The 2015 NBA Draft

Apparently the Nuggets are willing to unload Gallinari?

Could the Knicks do a Gallinari + Nurkic + 7th for Calderon + 4th?

If Nurkic is healthy, that'd give us a center who can immediately contribute, a good scorer off the bench (we're not starting Gallo unless we put Melo at PF which would give us the worst defensive frontcourt in basketball), and a good guard (Hezonja, probably), all the while clearing up cap space for next year. For the Nuggets, it guarantees them Mudiay or Porzingis.

?/Galloway
Hardaway Jr./Hezonja
Melo/Gallinari
? (Monroe?)
Nurkic

Would be a solid starting 5. PG situation isn't great but other than that, it could work out

Phil Jackson on Drafting player at pick 4 Profile....

“In this day and age, it takes a little bit longer and we have to be a little bit more patient but at four we think we’ve got a player that’s going to be really good,” Jackson said.

Jackson was asked by MSG Networks' Al Trautwig if the Knicks' fans could be surprised by what happens on Thursday night.

“Yeah. Well, there can be surprises all the way from 6-foot to 7-foot that would be major surprises,” Jackson said. “But we’re trying to take what we feel is the best potential pick, what will help this ball club out the most and go from there.”

This may come down to a potential trade with Denver but Hezonja was #2 on my Big Board for us.

I hope the Knicks are all over this kid scouting him during his games over there, watching games has to give you a better look than solo workouts.

Word on the street is, if we stay at 4, the Knicks have narrowed their choices down to 3 names. We can all speculate, but obviously this is still such a fluid situation... Sounds like we're nit even sure ourselvrs who we truly covey.

Mudiay
Kaminsky
Lyles

or

Mudiay
Herzonia
Pirzingis

or

Mudiay
Winslow
Herzonia or Pirzingis (have we ruled out a Euro already)

They better have an idea about THE GUY because all of them are going to be there at 4. There may be a last minute trade down offer but they better not be flipping a coin when they're on the clock to pick the guy.

I almost can't imagine this draft without someone in the top 6 trading down, maybe multiple teams. The Lakers could move #2 to get Cousins, the Knicks could trade down from #4 because we just might not want anyone other than Towns/Okafor/Russell it seems, and the Sixers could trade down because that's the kind of thing they seem to do.

Less than 7 hours until the action starts. I'll be at work, but I hope to keep track of things online as they happen. Let's go Knicks! Let's do something good tonight for once on draft night.

Chris Broussard just now reporting on ESPN that PJ's '3 names' are Porzingis, Trey Lyles, and Frank Kaminsky. If the 2nd or 3rd guy get picked without trading down first then the Knicks will get booed out of the building tonight. Probably will get booed for Porzingis too, but he belongs at #4. If report is true, clearly we are not planning on leaving tonight without a big man who is either uber talented or could fit the triangle.

Broussard technically mentions 6 guys including Mudiay hovering. So 6 in total he put in a tweet which means HE KNOWS JACK SQUAT! I was gonna update here but when I saw it, I said naaahhhh he's clueless as usual.

Then you have this tweet...

