Official Trade Rumors Thread

Knicks are probably not in the picture, Suns are not interested in what we can offer. The common theme from the teams below is Make the team better for a playoff run with a trade for EB or in Orlando's case move on from guys that have been disappointments like Payton and Hezonja. If he sucks like so many here are saying, his stats belie that, why do so many playoff teams want him.

From ESPN Insider.

Will the Phoenix Suns get value for Eric Bledsoe?

After Bledsoe cryptically tweeted, "I Don't wanna be here," on Sunday, Suns GM Ryan McDonough told reporters Monday that he plans to discuss trading the apparently unhappy point guard and said Bledsoe "won't be with us going forward."
As ESPN's Bobby Marks notes, this early in the season is an unusual time for trades, and the pressure to move Bledsoe now gives Phoenix little leverage in negotiations. So can the Suns find a deal that gives them enough in return for a player on one of the league's better contracts, or have they already squandered his trade value?
Let's take a look at three realistic options, plus why several other interested teams may not be able to put together a deal that satisfies Phoenix's needs.

[h=2]Potential suitor 1: Denver Nuggets[/h]Suns get: Guard Emmanuel Mudiay and forward Kenneth Faried
Nuggets get: Bledsoe

Denver is the most logical Bledsoe destination by a wide margin. After signing Paul Millsap as a free agent this summer, the Nuggets are hoping to return to the playoffs for the first time since firing George Karl in 2013. Denver's weakest position is point guard, where Jamal Murray has star potential but has struggled in two games as a starter since the Nuggets unexpectedly waived veteran Jameer Nelson. Because Bledsoe could play with Murray or supplant him as a starter, Bledsoe would be an ideal bridge point guard to help Denver win now.
The Nuggets could offer Phoenix a handful of young prospects, with Mudiay -- who would be pushed out of the rotation by Bledsoe's arrival -- the easiest to let go. Though he hasn't been much better than Murray early in the season, Mudiay played well in the preseason and is two years removed from being the No. 7 pick of the 2015 draft. At 21, Mudiay would have a chance to develop at his own speed with the Suns' young talent.
Denver would have to send back additional salary to match Bledsoe's, with Faried the obvious candidate. Faried wants a bigger role than he has had with the Nuggets, and including him would allow Denver to shed some salary next season -- important with Gary Harris' extension kicking in. Given a fresh start in Phoenix, Faried could have some value, though he also would compete with young big men Dragan Bender and Marquese Chriss for playing time.
This package, without any draft picks included on the Nuggets' end, is probably the bare minimum any other offer would have to beat.

[h=2]Potential suitor 2: Orlando Magic[/h]Suns get: Guards D.J. Augustin, Mario Hezonja and Elfrid Payton
Magic get: Bledsoe and guard Troy Daniels
See this trade in the ESPN trade machine
It's unclear whether Orlando would really be interested in swapping point guards with Phoenix, but such a deal would make some sense for both sides. The Magic would get a better shooter and more experienced player at point guard who could help them make a run at a playoff spot. If Orlando's new front office isn't sold on Payton as the team's answer at point guard, not having to make a decision on him as a restricted free agent next summer might also be a bonus.
The Magic could offer the Suns a couple of interesting young prospects. Despite his poor shooting, Payton has been a triple-double threat at times. At 23, he still has plenty of development ahead of him. And Hezonja was the No. 5 pick in 2015, so despite his ineffective first two seasons in the NBA there's still a chance that Phoenix could unlock his talent as a scorer.

The Suns would have to take on a bad contract in Augustin, who is signed through 2019-20 at $7.25 million a year. He's the only option to match salary until Shelvin Mack becomes eligible to be traded on Dec. 15. The fact that players signed as free agents this summer cannot yet be traded is among the challenges the Suns face in making a fair deal for Bledsoe.

