Jared Jeffries nearly negotiated a buyout with the Houston Rockets that could have resulted in the veteran forward returning to the Knicks.
Jeffries would only acknowledge that his goal is to play either for the Rockets or another team but would not confirm the talks of a buyout. However, a source says that Jeffries rejected the buyout because the Rockets' offer was in effect too low.
Jeffries was traded to Houston last February in the Tracy McGrady deal after flourishing under Mike D'Antoni. Jeffries struggled in his two seasons under Isiah Thomas but found a role in D'Antoni's system and didn't want to leave.
The Knicks have the maximum 15 players under contract but could conceivably create a roster spot if Jeffries were to become available.
"I did love playing here," Jeffries said before Sunday night's game. "Who knows, maybe one day I'll be back."
Jeffries did not play Sunday night and has appeared in just three of the Rockets' nine games and has played just 29 minutes.

I have to say I would welcome JJ's return to MSG. Jeffries and Turiaf is just what the doctor ordered. Williams or Mason can go, if you ask me.
Jeffies will help sto PGs; bring effort and give us another body in the paint.
A rotation or Turiaf, Mozgov and Jeffries is a good thing; and playing BOTH at times might even help. IF we're not scoring, might as well go with defense at times to STOP the other team.
Who knows.... maybe if Randolph gets minutes and Curry gets in shape... We might be respectable in the paint?
