Game thread: New York Knicks vs Oklahoma City Thunder 2/14/2022 5:00pm [Game #58]

Thibbs and Rose get another year. Not like there are obvious candidates worth firing them for? if there were?

We need some semblance of continuity?. See if a plan works. But, another disappointing season next year? then, yes, Rose and Thibbs should be canned.

But everybody gets the blame, so firing Thibbs sort of bails out the players and the org.

Everybody is to blame. The onus is on all of them to regroup and return next year ready to take that next step ? be a consistent 45-55 type win team.

But in the long run, taking a step back this year probably for the best. No illusions we were on the right path?. We have lots of work to do.

OKC kids Giddy and Mann killed our guards tonight. Winning games without D-Rose, with our group of Guards, is akin to winning in NFL
With a bottom 5 QB.

For the most part, this season is on Leon Rose.

He re-signed Randle and then made the cardinal sin ? not finding a primary ball handler, to keep ball out of JR?s hands late in games.

He built this back court of Walker and Fournier. 2 huge misses. Your starting PG is probably the 47th best PG in NBA this year. The starting SG was a major swing and miss signing. The guy you passed over is in mix for MVP?

This is a failed vision for a starting backcourt. Say what you will about Thibbs, Randle and RJ? Obi and Mitch? entrusting that Walker/Fourny combo was ACK!

Toss in losing D-Rose for a bulk of games? he was top 10 MVP finalist last season? And Rose did nothing. He didn?t go get a vet to calm the strength of this team ? the second unit.

Then the Knicks compound blunder, trying to force IQ into the D-Rose roll. There went our dynamic 6th man type instant offense.

Knicks stink because Walker, Fournier, D-Rose, IQ and Leon Rose failed this team? this exposed Randle and RJ and their flaws.

Take ball out of their hands requires a competent G this team can depend on? Evan and AB! Bwaaah!

Ergo? Leon Rose takes the hit for this flop.

Think the Knicks could?ve used DeRozan tonight? Over EvanF?

DeMar DeRozan hit 16-of-24 shots and 8-of-8 free throws for 40 points, three rebounds and seven assists in 35 minutes of a 120-109 win over the Spurs on Monday.

See what McCullum is doing lately?
Where are you Leon?

We were talent deficient? that?s why they lost to ATL. Did Leon Rose upgrade the roster?

Rookie McBride should've been playing (12 to 18 min) in all of the Knicks last 10 to 15 games just for the rematch against OKC tandem rookie PG's Tre Mann & Josh Giddey ....
When it comes to the rookies the Knicks franchise ain't SSHUUTT !!!

Coach Thibs & Randle calling all the shots are on the same-page .. Derozan or Fournier were gonna get on that page and have a On & Off game season.

I believe when the Knicks had a 5-1 record are when the team did a 360 flip turn to start the TANK Tank 2021-22 season by having a 2-8 record each month. The Knicks haven't had a 5-1 run since the start of the season.
It's hard on a player (Randle/Barrett) to do a 40 minute game for two seasons in a row .. It made D.Rose have a injury-prone career. Plus the players 4th qtr. performance are not dependable in the midseason games (their to beat up).
Great plan .. Getting rid of both PG (Kemba/D.Rose) early in the season, taking Kemba out the rotation, and giving old-man D.Rose 40 min each game to get injured. Great excuse for the season!

Question ???
Do anyone believe the last season Knicks would be in the same situation they are in now, if they didn't make the trade for D.Rose leadership ???

at this point, Thibs should give back his coach of the year award. In 19-20 and currently in 21-22, Thibs has been complete ass. He was carried by Derrick Rose in 20-21 and Thibs showed his real colors in the playoffs against the Hawks. early 2010 Bulls never reached their potential because Thibs worn out 95% of the roster and cut their careers short. Minnesota and Thibs, how did that go? The energy to fire Thibs is so low, Knicks front office will give him another 2-3 years to prove something in NY. How is that possible when Thibs has an ancient offensive system, slowest pace in the NBA and our highest paid player is the PF version of Russel Westbrook? Knicks entering a new era of doom, next season will be worse than this and the following will be a debacle. Keeping Thibs/Randle only kills this franchise. We know why though, Dolan seeks no success with NY and he'll settle for this as long as idiots buy TICKETS to MSG, he doesn't give a ****.

