes at him strong and posterizes him and he misses the 2 jump shots he takes in 5 mins of play. I'll take Payton anyday yes.

He dribble into the key were the coach want the ball to go, right. When you go that deep into the key what in the hell do you think you are going to draw? Answer - A double team!! What do you do but pass out of it. That says someone is free. correct. Bobby didn't go to the open space.

Know fundamental BB!!!

We down by 13.
