Sam Smith and Mark Berman article hit pay dirt

Another unsupported generality

D'Antoni's teams were always top 10 in defense....not an easy thing to do when you have to hide Nash's defensive deficiencies. Amare' isn't exactly a stopper either. What do you suppose made them a good defensive team (WHICH THEY WERE)? I have an idea.....uh....maybe the coaching staff? Jesus, people are like sheep. One writer writes something and all the zombies except it as truth. Fast paced, high scoring games don't equate to bad defense.

Your joking on the defense right....a team shooting 90 to a 100 shots per game is running their oponents into aghausted players on both sides of the court. That is why coach Jax and coach Pop defensive-pressure in the first half of the game stopped Phoenix each season (except when Tim Thomas hit that last second 3-ball on an uncompetitive Lakers team.).

The only decent moves Walsh & Dantoni added to this Knick team were:
1) Duhon
2) Harrington
3) Wilcox

Duhon is a pass-first PG inwhich (ending-contract) Marbury & Nate needed in the backcourt to perform at a top level.....it's simular to having a guard tandem of "Billups & Allan Iverson" together to combine for 35 points and 15 assist. Signing Duhon was a wise move to let Duhon get one year experience watching and playing with Marbury.

Harrington decision-making is just as bad as Crawful however, Harrington is a scoring foward that performs without the ball....Crawful leading the point and calling out plays has been a disaster since day one of becomming a Knick to the point of being pure poison on this Knick team. He needed to be the first player traded off this Knick team the last 3 seasons.

Wilcox athleticism and strongbody to endure an 82 game season as a bigman has showed so much potential that the clarity of why coach Baron Scott wanted to trade for him using Tyson Chandler as the chip only confirms having the right coaching-staff and trainers for Wilcox will produce the bigman role-player that add the little things that make the team a success.
Trading ending contract Malik Rose whom probably was the best veteran bigman coach in the Knicks practice session for Wilcox is an equal trade.

The rest of the new Added players to this roster from Gallo to Larry Hughes (draftnight to deadline) has been an expensive waste of time to the owner, coaching-staff, teammates, and fans.

Trading Zach Randolph and waiving Marbury was meaningless and very expensive on this Knick organization (2 seasons of injury Mobley $18.5M and $26.5M to cancer Larry Hughes) which showed the incompetence of Walsh & Dantoni (management & coach) when met with a controversal-player inwhich Marbury and Zach showed no signs of being a problem with the new regime....It only makes you think about Walsh & Dantoni's past (Jermain O'Neal and Steven Jackson, Kurt Thomas and Shaq).

Well for next year, i cannot forsee us getting anyone decent. I think a 3pt specialist would be helpful and a defensive minded center in the draft. I would keep Wilcox at MLE and trade Lee. I also would try to lock up Wilson Chandler long term. He's not great, but he provides swing man stats (15-5-5 type stats) and a lil bit of defense for a MLE price in the future.

Oh yah, Marion used to be a defensive Beast....probably why the Suns were able to hide Defensive deficiencies.

What Now?

Reason why the 2010 plan will most likely fail:

This is why this is the year that we need to BUY DRAFT PICKS...take advantage of small maret teams who can't afford to be over the cap and take their diminished value.

A lot of teams are trading out of the top 10.

Obtain as many prospects as possible.
For team value.
and for trade value.
Plus, improvement of the roster.

I am in agreement with Metro on these points. Chandler is valuable and his contract will not interfere with 2010 cap space. Hopefully Gallinari will show some value next year, but, in any event, his contract will not interfere with 2010 cap space.

Nate and Lee are both good young players, but they have limitations and are looking for contracts that will interfere with 2010 cap space.

Curry does not have a future with the Knicks and, unless he gets off his fat butt, he is not likely to have much future in the NBA. And what is this mysterious knee njury? His $11M plus 2010 contract certainly interferes with 2010 cap space. I think we are stuck with him and his contract through 2010. Our only hope is that for once he gets into shape in the off season and plays well enough to be tradeable before next year's trade deadline.

But we will have to pull the triggers on Nate and Lee before we will know for sure whether Curry will be on the 2010-11 payroll. I think the Knicks have to move forward assuming that Curry's contract will be a 2010-11 burden.

