Official 2017 NBA Draft Thread - June 22

Frank didn't score in his game Monday. He doesn't start, hasn't put up big numbers, he seems to be a little overhyped. Lets see how the draft shakes out but I think I would pick DSJ Monk and JI over him.

Can't go by numbers.... KP didn't even start nor did WHG.... their numbers were pedestrian as well. Remember, Fultz lost at home to Yale. Dude only managed to win 9 games.... that's alarming to me. At least DSJ beat Duke!

But, yeah.... I would run to podium to draft DSJ over Ntikilina. Heck, I would attempt to move heaven and earth to trade up to 2 or 4 and get Fox.

Trade next year's 1st, Melo, eat bad contracts.... whatever!

He also choked here...

Missed a wide open Triangle "midrange" jumper and loafed back on D to get beat with a walk off jumper

Fox is going to be a stud. Better than Ball and right there with Fultz, his shot is the only thing that needs work and I don't see how it doesn't get better being so young.

I think we all agree that Ntikilina isn't what we hoped for, but getting him or Isaac is a nice consolidation being we fell to 8. I just hope we don't repeat mistake - taking Jordan Hill over DeRozan.

I mean, we all prefer Fultz, Ball, JJ, Tatum, Fox, Monk, DSJ ahead of Frenchie.... too bad we have to sit and wait and pray a top 6 guy falls in our laps.... if so, YES!

If not, you pick between the C from Arizona, Collins, Isaac, or Frenchie (or trade down or trade pick for young player or future pick).

A part of me, tho, while thinking Frenchie has a bright future.... fell it's a bad pick for KP and WHG.

FWIW #kporzee and WHG have spent time overseas hanging with Rubio, Mavs having interest in trading for him too, go figure!

I guess the honeymoon is over for Russell. They'll be looking for a PG if they trade him for a pick, if I'm Magic I take Fox over Ball.

Based on targets, this suggest to me they've suckered themselves into the Ball sweepstakes but if I'm them I'm trading with Phx and asking for my 2018 1st back, and Phx 2017 2nd to swap 2 with 4. I'd do it today and put the rumor out there I'm taking Fox and make Sacramento come crawling for a 4 for 5 and 10 swap.

I just heard Josh Jax to work out for BOS tomorrow....

Also, for what it's worth.... heard a Heat writer on with Francessa today and he has Isaac and kid from ARI go 5 & 6...

So, if this is true.... our draft comes to: Monk, Ntikilina, DSJ, Mitchell.

Monk and KP would be GSW lethal from downtown in 5 years? Kid is best shooter of the bunch.

Ntikilina and KP and WHG and the Euro Knicks? Kid is best defender of the bunch.

DSJ is the east coast version of Fultz.... Has red flags and is biggest bust factor but also has highest ceiling.

Mitchell: the ideal "play-it-safe" compilation of the other 3 guys.... atheletic, shooots it well enough,
plays defense.

To be honest, without truly scouting and looking into it.... hard to tell. I lean towards DSJ but my instinct would say to go with draft's best shooter. In other words, Monk would be favorite and would have to fail the vetting process to be my choice.

But, if I saw more Klay in him then Crawford.... I take Monk over DSJ (knee injury and character ? a concern).... looking at today's game.... Monk and KP's outside shooting potential, combined with post offense skills of WHG.... Too good for me to go with.

Still, again, deciding between Monk and DSJ comes down to extensive tape study and interview insights.

The Mavs have very little besides 1st rounders every yr going forward. I doubt they'd trade a 1st to move up 1 spot. If they feel absolutely necessary they'd do it with a team higher than us, maybe Orlando(who had always puzzled me this draft). That would be a reach for the Mavs IMO.

Now Stefan Bondy of NYDN rebuttal this tweet saying Knicks have scouted him the hardest as in we've done more work to build interest but stopped short of Frankie sending strong signals wanting to be a Knick. Supposedly Roddy Beaubois(former Mavs pick) tipped them off to Frankie.

Knicks previous/past mismanagement situation compared to owner Cuba's hands on the growth of a rebuilding-club progress would not be hard to convince Frank Nitty party .. career growth under the Dallas Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle are more promising than the Dolan/Phil/Melo show in a high tax bracket New York. Nice place to visit but .......

