Knicks @ Magic - Tuesday, March 1st

The Knicks are Back
i think we should go after howard from the start, that way he'll be in foul trouble and eliminating orlandos size at which point i think we got the upperhand. should be another great game though

I don't think we were too far off the last time we played them, but I remember my main bitch was that they didn't play Turiaf on Howard and it cost STAT as he was in foul trouble the whole game.

Put a body on Howard and frustrate him and who knows, the dude might tech foul out. But I'm not a huge fan of doubling him as it leaves their 3 point shooters open.

The Orlando Magic are going to find out quite a bit about their status among the Eastern Conference?s elite over the next few days.

If the New York Knicks? latest performance is any indication, they might be on the cusp of joining that group.

The Magic begin a stretch of three games in four nights against some of the East?s top contenders with Tuesday?s visit from the Knicks, who bounced back from a loss to the league?s worst team by beating one of the best.

Dwight Howard(notes) was furious with the effort he saw after Orlando (38-22) lost to Sacramento on Wednesday, questioning the desire and dedication of some of his teammates.

The Magic responded Friday with one of their more impressive efforts, throttling Oklahoma City 111-88 behind 40 points from the two-time reigning Defensive Player of the Year. They weren?t as dominant Sunday against Charlotte, but a 100-86 win had Howard considering the big picture.

?We?re talented enough to beat anybody,? he said. ?We?re equipped, whatever you want to call it ? to win a championship. We have to continue to play hard and be consistent with that we do. That?s the only way we?re going to get to where we?re trying to get to.?

Perhaps the biggest week of the season for Orlando begins with its first look at the Knicks (30-27) since the arrival of Carmelo Anthony(notes) and Chauncey Billups(notes). That?s followed by a game at Southeast Division-leading Miami on Thursday before a visit from Central leader Chicago on Friday.

?We simply need to take it day-by-day and we need to focus on getting better every night out, no matter who we?re playing,? coach Stan Van Gundy said. ?So (beating Charlotte) was just as big as who we?re playing on Tuesday night or Thursday or Friday.?

New York looked like a work in progress Wednesday despite beating Milwaukee 114-108 in Anthony?s debut, then seemed to take a big step backward Friday with a 115-109 loss at league-worst Cleveland.

In the Knicks? first major test with their new acquisitions, they came through. Down 84-78 in Miami on Sunday with three minutes to play, New York finished with a 13-2 run and got a huge block from Amare Stoudemire(notes) in the final seconds to stun the Heat 91-86.

?The bigger the game, the bigger the stage, the bigger they play,? coach Mike D?Antoni said of his team?s star core of Stoudemire, Anthony and Billups - who gave the Knicks the lead for good with a 3-pointer with 1:01 left.

Despite his excitement, D?Antoni is aware New York has plenty of work to do to become a title contender.

?This is our third game in a long process. We aren?t there yet,? D?Antoni said. ?Right now, we?re a bunch of good individuals, but to play together and play the way we need to play against good teams will take awhile.?

Orlando beat the Knicks 112-103 at the Amway Center on Dec. 30 behind 24 points and 18 rebounds from Howard. Stoudemire scored a game-high 30, but had just four boards as the Magic outrebounded New York 51-35.

Anthony could help the Knicks get a little revenge. The four-time All-Star averages 28.1 points versus Orlando, his most against any team other than his current club.

Only the Magic attempt more 3-pointers (24.7 per game) than the Knicks (23.7). However, Orlando has made just 31.3 percent of its attempts - fourth-worst in the league - from beyond the arc since Jan. 28.

In that same span, New York?s 3-point defense (42.2 percent) has been the NBA?s worst.

I'm looking forward to the game. After the Heat game, I hope the Knicks can win it. They need consistancy to be a contender.

Hopefully we can play with the same type of defensive intensity that we played with against Miami. Rebounding and boxing out against Dwight Howard will also be key for NY tonight. Should be a great game.

Crazy 8's Great thread again my friend. Love the enthusiasm! Lol.
I feel good about tonight. As long as we shoot better then them from the field we got this. OH YEAH and same defense as a couple nights ago for sure.
We need that tought D, everytime Howard touches it should be a double. Looking for Billups to take over this game again. Billups Stat Melo 20+ each we win.

i will be really pissed if 06-07 arenas shows up for this game, i think he is a ticking time bomb that will explode one game and get him back on track to the old arenas.

I feel like I just don't like this team as much as before....

why do you feel like that JPZ? we have been waiting for 3 + years for the so called plan to unfold. I miss our old guys to but I am looking forward to watching 2 stars for 4+ years.:2cents:

Anyway good thread Crazy you and JPZ always hold it down

The Miami game may have been the biggest victory our franchise has seen in over 10 years, but this Orlando game is just as, if not more important that the Miami game. We still have a shot at the 4th seed. As it stands ORL is currenty 6 1/5 games up on NY, but a win has us 5 1/2 & only 4 games back in the loss column. Big time game for the new looked Knicks.

At this point I don't think we wil pass anyone. Right now looks like Boston and chicAgo will be the top seeds.
At 6th seed we are looking at Miami

Truth is it does not matter who we play.

Let's just get more chemisty and no injuries.

Our defense just got better with Jeffries. He will do more good then bad.

With jeffries in i see balk man

Key bench is now
Williams
Walker
Douglas
Jeffries
Carter
Brown

11 man rotation. Let's hope

@skisloper, remember that Pringles plays mostly 8-9 guys, so we can expect some players will permanently sit on the bench, it's not an easy thing to get into the rotation, despite being ready to play Walker had to wait several months until he started getting some minutes again.

Great post, I agree on all counts. With the addition of Melo & Billups, along with some solid bench moves to shore up our depth it's looking like the Knicks can compete with anyone. Like you stated, defense is the key. I just feel that we still have a shot @ the 4 seed. With a win tonight, we're only 4 back of the Magic in the loss column. We play Orlando two more times after tonight & their schedule is about to get pretty tough. We're only 3 games back of ATL in the loss column & I'm not a believer in the Hawks just yet. Big game tonight.

More like a ticking time bomb who's knees will explode.

I never understood why the Magic killed themselves with Arenas' contract. The guy is a volume low percentage shooter whos defense was shaky even when fully healthy. Square peg in a round hole to play with an inside outside team of Dwight Howard. I think they shot themselves in the foot for the long term salary wise.

Damn I wish I can see this game. Anyone know any streaming? I'm stuck away from cable for a few days.
