In order for the pick-and-roll to work you have to have motion in the back court. Mike D's lineup in Pheonix had Raja Bell as the starting 2 guard and he was a prolific defender and an average 3 point shooter but nowhere near a sharpshooter. Iggy could be that Raja Bell type player... Barbosa came off the bench and I see Douglas moving into that role. If they were a half court team who was working the inside outside game, like the Spurs, then they would need that sharp shooting 2 or 1 guard.

I disagree. Raja Bell was a 43% 3-point shooter in Phx. He played excellent defense but was mainly camped out behind the 3-point line in offense allowing the necessary spacing for Nash and Amare to play the pick-and-roll.

I don't want iggy, dalembert, gordon or really any of the above mentioned guards/forwards.

We need a starting center. So dwight or Gasol could fill that role. I picked Gasol as he is the more immediate option available. If he can give us what his brother gives the lakers then i think that makes us immediate contenders.

If melo goes elsewhere I am liking what i am seeing out of fields. Why can't we grow with felton, fields, gallo, Amar'e, and turiaf/another center? as our starting 5? Chandler as 6th man is working well. If we need to do a trade for any piece that is not named Melo is should be a legit center.

Sign Marc Gasol
Trade Chandler Mozgov Felton AR 1 secon rounder for Holiday and Iguodala

Holiday
Iguodala
Gallo
Amare
Gasol

Douglas, Turiaf, Fields, Walker

Then fire D'Antoni

= good team

Are you an idiot???
Seriously you must be because I don't know how you can say this when Felton has been on fire... Stat and Felton are gaining a lot of understanding and you say get Holiday.. Get a clue.

I like the bit about signing Marc, but that is all we need to do. Draft well and get Marc and were set. With Azza coming back we will have a good solid cast of players. With the emergence of Felton and hopefully Gallo and Chandler this team has the personal to do a lot that others can't.

I can't believe you are saying to once again dismantle this team and rebuild.. What the **** is wrong with some people.

All we need is Marc and some quality draft picks and then let this team gel. We will be going places if we do it right. To start trying to trade and put doubt into the players we have now on whether they will be here or not is not good for cohesion and chemistry. Seems that is lost on people here playing armchair GM.

Am I the only one who thinks that Melo isn't a good fit? Another scorer who's a sloppy defender and doesn't pass the ball alot? We already have this in Amare. We need players that complement each other....having Melo, Felton,Gallo and Amare on the court at the same time for heavy minutes would be horrible...we would have to score 150 pts per game because we would allow almost as much any day. D still wins championships!
I'd rather have Iggy and another RonnyT-type of player to complete our roster.

Toons

felton
fields

I always felt that Melo would be the perfect fit for this team and James would be the player that didn't fit for the very same reasons you listed. If you remember during the Olympics it was Melo that really excelled in this format and James, and at times Kobe, struggled. As far as his Chemistry with STAT, he is what STAT needs to bleed some of the pressure off of him. I think a guy like Jamal Crawford or Marbury would be a bad fit; guys that can't create shots for other people and just dribble the ball and shoot with 5 left on the clock. Now in an earlier post I wrote that we might need a guy like Crawford but what I meant was the Atlanta Hawks version of him, a guy that comes off the bench, plays limited minutes, is controlled a little more and is a 3 point/ long range specialist.... Not the Knicks version of him where he was the starting 2 guard, a ball hog and basically played a 1 man game.... I think if Douglas can get a little more consistent with his outside shot; we actually have that guy that we need off the bench. But, STAT still needs another dominate scorer that will demand a double and even triple team.... Right now, STAT is getting mauled by the opponent because no other Knick has warranted on a regular basis a double team.
I agree 100% about Turiaf... He is Exactly what Stat needs flanking him but the problem is Turiaf is injury prone so we need to Keep him for now while we try to find a healthier version of him... Who that is exactly is a mystery at this point in time.... Dalembert??? Tyson Chandler??? Draft??? Do we land Melo and stay pat and try to keep some cap room to possibly make a run a Dwight instead of Chris Paul???

I would definitely sign either Marc Gasol or Tyson Chandler.

I think I would sign Jamal Crawford as well, if he would take a 3-year deal. BUt if we could trade for a Mayo, Jason Thompson, or some player I don't even know who is available.... then great.

Good thing, if we don't get Melo, would be for him to accept extension wherever BEFORE trade deadline. This way we could move Curry's expiring deal.

I would draft a true, play-making PG with our 1st round pick (imagine if we could draft Kyrie Irving).

Felton
Fields
Gallo
STAT
Gasol/Chandler

Chandler and Crawford off the bench; with Turiaf and Perkins/Davis; Douglas and a rookie PG; along with Randolp and Mozgov.

ANYWAY.... It's obvious what our the needs of this team:

1) We need a legit center. Mozgov has a ways to go. Turiaf is injury-prone. A real center to put in there next to Amar'e is need #1. We can only hope Mozgov can be groomed into a Turiaf-like player. Randolph should also learn from Ronnie, on how to impact a game on the defensive end and the glass. Stop worrying about getting your points. WAIT until you develop that part of your game. Contribute somehow.

2) We also need a legit 6th-man scoring option off the bench. A light em guard like Crawford or something.

3) We also could use a playmaking backup PG.

I don't think we need crawful at the money he would want. I am very happy with chandlers play this year, I would keep him as our primary 6th man.

The only glaring weakness I can see is at the Center position. With 2 rookie 7 footers on the team, that is to be expected. If either one of Mozgov or ARandolph can figure out their game we would be in very good position, a 2nd scorer like Melo away from title contention. If they can't figure it out we drop the dead weight and pick up someone who can fill that 20-28 minute role to give turiaf a break.

The mere mention of Crawful coming back to the Knicks when we have Fields and Azubuike, makes me wanna barf:barf:

I'd forgotten that Chandler was unrestricted this offseason. He's coming off what, thus far, looks like a career season in rebounding and a $12.75M contract.

He's been injured often and has no offensive game - bar finishing 'oops - and if he does finish off the season the way he's started it, he'll be asking for an incremental salary starting somewhere around $11M for 4 years, depending on the CBA's final outcome.

Another HRHW, high risk - high reward contract.

Tough call ATM. See how that develops.

He's still young though. 27? And, Ronnie Turiaf has shown the way, so getting another version of RT will only make the impact greater.

In essence, STAT will ALWAYS be surrounded by a big who will defend, block shots, protect the paint, and rebound. PERFECT compliment to STAT, who will be allowed to stick at PF for good.

Sure, not the best choice. Bring back Darko? Lol.

Seriously, Marc Gasol will be the 1st choice. BUt if we miss out on Carmelo, then we owe it to STAT-FELTON to bring in something of value...

Would you prefer we trade for Heywood? What are the other options?

I think Chandler is worth the risk. STAT-CHANDLER would be lethal, with Turiaf, Randolph and Mozgov.

Not at all. I do not think Melo will be a good fit. This is STATs team. Bring Melo and somebody needs to step down. Can Melo do that? Has Melo proven he can be the second fiddle?

Cause as we look at the Miami fiasco those three divas are not working out.

Sign the big man. Wing Players have not really won in this era barring Jordan.

Kobe Coudln't do it without Gasol or Shaq.

Wade Couldn't do it without Shaq....

We have our big man, Amar'e. We just need a wing player to go along with him...

i would say PF and PG are all set for years to come now we just gotta fill out the starting line-up Fields could be a staple but a great wing player and capable C is needed to make this team elite