If the Knicks truly want to maximize 2010 cap space, I think Jeffries is movable. There are bad contracts out there that do not extend beyond next season. Examples are Blount (Miami) at $7.9M, Cardinale (Minnesota) at $6.75M, Stackhouse (Dallas) at $7.25M, and Kenny Thomas (Sacramento) at $8.77M. Next year Jeffries will make about $6.5M and the year after about $6.9M. A team could jettison a bad 2009 contract for Jeffries at an average additional cost of about $3.5M a year. That is a reasonable price for Jeffries. For example, Minnesota gets rid of Cardinale and his $6.75M 2009 contract and gets Jeffries for two years at a total of about $13.4M. Granted Cardinale would not be of much use to us, but Dolan has never been afraid of spending money, the Knicks can buy Cardinale out. This would cost money, but we would add to 2010 cap space.

Of all the dumb things you say....

This is one of the dumbest.

"Your joking on the defense right....a team shooting 90 to a 100 shots per game is running their oponents into aghausted players on both sides of the court. If you watched half as much ball as you say you do, you know that was a BS statement. Phoenix got screwed different times by the refs and everybody knows it...except, apparently, you. Saying his style runs guys into exhaustion is also one of many dumb statements. If that was true, why would ANY player want to play for him? The truth is that almost ALL players want to play under him. I have NEVER heard any player say he didn't want to play for him, but plenty have said they do.

Bottom line is you don't have a clue what you are talking about and every time you post one of your hate filled diatribes, more find that out. I like you and respect you but man, you are out in left field a lot this year.

donnie aint the only one with a pipe dream.who the **** else do you want running the show?

some of you wanna act like you know more than the people that ACTUALLY get paid to do what you think you know.
bottom line is, alot of these players needed to bounce.you think they have to ambition to be great? to win championships? no.why the **** did crapburied want to leave minnesotta?

it's amazing to me how many self reightous losers are still fans of this team.
its been one ****ing year.give it time or don't be a fan at all.

BERMAN IS A FAG WITH A CRAPBURIED CRUSH.ANYTHING HE WRITES BELONGS IN THE GARBAGE.

I've been saying this since mid season that it is time to let go of the Lebron/D Wade 2010 pipe dream and take other methods of rebuilding our team.

I think we should trade our expiring contracts to teams who have players who will make us better, but have a better shot in the 2010 market than us.

Again we have 40 million in expiring contracts (49 if Cutino Mobley's can be traded like The Mavs did Van Horn and The Blazers considered doing with Raef Lefrentz) this season and only 22 million in cap space next season. It is simple mathematics fellas!

Did The Celtics wait to get under the cap to create a championship team?

Cap + Talented Team= Landing a mega star

Cap + Garbage Team = Player who only cares about a check (ie. Tracy McGrady).

I agree with the article for sure. Why would anybody want to come play in NY with fickle fans and overblown expectations when the team is garbage. Its a revolving door of players, but basketball is a team sport. It takes most of a season for guys to learn to play together, yet the Knicks add and subtract guys just to stay relevant. I feel good about the cap room we should have in 2010, but as had been said by many of us before, who would want to come play here. Just because its NY???

3 reasons why we always choke

Whoever writes these articles is an impatient fool.

I think every Knick fan expected 30-40 wins....thats what we expected and unfortunetly we got 31 or possibly 32 if they win on Wednesday....THATS WHAT WAS EXPECTED.....

First off Mike D had a love affair with Q Rich that finally broke off when Mike D realized that Q RIch is the most inconsistent shooter in NBA history...

Reasons why we choked after the allstar break....

1)Q Rich's jock shots in the first half of the year cost us a handful of games. His job was being our main shooter and he failed almost 99% of the time....he had a few amazing games and blew every other.

2) The absolute poor post defense our team has is the main reason why we are not a playoff team....Harrington, Lee, Jeffries...the main big men can't block a shot for their lives...especially no D Lee

3) The Knicks have no star player to go to in crunch time...Harrington was clutch this year but was also the dumbest crunch time player in Knicks history by hanging on the rim twice and costing two games.

There you go Knick fans....No post defense to stop the drive and no crunch time player to go to cost us enough games to not be in that 8th seed that we could have easily gotten into this year.

Make the adjustments Donnie!

I did not see Shawn Marion putting up any red flags in Miami that he wanted to come to NY (like Diaw did in Charlotte)....the majority of NBA players dont talk bad about any coach (Spewell did'nt....choke-hold LOL)....Stocton, Kidd, Nash, and Parker, has been the fastest, speedest, run n gun transition guards since Nate Archibald and Pete Maverach.
Dantoni having fast running players like Joe Johnson, Diaw, Marion, and Amare on his roster....it only takes one of those 6.6 and taller players to keep up with Nash on a fast break.

Dont act like u dont remember last year when everybody was talking about getting "Dantoni type-players".
I'm going to put up a post on the 9 players we have under contract this offseason.

To have a 2010 plan....and not understand that it can be used two ways incase u may need a plan B to fall back on is not bright.
