I guarantee Mills will NOT be able to get Smart, Bradley, or Crowder. I guarantee it.

Indy should be kicking themselves:

The Jazz are reportedly "willing to engage" with the Celtics involving a sign-and-trade for Gordon Hayward, assuming Hayward would agree to such a deal.
Boston has discussed deals involving Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder and/or Marcus Smart, according to recent reports, because they need to shed salaries to clear room for Hayward's max contract. It's unclear whether this sign-and-trade scenario has any momentum, especially since Boston should have numerous suitors for their talented young wing players.

I was thinking about HOU-NYK-BOS swap.

Ainge needs to shed a few contracts and would love to prevent CLE improving.

BOS could use a shooter, so Ryno and Bradley to somrplacr, Melo to CLE, Rozier, Smart, Crowder to NY.... we would probably have to surrender 2019 first tho.

Something based on this sort of deal....

Seems like POR or BOS only way to make a Melo deal a reality to CLE or HOU.

Hopefully Ainge and morey do the work for Mills.

Still.... Smart and crowder would be great for KP, Frank, WHG!

...and somewhere Mills is staring at an index card that has the words "young", "good", and "cheap" on it and not talking to anybody about anything.

Lol.... man, imagine trading Melo for Crowder and Smart; signing Alan Williams and Jonathan Simmons. That's a playoff team folks.. Of course, it won't happen. Bc we are the NYK.

Still, BOS has 2 days to deal Smart (well, to clear up space) and Morey is creative.... so, we can dream.

Looks like it's going to be Crowder who gets sacrificed...supposedly he was uncomfortable last yr with the idea of Hayward coming there, especially when Jazz played them.

According to Ian Begley of ESPN, the Celtics contacted the Knicks about a potential Marcus Smart trade.

It's no secret that the Celtics have been shopping Smart, Avery Bradley and Jae Crowder, as they would likely need to move at least one of those contracts to clear enough space to sign Gordon Hayward. The Knicks are just one of several teams that the Celtics reached out to, but their interest in the defensive-minded guard is unclear at this point. Begley adds that the Celtics would likely ask for Willy Hernangomez or a draft pick in return, but that's a steep price for a rebuilding team.

(I would surrender my 2020 1st, but that's probably it)

The Knicks have shown interest in trading for Celtics' G Marcus Smart, per NY Post's Marc Berman.

With the Celtics trying to clear cap space from Gordon Hayward, they have been attempting to move Smart who would be a $4.5 million hit this season. On the other hand, the Knicks are looking to fill the $15 million cap room they will have once PG Derrick Rose hold is off the books.

Smart would fit the two criteria the Knicks have been in search for -- young, defensive-minded players. Standing at 6-foot-4, the 23-year-old guard doesn't back down to a challenge, including Kristaps Porzingis who has nearly a foot on him.

He guarded the Knicks' star forward last season, and did an exceptional job. It lead Celtics' head coach Brad Stevens to say it was "kinda crazy," and noted his want for a challenge.

Smart averaged 10.6 points, 4.4 assists, and 3.9 rebounds last season while averaging 1.6 steals per game. He is set to be a restricted free agent following the 2017-2018 season.

Phil Jackson, before he was fired, and coach Jeff Hornacek each said the Knicks were attempting to bring better defenders into the fold. Smart certainly qualifies. They also are trying to add young players to the roster and Smart, 23, fits into their age frame.

Smart?s defense and 3-point shooting are deemed better than his playmaking abilities, so he doesn?t fall into the category of being the veteran point-guard mentor for French lottery pick Frank Ntilikina.

While we can dream about a starting backcourt of Rondo and Smart.... we all know it's not happening.

Ainge cherishes every asset and acts as if each piece is Kobe or MJ. Even tho he knows he has 48 hrs to deal Smart, and fact he's a RFA next summer..... he's probably hoping front office chaos is an opportunity for BOS.

I imagine BOS asked for WHG and our 2018 1st.... in other words, the same sort of deal they said NYK was ridiculous for asking for KP he's asking for Smart.

Still, BOS has to move in....

You got it Maf....Ainge gave our medicine right back :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

So is Ainge really serious of moving assets or is this gamesmanship? I say it's more so the latter, we know Cs have to move an asset or 2. Once again another reason Phil shouldn't have done what he did. It just sets a bad tone for how teams approach us when dealing(e.g. Rockets offering Aderson for Melo).

There's no need to be upset over this either, it is what it is. We're holding on to WHG obviously

you right .. Ainge is not giving up Smart .. Smart has been one of the Celtricks best win-win players on the roster .. Smart's high B.ball IQ are the reason they turned down drafting Fultz, plus the dynamics of Smart playing 3 position well give coach Brad Stevens the advantage of substituting Smart as Isaiah or Bradley backup.
Myself .. I wouldn't even trade Smart's great athleticism and 2-way service for Haywood. Why?
Smart defensive effort has gave the Celtics STOPS in every crunch-time situation last season.

If we were able to get Smart from Boston .. I would quickly give Chauncey Billups $5M per to be our GM, plus Fire Horn, and give a $20M contract to Mark Jackson for 4 yrs to be our Head-coach. Plus sign Rondo.
I would start the rebuilding of the new winning Knicks in the 2017-18 season having .. Rondo/Smart/Nitty/Dotson/Quinn/WHG/ KP/ and Noah .. these 8 rotation Knicks players i would give a season to get on the same-page, plus look to get a young athletic SF to put in the rotation with them before the trading deadline.

Phil Jackson, before he was fired, and coach Jeff Hornacek each said the Knicks were attempting to bring better defenders into the fold.

Phil/Mill/Horn are all talk and no action!
Phil n Mills received a Grade of F (failure) in our past 3 offseason transactions .. the two were all talk and did nothing on draft night again.
And head coach Horn first season did no change from Rambis foolishness nor did Horn add any concept of winning games by adding defense into the mix. The reason Horn should have been Fired at the end of the season were the poor non-development of the five rookies, and the two 2nd season players showed no improvement in their talent or communication with teammates.

Rondo and Smart are the perfect compliment to WHG and KP. Plus, all the young players in ChI, in their exit interview, raved about how instrumental Rondo was working with them.

Then add a Alan williams or a Justin Simmons and NYK might sneak in as a 6-8 seed.

Rondo
Smart
Simmons
KP
Noah

WHG, Dotson, Baker, Frank, LT and KOQ....

It's a start.

For Smart I would give up a 2020 1st (and maybe even a 2019). I can't deal next year's first tho.

I would just sign Smart as a free agent, if it came to that.

The trade makes sense for several reasons:

I feel like the only way a trade of Melo happens is if POR or BOS get involved as the third team, and HOU would be the engineer bc of Morey.

POR has a bunch of redundant players making silly dollars. The guy a C from DEN and have 2 great guards.... they could use a stretch 4 like RYNO, and they are in win-now mode.

For NYK, they get rid of Melo and add 2 young players (and probably a future 1st for taking back "bad" contracts.

HOU gets Melo.
