Game Preview

The New York Knicks once again will look to prevent the Heat from etching their name into the NBA history books when the teams play Game 6 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series on Friday night in Miami.

With its back against the wall, fifth-seeded New York pushed back on Wednesday and closed its deficit in the best-of-seven series to 3-2 with a 112-103 victory. The decision kept Miami from becoming just the second No. 8 seed to reach the conference finals and the first since the Knicks accomplished the feat in the spring of 1999.

New York coach Tom Thibodeau was quick to credit Jalen Brunson after the latter filled the stat sheet on Wednesday. Brunson recorded 38 points, nine rebounds and seven assists while playing in all 48 minutes of the game.

"What can you say about the guy?" Thibodeau said. "He's just incredible, all-around player. Great leader, great toughness. Mental toughness, physical toughness, ability to think on his feet, ability to lead, ability to connect with people, bring the best out of people. That's what makes him special. And it's play after play."

Brunson told reporters that there was no discussion about his extended workload prior to Wednesday's game.

"Nothing was said at all. Whatever it takes," Brunson said.

Brunson wasn't alone, however, as fellow guard Quentin Grimes also played all 48 minutes.

"We'll see what Game 6 brings," Thibodeau said, when addressing whether Brunson and Grimes would play all 48 minutes again on Friday. "If it requires them to do that, then I'm not afraid to do it."

RJ Barrett scored 26 points and Julius Randle collected 24 points, five rebounds and five assists just two days after he openly questioned whether the Heat "want it more" than the Knicks.

Miami's Jimmy Butler was held under 25 points for the first time this postseason on Wednesday. Butler, who was voted to the All-NBA second team on Wednesday, finished with team-leading totals in points (19) and assists (nine) to go along with seven rebounds.

"It doesn't matter if I score 40 or 50 or 19 or nine, we always have enough to win," Butler said. "And if I score 10 points in that game and we win, that wouldn't be an issue, wouldn't be a question and I will continue to play the right way."

Bam Adebayo had 18 points and eight rebounds and Duncan Robinson sank five 3-pointers to highlight his 17-point performance off the bench. The Heat, however, finished just 13 of 43 from beyond the arc.

"(The Knicks) did their job," Miami guard Kyle Lowry said. "They protected their homecourt. Now we've got to take care of our job Friday."

The Heat have won all four of their home games thus far in the playoffs. A win on Friday -- or a victory at Madison Square Garden in Game 7 on Monday -- would send Miami to the Eastern Conference final for the third time in four seasons.

Wsup Rady .. Thanks for Game 6 Thread .. Breaking the Heats winning streak at home will be exciting ....
However, Brunson and Grimes 48 minute performance made my Knicks season !!!

that was 20000% an offensive foul on Strus. They called Brunson for the foul, his third. Brunson made zero contact and Strus extended his arm out and pushed Brunson off.

Refs been letting Adebayo and Butler set illegal screens and only call them for 2 total in the whole series. Illegal screens and fouls not being called on Miami is killing us completely.

Brunson only one who could make a shot. QG couldn’t hit side of barn. Randle as many TO as made shots. RJ 1-10. IQ didn’t play again.

Barrett only 22 and redeemed his season with his post season play. But this is now 3 playoff series for Randle. His game and mentality not suited for post season.

Knicks starters shot 5-32 if you take away Brunson’s magnificent performance.

Goal now is to sign Dillon Brooks and swap Rabdle for KAt, Lavine or BI.

Randle really gave nothing out there.

RJ was playing well in the 1st but totally turned his brain off in the 3rd and 4th. His turnovers and weak finishing and no presence on the 3pt line killed us.

Brunson playing God mode looks cinematic but Randle and RJ couldn't have played worse games.

how do you justify keeping Randle on this team?

His playoff shooting % is some of the worst in nba history for guys who play 30 minutes a game.

Weve given him multiple seasons to show up. Hes a regular season performer always fades during the playoffs.

If we paired Brunson with a real star we would be able to compete for a title.

Randle limits us. I'm a huge RJ supporter but if theres an upgrade I'm pulling the trigger

I like MIA. Butler, Bam, Lowry, love, Riley, Spols… they’re grinders off the bench. Got to respect them.

Brunson, Hart & Hartenstein, QG, Obi, RJ, MRob…. Good foundation. Knicks need to use IQ and Randle to upgrade roster.

But NYK battled to end of game 6, second round. Can’t be disappointed. Brunson is worth every Penny…

Nice season for the 47-35 Knicks .. Brunson should have a better head coach than Thibs, him and Randle dribbling into double team defenders down the stretch of our final game of the season. We need someone like head coach Rick Carlisle or Jason Kidd who writes up several ball movement plays for their PG Brunson to pass the ball, instead of dribble dribble dribble the shot clock down or Randle dribble dribble turn over.
Still we had a great season from Brunson and the Knicks !!!

What an awful game, series, and playoff run from Mr middle-finger, Julius “3rd team ALL NBA” Randle… How do you go from third team NBA to bum?

Randle was 9-32 from downtown. He was 31-73 from the field overall. 25-35 from the FT line. 20 turnovers in 6 games.

3 baskets and 3 TO in Game 6.
8 baskets and 4 TO game 5
8 baskets and 6 TO game 4
4 baskets and 4 TO game 3
8 baskets and 3 TO game 2

“I played terrible. I’m very disappointed in how I played today,” added Barrett, who was 1-for-10 from the field, but 9-for-10 from the free throw line. “I don’t know, just, it’s a lot right now. You fight for something; you want something so bad and then I personally did not — I don’t feel like I played my best.

It hurts, but it’s good to have experiences like these. You can learn from them. They’re a very good team, very experienced, very poised. So you can learn from that.”

NBA Last 2-Minute Report on Knicks-Heat Game 6 says the refs missed 2 Bam Adebayo offensive fouls and a shooting foul on Gabe Vincent

I been on RJ Barrett's case since rookie season (for inconsistency & low IQ).
However, Barrett's 4 season development has been the same as ex-TimberWolves Wiggins.
As soon as Wiggins got on a team that have lots of Screens/Picks/Player-Movement on all their offensive-possessions, plus coach Mike Brown strategies for the GS Warriors .. Wiggins offense/defense improve a 100% to become a star scoring role player. RJ Barrett's talent develop the same potential as Wiggins, and needs a head coach Mark Jackson Team-Ball philosophy each game.
Tom Thibs ISO offense works well consistently with players Brunson & D.Rose .. No one else !!!
