Game Thread: New York Knicks vs Cleveland Cavaliers 7:30pm 3/26/2016

LG still gets a good amount of playing time and the Knicks like him. I think he'll be here if he doesn't ask for a big pay raise.

He's a D-league player... No need to spend money on what is essentially the 4th or 5th guard in your rotation. I think we've seen enough to know what he is. If he wants to stay for league min type contract... I can live with that... Or else... BYE. Especially with Wroten signing.

Melo on fire second half.

Looking forward to seeing Wroten. I wonder if they'll bring back Seraphin, Early and Sasha. AA and DWill may opt out and I don't think they stretch JC and allow him to play out his contract.

Too little too late after a poor start. Never really threatened the Cavs even with a couple of runs led by Melo, Cavs were in charge for the entire game.

Knicks, like most team, never okay well in that 3rd game in a 4-day stretch... POPS calls it a scheduled loss... On top of that, CLE humiliated by Nets previous game, so they were focused and ready to take care of biz... They hammered us in the first quarter and that was ballgame.

But... We had open looks... Just missed the shots. At least they showed heart and fought... They didn't just let CLE run away with the win while making plans to hit the clubs tonight. Not going to salute them... But, I can excuse the result.

We currently have the 8th worst record in the NBA, but we are only around 1 game behind in record Milwaukee, Orlando, and Denver with 8 games left to play. As far as I know, we are the only lottery team with an incentive to not tank out the rest of the season, so we have no excuse to not get ourselves to the 11th worst record in the NBA.

You might ask, what does that even matter? Well, for the good of the psyche of Knicks fans, anything that can get that lost #1 pick less chance of being a stud franchise player, the better.

Some people online suggesting today that it looks like Porzingis may have 'busted through the rookie wall' averaging 20 points, 8 boards, and 1.7 blocks on 48% shooting from the floor over the last 4 games. It would be great for him to end the season on a high note rather than limp to the finish line like he looked like he was going to do only a week or so ago.

At the very least finish ahead of Denver so they don't have the option of swapping picks, its not much to play for and Rambis isn't going to be using that in any motivation speeches. Play for pride, the best record possible and most of all for Knicks fans.

Looks like JR and Shump may not be the only guys PJ gave away. Timmy down in ATL may be another. I understand PJ needing a PG but JG has been underwhelming so far. Very good article on the rejuvenated THJ in ATL.

I totally agree with Jerian Grant being underwhelming. That said, THJ had a stretch of literally 2 good games followed by 2 okay games, then a no-impact game, and most recently, last night, a game where he scored 3 points shooting 1 for 8 from the floor. This all followed 68 games of not being able to really break into the Hawks rotation.

On a similar note, JR Smith actually has worse numbers than Afflalo in similar minutes this season and Shump is averaging 5.6 points per game playing 24 minutes per game on 38% shooting from the floor. Shump also continues to be vastly overrated on defense, averaging only 1.0 steals per game, and once again missed a big chunk of the season due to injury.

I get that people think PJ should have gotten something, anything, of value for these guys he traded away, but maybe we never had any players with any real value. I know that I saw enough of THJ in New York to know that it was unlikely he was ever going to be an NBA starter on a good team.

Remember when PJ traded for him and the hype about him not being your typical NBA rookie because he spent 4 yrs at ND and was going to contribute right away.

I can't say he's been an outright bust but the fact he comes from a bball family and was a 4 yr college player gives me concern that he's not talented enough.

The rookie combo-guard Grant for THJ were probably the best move Phil did for the Knicks .. In another two seasons we all will agree.

Afflalo's talent n skills would have never help Lebron get to the FINALS.
JRsmith n Shump has turned out to be great "Role-Players" on a one star-player team.
And their defensive-roles has turned-out to be immaculate .. The Cavs record with JR n Shump says Phil should've receive a first n 2nd round draft pick for the trade.

After watching how Fisher n Rambis foolishly coached a rookie PG throughout 74 games .. The Hype on Jerian Grant should be doubled come offseason. Grant showed the all-around tools of being a PG in the NBA, the coaching we gave Grant on the court was the PITS!

I heard MIA (Riley) was prepared to draft Grant at 10 (but Winslow fell in his lap).

Not many rookie PGs excel their rookie years (to much to learn). Then toss in the "intricate" triangle system and the coaching... This is pretty much a redshirt year.

JG has the athletic talent to get to the rim... that is a nice foundation. He can develop an outside shot... Work on his defense. Grant is a guy who will thrive if the light clicks on and he doesn't have to think much n the court... If he can grasp his role and assignments and at with confidence... He might be more than a backup PG.

since I've never seen him play, I really can't comment on his skills, other then to say... the phila cast-off..
Doesn't mean a thing with the Sixers. They'd have gotten rid of Westbrook in his first year, there is already talk they want to trade Okafor this off season. Hinke is arguably the worst GM in the NBA, needed a PG with Mudiay still on the board but drafts a big when they drafted Noel and Embiid in their 2 previous drafts.

Agreed. Hinkie ran that team with the philosophy that any given year he was going to get a Lebron James generational defining player in the draft. Didn't get it this year? Well, let's do it again next year and the year after that and so on. No incremental growth of the team, just keep stripping back down and try again.
