Sheed signing is official and we now have the oldest team in NBA History.

Now....this "Oldest Team in NBA History" is over exxggeratted because
1.all of the above 37 year old players were brought in as backup and T.C. is our oldest starter at 30

2. 2 of the plus 36 year old players are not expected to play (Pablo P. and Kurt) so that sway's the statistic....in theory we could dead the statistic by just cutting KurThomas and signing one of the 3 rookies working out!


Anyways.....so The Knicks plan is embraced by Knick fans and mocked by everyone else (what else is new) but at the end of the day it will have proven to be an affective method or a bust.

I think bringing in former All Stars as role players is brilliant. I thought it was a smart move for Boston to have added Sam Cassell (39 years old) when they won The NBA Championship. It was smart of for Mia. to have added Gary Payton when they won their first NBA Championship.

Older players are the perfect role players in my opinion


See there is a lot more balance with age than people think.....see for every over 37 player actually expected to play there is a young player playing in front of them who is expected to do the leg work

Camby/Tyson
Sheed/Stat

Only time will tell how it plays out
 
I don't see the age of the team as a problem because we're not asking old guys to come in and drop 30 points a game, we're just asking them to be role players, to come in and fill the little holes we need to patch up and that's what they're supposed to do and that's what they're more than able to do with their experience.
 
I really liked this offseason, can anyone think of a major hole in our roster? Team chemistry will be a solid issue this year but we have 3 capable point guards who will mesh well with the roster.

Instead of going for home runs, we patched every hole in the roster, and when 100% healthy, have exceptional depth at the 1,2 and 5. Not to mention 2 capable small forwards and a solid PF rotation.

we need another knock down shooter with consistency, thats about it
 
Brilliant thread! Love it.

I think one thing to consider with the listed role players is that they all came in to well founded systems, none of which had any real question marks regarding the roles and impact of its individuals. David Robinson still was basically the founding stone of SA's system and was just replaced by Duncan.

Harper, Payton, Cassell were all brought in to previously established systems, while the Knicks are still kind of stuck in purgatory with their 2 highest payed players. Add to that new players at the point (pivotal position), trying to get STAT and Melo working after a dismal season together last year, as well. I think there's going to have to be some real baby steps for this time in some areas.

Still, I love the thread! Gotta love thinking outside of the box.

Yeah our core is still on the young side so its not a fair statement to say we are the oldest in nba history..

If people wanna talk about whos Old it should be the Lakers. Everyone on that starting team other than Dwight is over 30 and well past their primes

However the only thing that worries me is that if we have any injuries to our starters our age could really start to show. I think we really could have used maybe one or two more young athletic forwards

YES ......we do not have a solid consistant knock down 2 guard....
With that said I like the roster...
But to me thats our weakness.

No more 2 guards!!

We already have 3 when at full strength so another 2 guard would get NOOO burn at all after the first week or so. Brewer is not far from coming back and Dantoni got us in this mindset that we need so many shooters.

We have enough 3 pt threats and 1 assassin.

Novak
Shump (can hit)
Sheed

Come the playoffs its all about getting easy shots inside anyway so why waste another spot on a guy getting no burn.

Novak is the only one I can guarantee shooting +40%

Miami has Battier/Miller/Chalmer/Jones and Judas Shuttlesworth

we need JR to be a more consistent 3 point shooter 45% at least along with Melo/Felton/Kidd

All I'm saying is if you really REALLY want another shooter then it should prob be a 3. The 2 spot on this team is locked up. Get a Shawne Williams type...

We should be fine this season, but we are not going to get younger for at least three seasons. Camby and Kidd have three year contracts. We do have a 1st round draft pick this year -2013, but not 2014, and hopefully this year's will be very late in Round 1.

It is a shame that our only truly promising non-veteran is Shumpert. I count Felton, JR and Novak veterans. I do not count White, Shurna, or Copeland as particularly promising. Shumpert will learn an awful lot from the players who have already had stellar careers.

I mean 2/3 same thing, remember we can go with JR/Shumpert/Brewer at the 3 as well as the 2 depending on what a team puts out on the floor

but there really isn't a knockdown shooter on the market......Kapono?

I see where you're coming from but I just don't see the need. It's not like we are taking Novak out and putting in Kopono for the sake that they are nearly the same exact player. Shooter and nothing else which is a liability on defense... the same goes for if they are in the game at the same time, which would only be fore a play or 2. Novak doesn't play enough to need a substitute that does the exact same thing when he subs out. You put him in then take him out then repeat. 1 snipper works fine and that's what most teams have in the NBA.

When a player like Novak or Kapono is subbed into the game the opposing team knows to attack that player over and over again. So having multiple shooting specialist on this team hurts rather then helps. Defenders and athletes who are capable of hitting the 3 is much more valuable.

Well I think Kidd and Camby have too much pride in themselves and their game to play beyond the years of production for 3 million dollars.

I see them both retiring after next seaon.

Plus in three years from now we'll have only like 12 million committed to payroll, we'll have a first rounder that off season so I can live with being an older team til then

I mean unlike the Isiah years when it was years of losing and watching the payroll increase each year with no end in sight, we are actually a good team that has a solid rebuilding plan if we don't win a title in the near future.

I agree when I look at the Knicks roster thats the only thing thats missing one more knockdown 3 point shooter.

But this a good thread and I think it's a recipe for success history has shown you win with your stars in their prime or around their prime and with veteran role players.

Miami's role players besides Chalmers and Cole all vets

Dallas in 11' all vets

Lakers in 09 and 10' role players were vets

Boston in 08 another team filled with veteran role players


What people don't get is that this Knicks team would be a bust most likely if they were calling for Kidd to be the starting PG and play heavy minutes or Camby being the starting C or Sheed being like a 6th man or something playing heavy minutes.

The Knicks have a plethora of savvy vets who will be playing no more than prob 15-20 mins a game and in short sports they will produce consistently unlike young players who often struggle with limited inconsistent minutes.

I'm a Lakers fan but I really like the way this Knicks team is put together besides health I can't see this team falling apart there's too many vets and experience in that locker to allow mental lapses and inconsistent play.

too much like Novak, we need someone to come off of curls and baseline stagger screens

those type of shooters, Novak is good in the corner and coming off down screens not sure about running him off the baseline