Boycott the Knicks until they commit to building a contender, it's been too long.

The thing that bothers me the most is that we still routinely have plays where our guys seem confused playing with each other. There was a sequence in the 1st half where twice in a minute a guy off the Thunder?s bench wasn?t picked up until he was already dunking the ball.

That isn?t a starter or bench issue. That?s a basic basketball issue. Regardless of who is on the court, guys need to have their eyes up to pick up a guy jogging his way directly to the hoop uncovered.

We had a play in the 2nd half where Grimes stole the ball and then took a heat check 3 before any other guys ran up the court. Why? This team just makes weird plays.

Last night an indictment on Thibbs and Rose, for our motley crew of vets didn?t have energy to compete against young, backup guards for OKC.

It?s like if Grimes and McBride went out and ripped up Thunder.

I would trade RJ, Obi, IQ for Giddy? too bad we cant bring in talent.

Knicks cancelled practice today? why?

NYD - Bondy

?We just gotta fight. That?s it,? Thibodeau said when asked about the mood of his team. ?When you get into where we are, you gotta fight. That?s our only option.?

Six men have guided this franchise in the last seven years. SIX COACHES IN SEVEN YEARS. None lasted more than two seasons. Of course, only one has a winning record ? Thibodeau ? but that mark is in serious jeopardy because of this freefall into the abyss.
The last week was a disaster for Thibodeau, who, only nine months ago, was the toast of NYC after squeezing champagne out of an onion of a roster.
Now he?s facing an All-Star break with the weight of a collapsing team and Wednesday night?s showdown against the Nets looming as potentially significant for the confidence in the coach.

The front office, meanwhile, supposedly in lockstep with Thibodeau, has left its coach twisting in the wind during this downturn, distancing themselves from the public while seated some 13 rows from the MSG court and operating as if the roster doesn?t require much tinkering. The unholy alliance between CAA and MSG, forged in earnest over a decade ago during the pursuit of LeBron James, hasn?t exactly produced success and superstars for the Knicks.

Twelve years later, we?re still awaiting the payoff.

But as Thibodeau and his players flounder without reinforcements, the bevy of basketball operations executives, led by former CAA agents Leon Rose and William Wesley, remain silent. Nothing about the lack of movement at the trade deadline. Nothing about the failed 2021 free agency. Nothing about dealing a first-round pick for a player (Cam Reddish) who can?t get playing time. Nothing about the plan for Mitchell Robinson?s contract. Nothing about Kemba Walker?s descension. Nothing about the concerns of too many voices in the front office (they?re actually adding another in Gersson Rosas). Nothing about Julius Randle?s issues with the fanbase. Nothing about Immanuel Quickley?s sophomore slump. Nothing about the confusing direction. Nothing about supporting Tom Thibodeau, who is operating in an environment not known for patience with its coaches.

Knicks are what? 3-12 last 15?

Check out 9 games after ASB. Second toughest in NBA. Chances are, 1-8 is a long shot?

They could be what then? 4-21 in a 25 game stretch? Yikes!

Something worth noting. Down by 3 at the end of OT, the play went to Quickley who got a good look from 3 but missed.

Quickley is in the midst of an awful shooting slump. The team is trying to stay with him, but it?s not working.

Team is in a bad place. Kemba can only play well occasionally, Quickley is in a terrible sophomore slump, Rose is injured, and Burks isn?t a PG. We?re going against teams with rookies running the point better than anything we?ve seen in years.

Remember 2 months ago when D-Rose went out and said he wants to see McBride get a chance?