[h=2]Potential suitor 3: Cleveland Cavaliers[/h]Suns get: Guard Iman Shumpert, center Ante Zizic, protected 2021 first-round pick
Cavaliers get: Bledsoe
See this trade in the ESPN trade machine
Bledsoe has long been linked to Cleveland because he's represented by Klutch Sports Management, which represents LeBron James, but Bledsoe also would fit well with the Cavaliers. Derrick Rose's sprained ankle has exposed how thin Cleveland is at point guard while Isaiah Thomas is sidelined by a hip injury. In any event, Bledsoe is a better fit than Thomas defensively to match up with the Golden State Warriors in a possible NBA Finals rematch.
While the Cavaliers have to think about a possible future without LeBron James, parting with Zizic and a first-round pick is reasonable to maximize their chances of winning a championship with James, and Bledsoe would still have some value as an expiring contract next summer if Cleveland wanted to move on. This incarnation of a trade would cost the Cavaliers in terms of luxury tax, however. It's possible a larger deal could be worked out that would send Channing Frye back to Phoenix and bring Troy Daniels to Cleveland with Bledsoe.
The bigger question, of course, is whether the Suns would prefer a deal that doesn't bring them any young point guard in return. They'd have to really like Zizic -- or wing Cedi Osman, who could be the young player in the trade instead -- to choose Cleveland as a partner.

[h=2]Other possible suitors[/h]Detroit Pistons: Bledsoe would be a great fit in Detroit, but realistically the only way a trade makes sense is if Phoenix is willing to do a challenge trade of Bledsoe for Reggie Jackson. That seems unlikely.
LA Clippers: Bledsoe could fit well with the team that drafted him. However, nearly all the salaries the Clippers could offer in return are in the form of rotation pieces, and their young talent doesn't seem likely to be appealing to the Suns.
Milwaukee Bucks: It makes sense that the Bucks have shown interest in Bledsoe, as reported by Marc Stein of the New York Times. Bledsoe's defensive versatility would fit perfectly in Milwaukee's system. The problem is that unless the Bucks are willing to give up Greg Monroe, all their other matching salaries (Matthew Dellavedova, John Henson and Mirza Teletovic) would be unpalatable for Phoenix. So Milwaukee would probably have to offer multiple first-round picks to compete with the other possible suitors.
New York Knicks: Bledsoe could serve as a bridge to rookie Frank Ntilikina in New York. But if the Knicks are unwilling to deal Ntilikina or Willy Hernangomez, as ESPN's Ian Begley notes, there's not much else of interest on their roster.
Philadelphia 76ers: The Sixers are an intriguing wild card if they see Bledsoe as a long-term starting option. That said, they'd surely have to add a first-round pick to an offer of Jerryd Bayless and Jahlil Okafor to compete in terms of value. So Philadelphia will more likely wait out free agency next summer, when the 76ers could add a 3-and-D guard without giving up a pick in return.

One, I?m pretty sure Bledsoe is 6?3? and DSJ is 6?2?, so Bledsoe is not shorter than DSJ.

Two, you do a deal to get rid of Lee?s bad contract. Bledsoe?s contract expires next season. WHG is out of the rotation because in practice his defense is so bad, even compared to a poor defensive player like Kanter, that we don?t even play him. Since we?ve drafted him, Ntilikina has played 18 minutes of preseason ball and 5 minutes of regular season ball.

So, 2 guys who don?t play to get rid of Lee?s bad contract and get a guy we can flip as an expiring contract next year. It?s not that crazy.

When it?s the All-Star break and Ntilikina is already getting shut down for the season with a stubbed toe and WHG?s lack of playing time has turned his role with Hornacek and the front office into a daily drama, we?ll see how people feel then.

I'm not sure why some are down on Bledsoe. I liked him all the way back to Kentucky. Kid can score, dish, and defend: he has a cheap contract....

PHO deserves as much blame as Bledsoe in this situation. A flagrant tweet doesn't make him a bad guy.

Teams are tripping over themselves to get EB.... again, this is very similar to the Lowry situation a few years ago... too bad Dolan vetoed that trade.

People want to complain how we have had the worst PG play in the league for years, but no one ever wants to take a chance on trading for a PG that is actually attainable. Bledsoe is not amazing or anything, but neither was Lowry when he went to Toronto, as you said.

To me, he's a better fit than Lee and we have an extra C to offer. Not saying that entices PHO to make a trade... but I would be willing to do that....

Now, I wouldnt toss in Frenchie unless PHO took back Noah....

Bledsoe might be very good for KP's growth.... or he may not pan out. But Bledsoe is much better than Sessions and Baker.

I do agree that tanking may be the better route, and trading for him may take us away from a top 5 pick.

But if I can "steal" Bledsoe for Lee and WHG (or Kanter) then I roll dice and hope to microwave this rebuild.