To go Euro or not to go Euro, that is the question. If Towns-Okafor-Russell go 1-2-3, KNICKS mustdecide: Emmanual Mudiay or Justise Winslow? The 7”1’ Latvian sniper, Kristaps Pirzingis? Or the flamboyant, (super)Mario Hezonja. Word on the street…Philand Co. have narrowed it to3 names. Obviously, this suggests things are influx, they don’t have 1 clear favorite, or want to trade down (dump Calderon +pick up a future 1[SUP]st[/SUP] rounder + snag a cheap rotation vet or a youngbudding star). So, if they remain at 4,this suggests WCS, Kaminsky, Lyles, Payne off the table. Which of the aforementioned4 is crossed off the list? Hmm….
If it were me, and since I’m not privy to the inside intelthey possess, I would opt for the PG. Our best PG in the last 20 years… won aHeisman trophy in college. Did you just puke in your mouth? After having MarcJackson, Rod Strickland, Ron Harper, MO Cheeks… we would have laughed and criedin the ‘90s if you went back in time and pointed that tidbit out to us! Well, we did have 1 year of Jason Kidd…
K-Pirz is a gym rat; he can shoot; he speaks the language,is already the same size as Rudy Gobert. He’ll be a good player, at the least…maybe an all-star….maybe afranchise player. Hard to pass on thistalent for a role player like Lyles, Winslow or Kaminsky. But, Phil and Melo could care less about2019. I think PHI would serve themselves well by taking Pirzingis. Don’t impede Noel’s growth by clogging thelane with Okafor (if Russel goes 2[SUP]nd[/SUP]). Noel is the centerpiece, Embid brought aroundslowly, while Pirzingis is free to develop at his own pace. Pirzingis-Noel-Embid would all complement oneanother.
I do believe tho that fate will finally kiss us Knick fans. Towns goes first; LAK take Russell, and tradehim and Randle to SAC for Cousins. PHI takes Mudiay or Pirzingis or Hezonja.KNICKS LAND OKAFOR!
If not, then I think I would goMudiay-Hezonja-Pirzingis. 1 of these 3. ONLY, after trying to trade down an grabLyles or Kamisky…
Why I wouldn’t be scared of Pirzingis or Hezonja? Well, if I did my homework and my scoutssigned off… And it appears ALL THE SCOUTS say that these 2 are legit prospects, who have performed well in the world’s second best pro league… for whateverthat’s worth. Hard to pass on a 6”8’or a7’1’ athletic freak who can drain 3s all day…
A Walk Down Memory Lane:
It’s draft day… 30 years ago we hit the jackpot andinstantly became relevant. Unfortunately, for NYK fans, this is also the day werecall names like Frederic Weiss…
AH, the frail frenchy-man, whose lone video highlight washaving Vinsanity leapfrog his 7-ft self for a sega-genesis-esque NBA Jam slam. The man taken 1 pick ahead of the local, tough-as-nails Artest. If only the Knicks took one of the otherforeign ‘flavors of the year’ in that draft (Andrei Kirilenko or Manu Giniboli). The Weiss-is-not-nice pick had such a stink thatthe residual distaste directly contributed to the decision the following year, when in the second round the Knicks took the St. John’s product (Lavor Postell),toappease and redeem the franchise, overthe Ohio St kid, Michael Redd.
We took a foreign player in the lottery, the Brazilian, Mr. Nene, but then dealt himfor Antonio Mcdoesn’t-do-much-to-help-us (he played 18 games for NYK). Wepassed on Amar’e in that same draft. BUT, we went Euro in the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP]round, the immortal Milos Vujanic (the PG who led the league in scoring, theEuroleague that is). Yes, the Knickssomehow found the only human in the war-torn Serbia who preferred stayingthere, over coming to NY and making a cool million. The prospect taken rightbefore Vujanic… Mr. Carlos Boozer; another foreigner went later in the secondround, Mr. Luis Scola, after Matt Barnes. Obviously, Milos never materialized into Petrovic. He wasn’t even Sasha Vujacic.
The next draft, after the Mcd’uh & Vujanic boners, was thebest draft in recent memory… The one featuring the now infamous Darko over Melodecision… Lebron, Wade, Bosh… Knick fansburied this in the dark recesses of their mind… Why? We selected Michael “how” SWEETneywith the 9[SUP]th[/SUP] pick (ahead of 2 foreigners – a Frenchman, Boris Diaw, and a Brazilian, Leandro Barbosa).
