Official 2017 NBA Draft Thread - June 22

Lakers would be smart to jump on 5 & 10, and hope Ball lands in their laps at 5 anyway.

--------/

I sense NYK will pass on JI and Ntikilina, and if DSJ and Monk are gone.... like Broadway said, trade back to 9 or 10 or something:

I went back to Adam's Twitter page and scrolled down some more to find out DSJ had dinner with Phil Monday night and supposedly never worked out for us. Not sure on complete validity of this story but sounds legit. I think he got a promise from us. Only reason behind going to Orlando is to see if they'll draft him at 6 due to the transition they had with their GM change. All other options for us are contingency based which is obviously appropriate for us to do.

I'm absolutely positive we've given this kid a promise now. I forgot about Orlando hiring a new GM(Hammond formerly of the Bucks I believe)

The Lakers could be tempted to do that trade but I gotta believe they know most teams covet Fox

Internet rumors are the Lakers are not convinced Ball is a star. I think they want to avoid the mistake they made with Russell when Kupchak said Russell had that "Star" quality. Fox still has to become a better shooter but his D and athleticism are better than Ball's. SI could be wrong and Magic still might pick him, after all the Lakers got a better look at him than any other team in the NBA.

Late in the season Russell prove to be best at the SG position .. Lakers need one of the best PG in the draft or try the trade for CP3 again lol

Trading up is a tough get but the best scenario I think has shot is...

8th and #kporzee for 5th, 10th, 34th, Skal, Sixers or Kings 2018 1st

Would the Kings do that ???

If we do buy more draft picks we better add some more bench-coaches to the coaching-staff.

Okay, can someone explain why Dennis Smith came to New York, met with Phil Jackson, and then didn't workout for the team?

What is the likelihood that during their meeting it was confirmed that Smith is a terrible fit for the triangle and it was decided that there was no point in pretending that PJ is going to draft him?

As of now my gut says this is a smokescreen here, bigger question is "why is he shutting down his workouts after meeting with us"? There was an article written(Hoopshype) on Clearance Gaines and how he goes about becoming attached to a prospects. He said it has more to do with feeling and vibe than actual workout and skills/talent(assumed to be possessed I'm guessing until a further closer review) being observed. He said he studies players from afar/at a distance and watches how they interact with others, then starts to make recommendations.

It wouldn't surprise me if close to date of draft we bring DSJ in again for a private workout. Remember no one really knew they had dinner until he skipped town to Orlando. They had dinner Monday night, must have been late because he worked out for Boston earlier Monday I believe. What's up with these clandestine candle light dinners by Phil...LOL!

The only other thought....DSJ expressed interest in playing with Melo and having vets help him soak everything in to transition into the league.

Not sure if to take such statements as non alpha like or being politically correct with press and trying to say the right thing. This possibly could be a turn off to Phil if he utterly despises the thought of players latching on to Melo. Melo is still revolting against Phil in some under channels. At this point I say that's a stretch though.

Cs truly aren't sold on Fultz? It was mentioned early the Celtics said they will draft the best player in this draft but haven't identified who that was. Once again signs of how deep this draft will be.

So it sounds like maybe the Kings and Celtics could be talking, because Fultz obviously didn't get a promise from Cs(after meeting and workout) if he's willing to work out for the Kings. I'm trying to figure out the targets for Celtics in this scenario. With the draft taking place before free agency...the Celtics will pursue Hayward in free agency he's a guard, they have Thomas he's the point, they have Brown he's really a 3. That means Brown or Avery is moving to the bench. The target @ 5 has to be Josh Jackson and Markkanen @ 10. Slight chance it could be DSJ @ 5 too.

I actually like Donovan Mitchell - I think with that wingspan he can guard booth opposing guard positions Honestly all I really care about this time around is defense. For all of the grief we got for not having good PG play, we were worse on defense than we were on offense. We couldn't make a 4th quarter stop to save our lives and basically every single half-decent guard takes a dump on us every time we play. We haven't had good backcourt defense in 20 years...we could use some now

There's a team right outside the lottery that wants him, I believe Bulls but they feel he won't be there

Lonzo Ball "didn?t blow the Lakers away or seal any deal" in their meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Kevin Ding of Bleacher Report.
Ding has covered the Lakers for a long time, so this report is a legitimate one. Ball seemed to be saying the right things in his press conference and he reportedly shot the ball well in the workout on Wednesday, so he is still likely the favorite to go No. 2. The Lakers are going to workout De'Aaron Fox next week and there is some interest in Josh Jackson.

Marc Stein reports that MIA (and Riley) will make a serious run at Hayward.

We're working out everybody aren't we?

We saw Monk at the agency workout and we're taking a look at him again. He won't be there at 8, but no doubt Phil and the crew deserves credit for being diligent

I'm starting to feel this is where he's going for some reason

I know they've scouted him very thoroughly and they are high on foreign prospects

Knicks might have to wing it if they want Frank Ntilikina ....

Frank Ntilikina may not have time for any NBA workouts after the point guard helped lead his Strasbourg team to the French league finals in a 70-69 victory Friday in a decisive Game 5 of the semis.

Ntilikina staged his finest performance of the playoffs against Lyon-Villeurbanne as he notched 10 points, three assists, three rebounds and standout defense with three steals. The 6-foot-5, 18-year-old has intrigued the Knicks because of his strong body, defense and reported 7-foot-1 wingspan.

Had Strasbourg lost Friday, Ntilikina planned to be on a Saturday flight for New York, where he will be based in the run-up to the draft. But the best-of-five finals now start Tuesday and may not finish in time for Ntilikina to stage personal workouts with teams or — more importantly — interviews and measurements ahead of the June 22 draft.

“No matter what he will be in New York on draft night,’’ his agent, Olivier Mazet mention in email

I think this kid is the trade down contingency. Something tells me we might actually make a draft day trade. We might only be locked in on a couple players. Frank appears won't be able to workout for us in time and maybe Mitchell is a fall back

Doesn't appear to be anyone we're trying hard to trade up for

Only 11 days until the draft and the best guess that I have for who we're going to end up remains whoever out of Jayson Tatum, Malik Monk, Jonathan Isaac, or Dennis Smith Jr falls to us. This is assuming that Fultz, Ball, De'Aaron Fox, and Josh Jackson are the top 4 picks.

Still, a bunch of scenarios where either we reach for Justin Jackson or Donovan Mitchell or we decide to roll the dice on the "unseen in the States" Frank Ntilikina. I have no faith in PJ to actually pull off a trade down in the 1st round.

At gunpoint, if I had to guess who is going to fall to us and we'd actually pick, then I guess I'll go with Dennis Smith Jr. despite the fact that he did not work out for us and that his poor fit for the triangle makes me very nervous that PJ is going to pass on him.

Anyone else want to give a specific guess of a player at this point?

DSJ worked out for the Lakers today, although reports early last week he was shutting workouts down. They were a part of his original schedule and maybe the reports were somewhat premature with a qualification of shutting them down by weeks end. Maybe there's a thought the Lakers talked him into it. He wanted to go up against other prospects loves to compete. Sounds like he did well but he's a Lakers trade down option(maybe Sacto deal?)...

But get this it's reported Lakers docked him with a 48" vertical...  , lol Phil better not have turned this kid away for no reason.
