Informal Game Thread - Knicks vs Kings - December 27, 2014

Not a game where you'd expect much activity given time of day and time of year. Stat is out tonight and likely tomorrow and word is he may need some testing on his knee when we get back to NY. We may be seeing the wear and tear of the season finally catching up to him, which is all the more reason why most teams aren't going to want to touch him despite his good play this year. Let's go Knicks!

Already down by 11 halfway through the 1st quarter. Teams that want to tank should watch us and take notes.

Melo with 8 points and 3 assists in 9 minutes and we are still losing by 10. What more does anyone want from this guy?

We give up an astonishing 38 points in the first quarter and are losing by 11. Melo puts up 10 points and 4 assists in the 1st quarter. He is the only one doing anything on offense and no one is doing anything on defense.

Actually, offense not bad at all so far with 32 points in first 14 minutes. Defense putrid with 44 points given up in 14 minutes. Coach Fisher picks up tech after bad no call on our fast break. Also, our roster is so thin because of injuries and Acy's one game suspension.

Played a decent 2nd quarter to get the lead all the way down to 6 before Collison drills a mid court buzzer beater to make the lead 9. We give up a whopping 67 first half points, but the Kings defense stunk almost as bad. We can definitely win this game, but man, when do we ever do that anymore? Let's go Knicks!

You can only wonder what might have been Melo's fate in NY had we drafted Faired and amnestied Amar'e. Heck, what might have been if we made the deal for Lowry last December that Dolan rejected.

Melo's game sure does have its warts but you cannot blame Anthony for not being Lebron or Bird. He is still a suburb talent... And gets no respect. If anything, INC is his career grade so far. Has little talent around him... Would you pass it to these guys?

We will learn a lot come July about what other players really think about CA. Some point to 2010 as to why we will swing and miss again this Summer... How Lebron and all spurned NY... But that was unique, and not indiciative of whether or not Nyk can attract stars. (1) we had nobody on the roster to entice another stara nd (2) the top 3 dawgs in that f/a already had a plan and that was to head to mia.

This Summer, we have a star player... We have Phil Jax... And we have plenty of cap space, along with a lottery pick. Let's see if players want to come to ny now. Tobias Harrias, Andre Drummond, Dragic, Gasol....

Phil signed Melo, in part, to ensure he had his star... Triangle needs that scoring presence when necessary, and no lock he would replace that soon enough.... But he also wanted to use Melo to lure others to come join in. If Phil cannot convince a few key pieces to sign on to play here, with Melo, i am positive we use the Melo chip in a trade to officially rebuild.

We will not discover this until July... And if we do start to bring in legitimate pieces to build around... We wont know anout Melo being able to win until then. Melo isn't Dirk or Duncan... But even Kobe cant win, or make playoffs, without help.

No matter what your roster, I don't think you can attract major impact free agents to a lottery team. We might get somebody from this offseason, but I doubt it's a marquee player who draws interest from multiple other teams. If we continue to have this poor a record, I think we make our draft pick and then re-build on a smaller scale this offseason and, unfortunately, look to the 2016 offseason instead.

Melo with 30 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists with almost 6 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. I ask again, what more do people want from this one guy? Someone, anyone, on the rest of this roster needs to do something, anything.

Cole Aldrich could be a decent 24 minute BIG if he added running in his talent to get put backs n be the first or second player back on defense. But the KNICKS dont never run an uptempo offense for fastbreak points.
Melo dont have an uptempo game
Marbury didnt have an uptempo game
Allan Houston didnt have an uptempo game
There lies the Knicks 14 year problems .
Three $100M contract players with half the star talent

THJ has made a couple nice shots in this 4th quarter. If only he could do it even remotely on a regular basis. Too little defense for us to win this game. We keep getting the lead to 4 or 5, but we cannot get any big stops.

This unit of Melo, Aldrich, Calderon, Larkin, and THJ is fun to watch if nothing else. Lead down to 3 with less than a minute to go.

Aldrich gets a three point play to cut lead to 2 and then on a great defensive play by Larkin, THJ gets setup on the break and goes all the way to tie the game. Wow. Talk about an unlikely trio of heroes.

Great defensive play by Melo to stop the isolation attempt at a game winner by Gay. We have the ball with a second or so left and tie game.

No chance for a good shot with so little time left, so we go to OT. This is a great game so far. Fun to watch. Let's go Knicks!
