Tonight our Knicks face off against the Pistons!
5 things to know about tonights matchup (via NYKNICKS.COM):
1. The Knicks bounced back in a major way on Saturday night. New York’s crew opened the Garden in style by topping the Grizzlies in an impressive 111-104 win. The keys to the Knicks win was 24 total assists, the 52.6 percent shooting clip from the floor, and a balanced scoring attack featuring with four of the five starters in double figures. New York owned an 18-piont lead early in the contest, fought through adversity when the advantage dropped to just two points, and eventually improved to 1-1 on the season.
2. Watch for the bench production from the Knicks in Tuesday’s contest. On Saturday, New York’s second unit combined for 35 points, led by Kyle O’Quinn and his 11 in 19 minutes of action.
3. Ron Baker returned to practice on Monday afternoon at MSG Training Center. Head coach Jeff Hornacek said he would decide who is on the active roster and whether the team will go with a big man or guard prior to tipoff.
4. Optimism was high this summer surrounding the Pistons after a playoff berth in 2015-16. Detroit will attempt to reach the playoffs once again without its starting point guard for the start of the season. Ish Smith has jumped into the starting group and will now take the reigns for the short-term. Through three games, Smith has been solid, averaging 11 points and 7.3 assists in 30 minutes per game.
5. Detroit was dropped in the season opener to the Raptors but found the win column in its previous two games by defeating Orlando by 26 points and Milwaukee by 15. The key cog in Stan Van Gundy’s system is big man Andre Drummond. On Friday night, Drummond dominated the paint with 20 points and 23 rebounds to lift his team to a home victory. Knicks assistant coach Jerry Sichting told Knicks.com they would like to avoid doubling Drummond but there will be times the road team looks to be aggressive for a double-team opportunity depending on where Drummond operates – the left or right block. Additionally, he wants to see the bigs halt Drummond in transition and limit rim-run attempts towards the paint. New York will also have to prepare to defend Van Gundy’s spread pick-and-roll and drive-and-kick style of offense.
