Amar'e only plays defense in a year in which he's motivated to get a max contract. It isn't a guarentee that if Phil Jackson or another coach that emphasizes defense would replace D'antoni, it would influence Amar'e to be a good defensive player. At least Al Harrington doesn't need a max contract in order to put effort on the defensive end.
So because Al Harrington had one good series against one player one time he's a better defensive guy than Amare Stoudemire despite showing little to no intent, effort or skill on the defensive end at any other point in his career?
Al Harrington doesn't need a contract year to play defense - he won't do it at ALL in a contract year (see: his last year as a Knick).
Edit: I'm just trying to clarify your argument: are you saying Al Harrington is a better defensive player than Amare all other things (including the coach) being equal, or that the coach is the issue causing the defensive lapses?