Why do Dallas want Frank Nitty rather than the other front-runner PG that will be available to the 10th to 12th pick? It has to be Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle who wants Frank Nitty relentless-defensive-effort, plus low turn-over passing-skills, because Carlisle has a habit of calling plays on every Mavs offensive possession.
The Mavs hiring Frank Nitty's french coach says the Mavs are ready to develop Frank to the NBA level of ball throughout rookie contract plus owner Cuban selected the 9th pick over Knicks days before the draft.

I don't want a one dimensional scorer Monk!
Because DSJ n Fox will be gone by the 8th pick.
76ers/Lakers/Kings/Magic/Wolves are all looking to grab top PG out of the draft ..
Damn! i really wanted us to get Frank Nitty .. why didn't Phil or Mill think of hiring the french coach too.
Stupid is what stupid does ....

I like DSJ the most but if he's not available then Frank is my second pick. We need defense, Frank is athletic and can shoot It's rare to be able to get a real lockdown defender at PG and Frank has a good chance of being that type of pesky guard defender. We haven't had one of those in 20 years and we need one desperately. We can't keep getting owned by literally EVERY SINGLE POINT GUARD IN THE NBA DSJ is the best but for some reason I don't think he'll be there. He's the best athlete in the entire draft and you don't pass up on that type of physical talent. He also has a very good work ethic and seems up for the challenge. I'd like him at #8 but if he's not available than Frank is a good #2. But as long as we get one out of Frank/Monk/DSJ, I'm happy. Just *please* don't be dumb and take Donovan Mitchell or Luke Kennard or Markkanen or Collins

Haven't talked about Kennard because nobody expects he will go as high as 8 but Chad Ford says he could go 8-12 which means he maybe on the Knicks radar.

https://www.reddit.com/r/NBA_Draft/comments/6hiv11/chad_ford_kennard_rising_fast/

According to Chad Ford's latest intel piece, Luke Kennard is in play as high as 8 and will not make it past 12.

"The hot name moving up fastest: Luke Kennard

Kennard has been a polarizing prospect, but a consensus is starting to form among teams that have evaluated him recently.

He started the college season as a fringe first-round prospect, but in recent weeks he's moved up fast. Based on conversations with GMs this week, I put him in the third tier of first-round-caliber players, but teams are increasingly grouping him with other second-tier prospects.

Kennard has worked out for the Lakers, Knicks, Pistons, Heat and Pacers. He still has workouts scheduled with the Magic, Mavericks and Hornets.

The feedback from teams has been overwhelmingly positive.

"There's no way he gets to us," one GM in the late lottery said. "I don't think there's any way he's out of the top 10. We think he's the best shooter in the draft. We think he's tough. He's more athletic than you think. He really thinks the game. He's the most underrated guy in this draft."

"He's ranked ahead of Malik Monk on our board," another GM said. "He's not as athletic, but he has a much more versatile game and he's less streaky. Monk will be great. An instant scorer coming off the bench. But we think Kennard could be a full-time starter in the league."

Shooting comes at a premium right now in the NBA, and that partially explains the rise in Kennard's stock. But most teams see the former Blue Devil as more than just a shooter.

Right now it looks like the Pistons at No. 12 are Kennard's floor. But he could go higher. The Knicks, according to a team source, are seriously considering taking him at No. 8. And a Lakers source said he'd be a favorite if the team ends up with a second pick in the top 10."

The article also stated that the Celtics are looking hard at Josh Jackson at 1 (which I find hard to buy) and that the Lakers are looking at possibly trading back to 4 or 5.

Select Frank Nitty over Dallas .. and keep it moving.
I would not be surprise if the Wolves select Frank Nitty defense at #7 to go with Lavine/Wiggins/and KAT scoring

I'm hearing Minny will take the 7-foot shooter from ARI.

I'm hoping Isaac is off the board by 8, b/c I think it's a BIG mistake passing in him for Ntikilina or Mitchell.

I'm still hoping for DSJ, but I fear Phil will pass on him bc "he doesn't fit triangle".... Then again, who the heck knows with Ntikilina?
