Knicks interested in Eric Gordon

With so much talk of a big man since Robin Lopez left, some people forget we have a huge hole to fill at shooting guard. One way we can predict who the Knicks will target is by looking at what kind of offense Jeff Hornacek ran in phoenix, often a two guard up tempo offense. Enter Eric Gordon, an injury riddled shooting guard that when healthy can push the pace and provide some instant offense.

There is evidence that the Knicks are targeting Gordon and there are connections in play:

Q: Any news on Eric Gordon in FA? ? Steve Kyler: Heard Wolves, Pacers, and Knicks have interest ? not sure what he?ll cost

This video is Eric Gordon explaining his relationship with Derrick Rose, who he played with on his AAU team back in the day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkbWrV3iUAw

With the acquisition of Derrick Rose and Jeff Hornacek's type of offense might come a possible acquisition of Eric Gordon. His injury history might be as concerning as Rose himself, but a healthy Gordon can light it up and be great in a fast tempo offense. However, the injury history might be too alarming for the Knicks and not worth breaking the bank.

Would anyone want to see us offer him any type of deal? and how much is he worth?

I like Gordon, but his injuries concern me (not nearly as much if we get a great deal). At the same time though, it'd be great to have another player who can have his kind of impact if another player goes down.

If our starting five is Melo, Porzingis, Noah, Rose, and Gordon, then we must have a young and consistently healthy bench (Derrick Williams for youth and athleticism, Jamal Crawford consistently being healthy and another player who can take over a game).

Unless Hornacek brings Phoenix's legendary medical staff with him, we should not be the team to try to hold together a core of Rose, Gordon, and Noah medically this coming season.

When all is said and done, I don't think we need a SG whose primary skill is scoring, as silly as it sounds. Melo, Rose, and Porzingis are all scorers. Unfortunately, I'm not sure who the obvious available defense first SG free agent out there is right now. Noah is clearly that guy at the center position, so maybe he is worth it despite the injury risk.

How much does he want? If it's a 1 year 10 Million dollar deal, then I'm cool. Anymore or any longer a contract would be crazy!!

Yeah a great one year contract sounds like a great deal, as long as we get at least a decent bench that doesn't have a concerning health history and is young enough.

He made 16M last season so it's hard seeing him taking a pay cut to 10M.

He doesn't play D or rebound so I wouid prefer a 3 and D guy like Courtney Lee who also isn't an injury risk like Gordon.

Courtney Lee is 3 years older and not as money from 3 as Gordon is. Just last year EG played in 62 games and shot 45% from downtown.

Now... Lee for 7 mil a year vs EG for 15 mil? I take Lee. But, if it's a short term deal... Roll dice in Rose & Gordon... both 27... see what happens. A lot more upside with EG than Lee.

I still hope they bring in Lee or Turner or Crawford along with EG & Noah... Even if that means losing DW.

To me, LT is the main guy I want to keep of the 4.

Gordon shot 45% from downtown the year before, last season he shot 38% around his career avg. CLee has a career 3 pt avg of 38% just like EG and has quite a few years where he shot over 40% from downtown.

Gordon is also going to chase the money and I would expect he's looking for a raise from his last contract with the cap going up despite his injury history. Lets see what the demand for him is out there but I don't see him taking a pay cut to come to NY to play if there is a better deal out there.

CLee actually has better career shooting % and eFG% numbers than EG but has been way less injury prone. I'd say EG is way overrated and CLee underrated from their career numbers.

Shooting guard Courtney Lee is the New York Knicks’ top free agent target, and it sounds like the two sides are working towards an agreement.
The Verticals Shams Charania reports that Lee and the Knicks are meeting to finalize a deal on Friday morning. However, Charania's colleague Adrian Wojnarowski says the Knicks are talking with Eric Gordon and have made him their top target.
Lee shot 45.4 percent on field goals last season with the Hornets and Grizzlies, including 37.8 on threes. He also shot 83.9 percent from the line last season.
In addition to Lee, the Knicks are also trying to sign Austin Rivers as a backup point guard, per the New York Post’s Marc Berman.
If the Knicks are able to sign one or both players, they will have a vastly different look next season. They already acquired Derrick Rose in a trade, it’s a foregone conclusion that they will sign Joakim Noah, and adding Lee would give them another new starter to their lineup.