They went 3-12 with AB as the makeshift PG? How bad could it be with McBride? 2-13?

But, that?s the issue right there? KNicks don?t have Guards? and this means their Forwards have to dominate the ball.

Yeah, I guess couldn?t hurt giving McBride some minutes but Thibs doesn?t want to abandon Quickley who still has tremendous upside. He already tried pulling Kemba from the rotation and got roasted for it.

Biggest mistake coaches do with young players is asking to do things they aren?t accustomed doing?

IQ was fantastic doing what we asked him to do last year? be instant offense. Go score?

Instead of bringing him along, slowly building my confidence?. We asked him to be something he?s not ready to be yet.

So, by losing D-Rose, we lost Iq too?.

Stupid?

Either go get a vet to run PG for second unit or ask McBride or AB to do it. Asking Iq proves to be a disaster?. We lost 12/15, IQ shooing about 6% in 2022?.

At the start of the Knicks 2021-22 preseason games where coach Thibs gave all the starters 30 minutes or more in each preseason game, the Knicks starters (Kemba, RJ, Evan, Randle, Sims) actually played park street-ball without any coaches plays in their offense throughout the preseason games.
And now, after 58 regular season games the Knicks starters are playing the same-way ..
No coaches plays on offense, and no coach plan on defense, just one on one B.ball.

And I recall last night when rookie Grimes stole the ball and ran his own fast break to shoot a 3-ball. Well, back in the Daze in the NBA a rookie would never do that, and if a veteran player did that and his name wasn't Bird, or Magic, or MJ, he would've been bench or traded. Ask Ainge & Mark Jackson!

A winning NBA head coach would have demanded a trade for a PG from the Knicks FO in November when the coach had to take the starter PG Kemba out of the rotation. Then a couple weeks later the backup PG D.Rose goes down with a injury that need surgery. The winning NBA head coach would start screaming to the media on the need for a PG every day after the team went on a 2-8 skid in their last 10 games without Kemba & D.Rose in the rotation.
Plus a winning head coach would've increase the minutes of playing time to the bench combo-guard Quickley without Kemba & D.Rose in the rotation, instead of decreasing Quickley's minutes on the court each game.
And a winning NBA head coach would've taken advantage of mentoring a pass-first defensive rookie PG McBride (Charley Ward) throughout the season with steady playing time.

Last season when the Knicks record was 8-11, the new head-coach had the Knicks FO trade for his ex-player PG-D.Rose leadership when the Knicks had four PG on the roster (Payton, Rivers, Smith, and Frank). I guess this season wasn't as important as last season.

At the start of Dec. the Knicks first ten games were 2-8. Their 11th game in Dec. rookie PG-McBride gave the Knicks 9 Dimes for a 116-103 win over the Rockets. McBride haven't seen any playing time since.
Yesterday game coaching and substitution and minutes has been going on for the last 2 months ....
Five players minutes in a overtime loss ....
1) Cam gets 7min
2) Obi gets 8min
3) McBride gets 0min
4) Sims gets 0min
5) Quickley get 14min playing out of position

Wsup Mafra .... What part of Thibs & Randle TANKING did u miss in the Knicks last 15 games (3-12) ???
It's been so obvious! Even the Knicks front office (Leon/Perry) are aware and down with the TANKING.
The Knicks FO traded for SF Cam Reddish a couple weeks after D.Rose surgery says he will be out for 2 months. And coach Dr. Thibs put Kemba on medical restriction.
Two vet PG down, and Quickley's minutes get reduce to half, plus the rookie PG has been taking out the rotation .... All spells TANKING !!!!

Marc Berman
@NYPost_Berman
RJ Barrett out until after the All-Star Break as he needs more time after ankle sprain caused by being left in the game by Tom Thibodeau with 18 seconds left. Nerlens Noel also out with his usual knee soreness. RJ didn't miss a game all last season. This will be his 4th straight.
