Eddy Curry in trouble, again
By Alan Hahn

Another arrest warrant was issued in Cook County (Ill.) court for Eddy Curry, who once again failed to complete his responsibility in paying the remaining $100,000 in a $660,000 ag...reement from a prior civil suit. Authorities expect Curry to turn himself in, but if he doesn't, he will be arrested.

The Chicago Sun-Times has the story here. There was a previous arrest warrant for Curry in late June, which was rescinded when Curry's Chicago-based legal team worked out a payment schedule for the rest of the money Curry owed in the settlement, which was the result of a civil suit from 2001.

Curry had been working out at the MSG Training Center in Westchester from April through late June. He was expected to go to Las Vegas earlier this month to work out with other Knicks veterans during the NBA Summer League, but he failed to show. Curry spoke with Donnie Walsh about the incident and explained his absence, which had to do with the fact that he was at his offseason home in Chicago where his wife gave birth to their couple's fourth child, a boy, on July 16. Curry told Walsh he would be back at the MSG Training Center later this summer to resume his workout schedule.

But Curry, who has appeared in just 10 games in the last two years because of injury and conditioning problems, clearly has more off-the-court issues to resolve before he can fully concentrate on reviving his career as he heads into the final year of his contract. The 27-year-old center is in a desperate financial state that has been well-documented (more info can be found here, too) and continues to get worse.

A source with direct knowledge of the situation told Newsday that Curry is now going without legal representation in Chicago because he apparently has failed to pay his lawyer, Kelly Saindon.

Saindon could not be immediately reached for comment, but the Sun-Times reported court records show Saindon's firm has attempted to withdraw because, "Defendant has continuously failed to pay invoices. Without his cooperation and payment of invoices, the firm cannot represent defendant in this matter."

According to the aforementioned source, Curry received 50 percent of his $11.2M salary for the 2010-11 season on July 1. So the fact that he hasn't paid legal fees of the $100,000 remaining in a nine-year-old civil suit is curious. He'll get the remaining 50 percent in the usual bi-weekly form that players are paid, from Nov. 15 to May 1.

Along with the money owed on the civil suit and to his lawyer and his house going into foreclosure, Curry also reportedly defaulted on a $570,000 personal loan he took out on Feb. 2008 through a Nevada-based lender (which grew to $1.2M with a ridiculous 85 percent interest rate) and owes $350,000 to fellow NBAer Juwan Howard from another personal loan.

What a waste. This is sad. Within a few years we will hear of Curry being homeless and living on the street. This will end tragically.

At this point I'm starting to feel bad for him...

Usually when you're rich you hire somebody WISE and COMPETENT to handle your finances...come on, Eddy.

Me too. Isn't there anybody that can intervene? One of his teammates? Someone in the NBA? Everyone is standing around and watching a man publically destroy himself.

Maybe this is why he has trouble playing with any sense of purpose. He constantly has some stressful issue in the back of his mind to deal with. Not making any excuses for him, but maybe he would perform better if he had more peace in his life.

Sorry but I can't feel sorry for this guy. He's making more money than most people will make in a lifetime.

He just got a payout of close to 6 million dollars. That is enough to pay off all his debts outright and still leave him a million or two pocket change... Plus bi-weekly payments of almost 400k... Seriously if you can't live off that it's just pathetic.

Pay off all your debts, get rid of the stress, take a step down on the lifestyle ladder and play a season that's gonna get you a few million next year. It's not friggin rocket science.

And hire a god damn accountant.

Unless he has some sort of mental issue, I can't possibly feel sorry for him either. Millionaire ****wit. What a joke.

I'm feeling sorry for him because of legal issues that aren't his fault, not his debt...

Basketball has to be the last thing on his mind given that he rather recently found out that his ex-girlfriend and daughter were murdered...I mean, that's just rough, no matter how much money you have.

His poor money management...yeah, it's not news (MC Hammer, the plethora of famous folks who end up penniless), but the guy's been through a lot (after all, his DAUGHTER was shot...that's just messed up)

Ass Clown Curry Strikes Again!

Eddy Curry is the Ass Clown of the NBA. He is responsible for every situation he finds himself in, and his irresponsibility stems from the fact that he did not go to college, or get an education in LIFE. Stupid Ass Clown!

Because not every player who did not go to college makes the same mistakes...

Just because Eddy Curry's problems may or may not stem from the fact that he did not go to college does not mean anyone who does not go to college has Eddy Curry's problems...everyone is affected by their life choices differently.

Hard to fathom that a ghetto kid making 12M a year could have so much financial trouble. Usually, the financial troubles start when your playing days are over. Curry has one more year of guaranteed paychecks to clean up his financial troubles, after that his future is uncertain.

how can you have debt problems when you make 11 million a year doing nothing...I do feel bad for Curry but at the same time he is just an utter moron.

What a lazy sack of wasted talent.

He better accept a buy out or he will be on a street before this season ends.

Im hoping these financial problems force him to accept a buy out.
