Official Trade Rumors Thread

I'm at least waiting until the 2018 trade deadline before thinking about buying him out. If the team surprises and we manage to fight for the 8th seed we should keep him until his contract expires unless of course an offer the Knicks can't refuse comes the Knicks way. As long as Melo is on the team there is the possibility of trading him, buying him out with a full 2 years left on his contract makes no sense to me.

We also have Noah who we might have to stretch this year, we would have 2 guys taking up nearly 30M salary cap space if the Knicks decide to waive him and Melo. Better the Knicks wait to use that buyout on Melo after the Noah situation becomes clearer.

The Knicks are not surprising anyone, we added no one really to a team that was already bad and one of it's main pieces wants out. The teams below are better than us right now a couple making improvements

Hornets
Pistons
Heat
Sixers

We probably should open up cap space by waiving Melo(stretch him) to facilitate trades for this yr of unwanted contracts and possibly get back picks. For the record Noah and Melo are owed the same amount of money so it really doesn't matter which one you stretch. Unless Melo opens up his list then it's not really advantageous to us period. \

I feel it's MORE IMPORTANT for our youth to not be distracted during their developmental yrs I mean come on can we have 1 yr where this isn't the case?

Great News about Melo. Would love to "reunite" him with D'antonidiot.

Also, remember, HOU GM (Morey?) is most aggressive and creative mind out there. He'll find a way to make this work.

Mills should "play dumb".... act like he doesn't have control here (as NYK seeks a GM). Make it incumbent on HOU to present an offer Dolan can't refuse.

HOU should find a team willing to take Noah's contract and get a young player and a future 1st. See if HOU works magic. If not,
"Settle" for 2 of those things.

HOU will be desperate to add Melo (bc Melo and Paul make it likely Wade and Lebron follow in 2018).

Knowing this, Lebron and Gilbert may be desperate too. Competition always helps, and raises Melo's value. Perhaps this forced CLe to part without Tristan Thompson for Melo.

sign and trade rose????? what r we going to get for him???? a box of Kleenex .... after all he's just a sneeze away from another knee injury...

Just read a story online that we can help Rose get more money with a sign and trade to Milwaukee. The story suggested we could get Matthew Dellavedova in return, who is 26 and has 3 years and a little less than 30 million left on his contract. Not sure that makes a ton of sense for us.

NYK should only facilitate another player or team if it means we get a future 1st. Otherwise.... forget it.

Best thing for the Knicks is to sign veterans who wouldn't have a big contract and help the team's chemistry (Rondo). Really no point into not rebuilding. We have Kristaps, Willie, and if he's good, Ntilikina. They're already on there way if they let it.

Not sure if he would come back to NY but Deron Williams is available. He'd be a good fit for what the Knicks want to do and he can still take over a game on occasion.

if we are going to tank... lets tank.... no signing rose/Williams/etc... lets not do it 1/2-ass... lets show the 76er's how real men tank...

lol this is interesting stuff. personally, i don't have a problem with tanking this upcoming season. i'd prefer we wait to see how the first 15 or so games play out before we decide whether or not to wave the tank flag, but nevertheless... you guys know what will happen, right? we could end up with like the 2nd or 3rd worst record in the entire league and we'll STILL end up somehow with the 6th or 7th pick.
you know it's true.

or we don't rid ourselves of Me-Lo, sign rondo or Williams, and squeak into the playoff's... I say let's not take a chance ... lets start waving the tank-flag now (I like that phrase)

What are Y'all talking bout .. We started Waving the TANK-TANK Flag when we made no trades on draft night to get a 2nd first-round pick or trade to lower our cap space to get one decent FA out of the 2017 FA market

The Sacramento Kings have agreed to a three-year, $57 million contract with free agent guard George Hill.
Hill, 31, was considered one of the top free agent point guards on the market, and reportedly had interest from the Nuggets and Lakers. Hill averaged 16.9 points, 4.2 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game last season with the Jazz.

George Hill was the PG we needed for floor leadership ....

well, it definitely looks like that's where we're headed, because these guys haven't done a damn thing since free agency started, except let holiday walk. other than seemingly working the phones to try and get a melo trade done, they haven't really done much of anything at all. yeah, i'd pretty much say that's a solid indication of massive tank attack rolling our way.
tanks down broadway!
good thing i canceled my optimum cable TV service when i did hahahaaaaa. if anybody ever happens to bump into dolan on the street, do me a favor and stick your foot up his butt for me one time? i'll owe you one :D

NYK doesn't have much cap space.... 16 mil? That may change, when Rose leaves and when Melo is dealt.... But, with our limited cap space NYK didn't have a chance in this first and second wave of signings.

