Official 2017 NBA Draft Thread - June 22

DSJ worked out for the Lakers today, although reports early last week he was shutting workouts down. They were a part of his original schedule and maybe the reports were somewhat premature with a qualification of shutting them down by weeks end. Maybe there's a thought the Lakers talked him into it. He wanted to go up against other prospects loves to compete. Sounds like he did well but he's a Lakers trade down option(maybe Sacto deal?)...

But get this it's reported Lakers docked him with a 48" vertical...  , lol Phil better not have turned this kid away for no reason.

Still no details on why DSJ didn't work out for the Knicks. Was it the Knicks or DSJ that cancelled the workout, in either case I would be surprised if the Knicks pick him at 8 after the no workout. Would be different if it was like Frank who is in the heat of playoff combat. Not working out for the Knicks while being in town shows a lack of interest by one of the parties. Knicks have been active in working out players, not sure how it compares to other teams but they seem more active than say tje year they drafted KP.

The Lakers were "not impressed" with Lonzo Ball's conditioning during his workout last Wednesday, according to beat writer Mark Medina.

Ball went through shooting drills and played 2-on-2 with assistant coaches, saying afterward, "Drills get you tired, so you got to stay focused." There have been mixed reports about L.A.'s desire to select him with the No. 2 pick in the draft, and this report only adds to the uncertainty.

He looked tired. Lakers are going to be looking at his eye popping 124 pts/100 possessions with the Bruins than him being out of shape. did he look good early in the workout and got worse as he fatigued? I am really looking at him not being picked by the Lakers as an indication of how good a player he'll be in the future given the the local hype for him and the fact he's been on all the mocks as the Lakers pick, Lakers passing on him increases his "bust" risk imo.

Also, I think this was posted but DSJ had a workout with the Lakers and had an unreal vertical of 48 inches. Talk about a guy who can jump out to the building.

Like i mention before .. Lakers would be crazy not to take Ball with the 2nd pick .. Ball is a pass-first PG that goes to his teammates offensive strength. Coach Walton could thrive having D.Angelo n Ball in the same lineup running the point.

According to Gambo I believe a media pundit for Phx Suns Basketball has reported Josh Jackson receiving a promise in this draft. Jackson only did an agency workout though(unless private unbeknownst to anyone else). If so I'm guessing it's Philly or Phx planting this for draft intel.

Some believe a promise came from the Lakers. Jackson canceled his workout for the Celtics yesterday to workout for the Lakers today just moments after Fox completed his. It would be Jackson's first workout up close for the Lakers. Not sure he would need to workout again if the promise came from them. If promise is true it's from a team drafting lower than the Lakers IMO. The Lakers have primarily locked in on 3 guys(Ball/Fox/Jackson). I think the rumor made the Lakers press a little, although it wouldn't surprise me either his camp wants him in a Laker uniform.

Fox is so polished and I saw a different side of him in this interview. Super serious and business oriented. 3 pieces of intel in this interview

#1 No promise has been given him

#2 He's only done 2 private workouts

#3 At the end sounds like to me he's expecting another workout in Sacramento(The team I've been saying all along he won't slip past)

Is this what you guys heard?

I would actually want to keep Melo or Rose if Phil made it possible to grab these two draft picks ..
6.11 Jonathan Isaac and the 6.5 Frenchmen Frank Nitty out of the 2017 draft ..
The two players defensive-talent alone could start the Knicks rebuilding process immediately.

North Carolina's top scoring threat, Justin Jackson, said his workout with the Knicks Tuesday was entirely different than the rest he has participated in, per NY Post's Marc Berman.

Jackson, who played a vital role in UNC's championship run this past season, had six workouts prior to his visit with the Knicks. This one was unique.

"It was more teaching than all the other ones," Jackson said. "With the triangle and the other types of offenses they run, I would say it was a little more mental than physical."

Jackson picked up quickly on the triangle and thinks that the workout went well.

"I picked it up pretty easily -- everyone picked it up as time went on," Jackson said. "That helped a lot as far the workout, going into different actions. For me it was just basketball, making plays and reads."

Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek ran the workout that included Oregon forward Dillon Brooks, Wisconsin forward Nigel Hayes, and Louisville forward Jaylen Johnson. President Phil Jackson also "stepped in a few times to say what he wanted to see."

DraftExpress.com has Jackson going to the Bulls at No. 16, but the 22-year-old has heard the Knicks may trade their No. 8 pick to move down. If so, they could take a chance on the dynamic small forward.

"I'm hearing my range is 10 to 20," Jackson said. "I'll let the people who make the big decisions see where I am. My agent has heard the rumors of the Knicks trading down but who knows."

With the Knicks looking to trade current small forward, Carmelo Anthony, Jackson could fill that void if it comes to fruition.

Along with winning the NCAA title, Jackson was named ACC Player of the Year after averaging 18.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists while shooting 44 percent from the field last season.

Coach Brad Stevens called Markelle Fultz's high school counselor recently.
Joan Phalen is the assistant director of academic support at Fultz?s alma mater, DeMatha Catholic High School. "I had a wonderful conversation with Brad Stevens,?? said Phalen. "He was so interested in how Markelle learns, and I just thought that was an amazing concept for a coach to be interested in and concerned about." The Celtics are clearly doing their homework and it would be a major surprise for Fultz not to go No. 1 in the draft.

There is "some talk around the NBA" that Dennis Smith Jr. could fall in the draft, according to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer.
This report comes from Charlotte, so it's worth a mention on the NC State product. Smith Jr. has a ton of skill at the point guard position, but his size at 6'3" with a 6'3" wingspan is clearly his biggest negative. He reportedly did well at his workout for the Lakers and most expect him to go in the top 10. Expect to see plenty of reports in the next week or so.

There are multiple reports teams picking below us want him, Charlotte is one of them. Also the Sixers are trying to get him to workout as well as the Celtics(it was believed he worked out for them last Monday but it may have only been a visit)

Knicks interested in Duke star?

Here's a new name to put on the Knicks' radar at No. 8: Duke sharpshooter Luke Kennard.

According to hoops insider Adam Zagoria, the Knicks worked out Kennard and could put him in consideration for selection with their first-round pick.

--------

I think this is another "trade down" target.