WAIT a minute… NYK were so close to having Amar’e, Diaw,& Barbosa? Didn’t they trio helpPHO?
Anyway, and also… who could forget that most hilariousmoment of that 2003 draft, when NYK took a Polish kid with the 30[SUP]th[/SUP]pick (Maciej Lampe). Wasn’t he sittingin the crowd or something, and stumbled walking up to the podium? In his entireillustrious career, Lampe had 85 fouls & 35 turnovers to 215 points and 142rebounds. Not exactly a diamond in the rough. However, a Euro went later (ZazaPachulia), along with Matt Boner, Keith Bogans, MO Williams, & KyleKorver. At least we were sparredcheering for a Chinese C, Xue Yuyang (no relation to Yao Ming).
Thank G-d we drafted Trevor Ariza instead of Sergee Lishoukor Vassilis Spanoulis or Christian Drejer. In this draft, TOR took Rafael Araujoover Andre Iguodala (not a foreigner)and Andris Biedrins (a foreigner) and AlJefferson (definitely not a foreigner), as well as Josh & J.R. Smith.
The next draft, we took Channing Frye over the local NJproduct, Andrew Bynum; then, ORL took Fran Vazquez (from Spain) over the HSkid, Danny Granger. Later on this draft, at least the Knicks took David Leeover Roko Ukic, Martynas Andriuškevičius, Erazem Lorbek, Micka?l Gelabale, and Axel Hervelle, who were foreigners, who all went ahead ofanother foreigner (M.Gortat).[SUP] [/SUP]
The next draft, Bargnani (who Knicks would later send a 20161[SUP]st[/SUP] rounder for) went ahead of LaMarcus Aldridge, from Dallas. Inthis same draft, NYK took Renaldo Balkman 1 pick ahead of Rajon Rondo (and afew picks later, Kyle Lowry, the Raptor whom the Knicks should have sent their2016 1[SUP]st[/SUP] rounder for, was taken). Later on, ORL took the kid fromIsrael (Lior Eliyahu) over Paul Milsap.
The next year, MIL jumped at drafting Yi Jianlian… J-Noah wentto CHI a few picks later. In this draft, thankfully, we drafted Wislon Chandlerover the Spaniard(Rudy Fernandez). Later on, in the second round, ORL took achap named Petteri Koponen, MIA took Stanko Barac and the Lakers took Sun Yue…3nobody, never-were duds were taken aheadof another Spaniard, Marc Gasol.
The next year, NYK took Danillo over B-Lopez & RoyHIbbert. Meh, in a pass-fail scenario, we advance…
The next draft broke our hearts… like this year, had we losta few more games… Anyway, Thanks to MIN… for taking 2 PGs (Rubio & Flynn)ahead of Steph Curry… we almost had him. 1 pick ahead of us he wenteth to GSW. NEWMAN! We got Jordan Hill… the next pick… and withthe next pick after us, TOR snagged Demar DeRozan, and then Brandon Jennings (another HS kid whowent overseas) goes to MIL….other notable PGs we passed on: Jrue Holiday,TyLawson, Jeff Teague, Darren Collison, Patrick Beverley)… Sergio Llull was takenahead of DeJuan Blair & Danny Green in the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] round of thisdraft.
The draft where K-Irving went 1[SUP]st[/SUP], WAS grabbedJan Vesely and SAC took Bismack Biyombo ahead of the other splash bro (KlayThompson). However, in this draft, NYK took I.Shum-the-chump over NikolaMirotic (and Kenneth Faired), oh…and Jimmy Butler (whom CHI is glad they tookinstead of Bojan Bogdanovic).
Recently, the Jazz took Kelly Olynyk and Shabazz Muhammad (2USA kids) over the Greek Freak (Giannis Antetokounmpo).
In 2013, we took Tim Hardaway Jr over a French center, RudyGobert (who looks dominant).
Last year, Jusef Nurkic went 16[SUP]th[/SUP]. We might tradeour pick to DEN for their 7[SUP]th[/SUP] selection… and this young foreign C.Take Frank the Tank or the Horace Grant clone (Lyles).
In the past, we took John Wallace and Walter McCarty over Zydrunas Ilgaukus; Before the Weiss disaster, LACtook the Candyman, Michael Olowokandi , over DIRK; and even his highness, MJ,grabbed Kwame Brown ahead of Pau Gasol. Yikes, and Ouch! In the Pau draft, BOStook Joseph Forte, ORL took Jeryl Sasser, and HOU took Brandon Armstrong (allAmerican boys) ahead of a French PG (Tony Parker).
It really is a hit or miss, no. Being the cynical NYK fans we are… If we takePirzingis, he’ll be a bust… if we pass on him, we’re positive he’ll be the bestPF in NBA history!