Heck, even when we had money and weren't renown for our incompetent.... we couldn't get free agents.

I'm guessing some of these lesser types, Waiters and Young types, who prefer bank over titles.... will wait to see if they can grab some of NY available cash....

But, in reality, Rose and Melo situation hinders NY bc until
They're gone this team
Doesn't have enough cap space to entice anybody halfway decent.

Part of the reason I wanted him waived or bought out because we could've stretched and gain cap relief this offseason. Free Agents are only free when they are free and each offseason produces a certain crop worth going after or those who are even realistic opportunities.

I figured we could've at least used this offseason to get ahead of getting our respect back to making this place an attractive destination...but instead players get a chance to see us tug of war with Melo another yr yet again. I do not want to take back salary based on Melo controlling our pickings. I also wanted his salary off the books so we can facilitate trades for teams with unwanted salary and gain assets that way.

Teams have filled up their rosters now and taking on Melo's salary with kicker is going to be ever more challenging, especially for cap stricken teams like Cavs and Rockets. Cavs are trying to unload Shumpert and possibly others for a pick of some sort..guess why they have lux tax issues and really sketchy assets going forward they need them...a.k.a. they have nothing to offer us. Maybe until 2021...can't trade out of the 1st round in consecutive yrs(Hawks have rights to their 2019 1st). I doubt they come off their 2018 1st and if so you might as well liken it to a high 2nd rounder(very low 20s), especially if you add Melo right and we have to take back trash like Thompson...ummmm no thanks.

If Boston isn't a threat to Cavs then how desperate will the Cavs be to trade for Melo if the East is weaker? Rockets have assets to offer but we're talking about Morey here, he won't give up much and Rockets look like they're going to be pretty good.

But whatever...Knicks now want to wait forever and a day until we get our front office in order, which may be never or hey Ryan Anderson and 2nd rounders here we come.

I don't think it's a good idea to stretch Melo, b/c he would be on books for a few more years. NYK know Melo will opt out next year, so it would be foolish to pay him all those millions to walk.

This is a process.... If they believed a meaningful free agent would've signed with them, a young player, say a GH.... I believe they would've released Melo.... but that wasn't the case.

Mills didn't want to keep Holiday, b/c he would be 30 and eating cap space.

I'm not sure what the free agent landscape looks like in a year or so, but maybe NYK eying a Cousins or something.

I like the 3 guys we're still looking at: rebounder from PHO, the forward from SA, and Waiters.... I would be stoked if we got 2 of them.

But, I think the goal is go all youth.
Don't make mistake Dontoni and Walsh did, signing a bunch of serviceable vets, and win just enough to be on wrong side of lottery.

Go young. Gain experience and hope for the top pick.

Also, I think they believe they have a trade they can pull off.

BOS needs to shed payroll.... Crowder or Smart? PHO might shop Bledsoe....

As a side note...if Melo was waived say on June 30th-July1st teams would've had 48hrs to make a claim on him. I'd like to think for many teams that were under the cap(at least 10) or near it would've claimed him and we would've been relieved of all his salary. If he clears waivers then we'd be on the hook but with stretch provisions in place(would've gained about $15-17mil in cap relief this offseason pushing us close to $30mil total). If he's as good as some Knicks fans still say he is then he'd get claimed by a team for free and we gain all that cap around $38mil(total) or so in extra space.

I believe if he opts out to become a free agent...maybe we get more relief on the stretch, not sure(will look into this)

how do we know that???... he signed here for one reason $$$$... if he remains a knick this year, his value next year will be zilch, so why would opt-out for peanuts, when this knicks would pay him 28m... u think another team is going to pay him that $$$$-

Agreed. Melo is going to opt in for his 27.9 million next season. He will be 34-years-old next offseason, no one is going to sign him for another mega contract at that time.

There's a chance he may not or he could say get a 4yr deal $70mil to guarantee the long term money before he turns 39 and the new age rule takes affect. It still would be an advantage if he were to opt for us I believe. You can't have 2 different NBA contracts in this league so our cap responsibilities would get adjusted(I believe is what I was getting to in my last post)
