You can only wonder what might have been Melo's fate in NY had we drafted Faired and amnestied Amar'e. Heck, what might have been if we made the deal for Lowry last December that Dolan rejected.
Melo's game sure does have its warts but you cannot blame Anthony for not being Lebron or Bird. He is still a suburb talent... And gets no respect. If anything, INC is his career grade so far. Has little talent around him... Would you pass it to these guys?
We will learn a lot come July about what other players really think about CA. Some point to 2010 as to why we will swing and miss again this Summer... How Lebron and all spurned NY... But that was unique, and not indiciative of whether or not Nyk can attract stars. (1) we had nobody on the roster to entice another stara nd (2) the top 3 dawgs in that f/a already had a plan and that was to head to mia.
This Summer, we have a star player... We have Phil Jax... And we have plenty of cap space, along with a lottery pick. Let's see if players want to come to ny now. Tobias Harrias, Andre Drummond, Dragic, Gasol....
Phil signed Melo, in part, to ensure he had his star... Triangle needs that scoring presence when necessary, and no lock he would replace that soon enough.... But he also wanted to use Melo to lure others to come join in. If Phil cannot convince a few key pieces to sign on to play here, with Melo, i am positive we use the Melo chip in a trade to officially rebuild.
We will not discover this until July... And if we do start to bring in legitimate pieces to build around... We wont know anout Melo being able to win until then. Melo isn't Dirk or Duncan... But even Kobe cant win, or make playoffs, without help.