I don't know. All he said to preface it was if Okafor/Russell gone, then we want Porzingis, Lyles, or Kaminsky. Clearly, we'll take Okafor or Russell if they fall to us, but that still seems unlikely. He threw Mudiay in there at the end, but whatever, Mudiay as our pick seems highly unlikely right now and Mudiay looks like the guy who may slide out of the top 5. I have a funny feeling we are leaving the draft tonight with Porzingis, Lyles, or Kaminsky.

No question there may a guy we go with not be expected. We like several guys but maybe not at 4...even at this late stage in the game we want to trade down. I think what's skewing things slightly is Phil being overly concerned with triangle fit and the lack of assets we have moving forward. I said early if it's not Mudiay then it's in our best interest to move down(leave the triangle factor out of it), dumping Calderon while we're at it. Although I don't see the trade down partners

What I don't like hearing is that it's highly unlikely we trade the pick and that we could be possibly speaking to teams like Phx and Denver to trade down for prospects who more than likely don't fit triangle.

As of now Wojo reports this

I kind of think we could be over thinking this as a front office.

I have no problem with them picking Zingis at 4 but if PJ picks Lyles or Kaminsky at 4 and in the aftermath they ask PJ why did you pick him at 4 and he says "We think he's the perfect fit for what we're running here in NY", I'm going to go ape s**t.

Perfect example of Chris Broussard using his so called Condiments

Are you guys confused because I am

Chris B is an idiot. How can anyone take him seriously? He tweets that NYK has narrowed choice at 4 o 3 guys (Pirz, Kaminsky, Lyles), but then adds the addendum: under those same circumstances, NYK would consider Mudiay. Did he take remedial math? Just say we have 4 choices.

WHAT IF... SAC-LAK cannot reach an agreement. What if, LAK discover SAC doesn't want to deal Cousins to a team in-state, and they keep asking for more, and more, and more... What if Cousins doesn't want to go to LA (he's from Mobile, ALA)...

What if LAK have that itch t get good quickly, as in now. What if they want to take the city back from the Clippers, and try to get Kobe 1 more ring? What if...

What If Mitch and the prodigal son call Jenny into the office and ask her to get her man on the line.

What if LAK offers Randle & the #2 pick for 'Melo?

1) LA recruited Melo last year.
2) Melo would waive no-trade for LA
3) LA is proving the want t go for it now.
4) Trade for Melo and sign Wade, Love or Aldridge.
5) Phil explains to 'Melo there's no immediate help at 4 (we are drafting a project, building for the future).
6) Melo doesn't see help coming in free agency.
7) Melo knows his window is closing and wants to win (doesn't want another 20win season).

It's possible Knicks trade for Randle and the #2. They take Russell, knowing if not PHI will. Then, take Okafor-Pirzingis-Hezonja-Mudiay at 4.

We have our future:

Russell
Randle
Okafor

Exactly his tweet should have been under the premise of what would likely happen and list the Top 3 guys. Don't bring up what ifs and potential possibles and don't say a guy is "hovering" when it's been reported we've "NARROWED" down our choices to 3. 3 is 3, not 4... not well there are 2 others if they're there, they like etc etc.

Demarcus and agent have made it clear L.A. is the destination. If Sacramento does not accommodate they will have to endure another season of disgruntled DMC. His agent does not want him here, and I highly doubt Sac wants Melo. Phil already has gone on record we have nothing going to even begin to get a deal done. It's Lakers or Bust in Sactown.

I don't want Cousins. I'm saying if Lakers can't get Cousins, then why not turn their attention to Melo. Melo to the Lakers. Why not?
