Game Thread: New York Knicks at Cleveland Cavaliers - 1/24/22 7PM

Knicks lose by 2.

Thibs played Grimes and Quickley essentially the entire 4th quarter.

Effort was there but that 3 by Garland on the 2nd chance play was more or less the difference late. He looked like he traveled, but that?s how it goes.

Knicks lost by 2

11-21 from FT line.

I don?t see us beating MIA or MIL?. So, still more likely they finish 11th or lower.

Barring a deal, I don?t see them as a bubble team. No 7-10 finish.

Grimes shut down Garland in 4th, and draining 4 threes.

Play the kids more, Thibbs

IQ 1-10 shooting didn?t help. AB/IQ lost their shot

This Game are why online betting is PHONEY & Foolish in the New NBA !!!

No Fournier or Kemba in the lineup for the final shot of the game, a must 3-ball shot in 2 sec

Atlanta has been on a winning streak and are suddenly relevant again to make a top 10 seed. Now it?s 12 teams for 10 spots. Knicks going to need to get hot.

Thibbs doesn?t even play Cam.

Hey, Thibbs? what are you doing?

Why does Evan and Kemba play 20 minutes? They give you nothing on offense or defense?

Maybe NY wins if Cam plays over Evan or Kemba?

NY schedule not good for them? they gonna fade away next 3 weeks?

NY might go 5-15 next 20. More likely that, as opposed to them ?getting hot?

I predict 10 under by March

I think 2-3 is almost wishful thinking. But, we shall see. Let?s start with being competitive in CLE.

If the Knicks pull themselves together to go 2-3 in the next 5 games the Knicks could be consider a decent team.
If Knicks go 3-2 in next 5 games, the Knicks would be a game away from bein a .500 team.
If the Knicks go 4-1 in next 5 games .. the Knicks are a playoff team in the Strong Eastern Conference !!!

Thibbs doesn?t even play Cam.

My issue with him every since he arrived here. I actually advocated bringing him here thinking he would see the obvious strength of this team and adjust but nope he hasn?t and likely won?t

He?s the opposite extreme of D?Antoni

No reason for Cam not to play but he immediately rebuttaled Cam?s aspirations by stating he?d have to ?earn minutes?

Thibs is a world class jerk

Hey, I?m not gonna bash Randle? He?s our best player and only guy other team needs to prepare for. AB/EF/KW/IQ can?t make a shot?.

But Julius was team-worst +\- tonight. We clearly could?ve faired just as well if he played 5-8 less minutes. And if those minutes go to Obi or Grimes or Cam, and if they are even just sightly better? Knicks win by a point instead of losing by a bucket.

On second leg of a back to back? no wonder JR couldn?t close? he didn?t have the energy, having played over 72 minutes last 28 hours

Thibs gave rookie Grimes and 2nd year Quickley a huge opportunity in the 2nd half, including playing the entire 4th quarter. He stuck with Quickley even though he only shot 1 for 10 and probably should have gotten the hook.

I guess I don?t get the Thibs criticism. It seems like everyone just picks something each game they didn?t like and ignores how the rest of the rotation was used.

Thibs has Randle?s minutes down from last season (RJ?s too). Which is what everyone was complaining about last year (too many minutes for those two).

I love Obi, but he can?t pass like Randle. I?m looking forward to watching Cam play, but he can?t rebound like Randle.

So much criticism at Randle, but he?s our most versatile player because he literally does everything on offense (find the open shooter, shoot from 3, attack the rim) and he?s our best rebounder.

Not playing Cam a single minute was foolish, if Reddish could play. The criticism is and continues to be:

Obi gets 15 minutes
Evan and Kemba play too many minutes
Randle 72 minutes last 28 hours
Why couldn?t Cam play more than a total of 5 minutes this 2-game set

And I?m not even crying about the pathetic attempt at a play design the last possession.

No bashing Thibbs or calling for his head? and the message is consistent, is that the kids have too short a leash? while vets can continue to do play uninspiring ball for 3 quarters? Maybe pull the cord earlier?

If IQ or Grimes played 30 instead of 24? maybe we win? Evan and Kemba don?t impact winning much. 72 minutes in 2 games is too much for Randle. 0-2 is quite evident of that ? and probably the poor FT shooting too, for RJ missed 5 tonight after going 7-7 last night.

CLE a top defensive team. Those were tough minutes tonight. This was a winnable game? rotations were key.

Randle might?ve been able to close if he played less minutes first 3 quarters.

I do agree about Randle being best player. Without him? we probably a 17 win team.

I think minutes distribution is hard to view as a math problem since it depends so much on appropriate opportunities to sub.

At some point, we have to live a new reality as Knicks fans where our best 5 guys are our 5 starters. We did this all last year with Payton starting and then not playing in the 2nd half.

If we think our best 5 guys includes Grimes and Quickley and want them to get 30 minutes, let?s just start them at this point.

At some point, Cam needs to play. Does he get Burks? or Fournier?s minutes? Does he get Obi?s minutes? I hope not as far as Obi.

I think Randle and RJ playing 30 to 32 minutes a game is reasonable. Tweaking them down to 28 minutes a game opens up a little time for the other guys, but not much.

Also, keep in mind, no MRob and still no Rose. When those 2 are healthy, they need to play significant minutes.

Front office should be looking to shuffle some bodies out of town before the deadline if this keeps up.

Not having Mitch was huge? If Randle makes the shot, and they win? what?s the narrative then?

Funny thing, since RJ had 24 and Randle 18?. They are 4-1 when both score 20? had Randle hit that shot? 5-1