Who knows what Bledsoe, THJr and KP could accomplish?

Did anybody think at the time that Lowry would've been the missing piece for Melo?

Frank Isola

Last season, they sat him the final month to tank for Lonzo Ball. If you were a 28-year-old point guard in a guard-dominated league whose contract expires in July 2019, you wouldn't want to commit any more of your prime years to such a dysfunctional franchise.

So why would Bledsoe want to join the Knicks, who haven't been a model franchise either? Good question without a great answer, other than the Knicks have a glaring need at the position.

The Knicks, who are 0-2 entering Tuesday game in Boston, could make a run at a playoff spot by adding Bledsoe. He's not John Wall, but he's certainly not Ramon Sessions either. The addition of Bledsoe would allow Frank Ntilikina to develop as a rookie back-up.

That's assuming, of course, the Suns don't ask for the Knicks 2017 first-round pick in return. The Knicks believe in Ntilikina, who is likely to miss Tuesday's game with a sprained ankle. But that pick was made by Phil Jackson, who decided not to select Dennis Smith Jr. Something tells me Steve Mills might be open to removing some of Jackson's DNA from the roster.

But Ntilikina alone won't get a deal done. The Suns would likely ask for Willy Hernangomez, who has been buried on the bench in the Knicks first two games. If you deal Ntilikina and Hernangomez along with a veteran (Courtney Lee) to match Bledsoe's salary, it doesn't necessarily alter your rebuilding plan. If the Knicks become a playoff team, that will only help Porzingis' development and make the Knicks more appealing to free agents. If the Knicks can't nail down a place in the top 8, they head to the lottery knowing they have a core of Porzingis and Bledsoe, who is averaging 13.1 points, 8 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game during his career.

Still, it's a long-shot. Milwaukee is reportedly interested in Bledsoe, and adding him should seal the Bucks? place as a top-four team in the East. Denver, which is trying to break into the playoff picture in the West, plays an up-tempo style that suits Bledsoe. They also have the assets to make a deal.

Several NBA executives doubt the Knicks can be players for Bledsoe. One said the Suns historically are "unrealistic" with their asking price. Another said he doesn't believe the Knicks would part with Hernangomez. The Suns, however, aren't exactly dealing from a position of strength. They lost 130-88 on Saturday night to the Clipper to fall to 0-3. Their opening night 124-76 loss to Portland was the biggest blowout loss in Suns history.

Usually bad teams wait until March to quit. The Suns have quit in October. Some, not all, falls on Bledsoe, but a change of scenery should help him. Bledsoe once shared a backcourt with Isaiah Thomas and Goran Dragic, two players who have long since been traded. Their respective careers dramatically changed once they left Phoenix and found homes in the East.

The Knicks, if given the chance, should bet on that trend continuing.

No mention of Noah with Frank and WHG in Isola's article. Suns would never go for it, eating Noah's contract for a guy that's an unknown and for a big that can't defend, no GM would be that stupid.

to me the more interesting news at this point out of all of this is the fact that the knicks don't seem to be interested at all in trading willy.
i'm going to assume that's because they see him as being part of our future. so that tells me they may in fact be giving kanter plenty of minutes for trade purposes.
so who or what are we going to end up getting for kanter down the stretch of the season?

First of all his character(maturity as a leader) has been questionable since being given the keys in Phx. He's a bonafied loser, an empty calorie stat producer, doesn't make anyone around him better..very overrated. He's high maintenance and he has injury history(knees I believe).

he sound like the perfect fit for us...

There's a SMALL chance he's taller then DSJ but one thing he's not is 6'3"

More importantly it's never really about any player's size Kemba/Conley/CP3/Kyrie all a LITTLE under stature. When it comes to Bledsoe it's about winning and nothing about his game suggest he is since he's been the lead man

I googled it the other day and it said 6?3? somewhere, but that?s clearly not right. He could be 8 inches tall and he?d still be the best PG on our roster. Moot point. We?re not trading for him anyway.

The Phoenix Suns' efforts to trade guard Eric Bledsoe have reportedly hit a snag thus far because of their asking price.

On Tuesday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Bledsoe's trade value has suffered lately, and teams have been unwilling to part with "a young player with significant talent" in exchange for him.

sounds good to me. forget about it! i'm sure he'll find a new home soon.

Trading for a PG who's 27 is fine/great if he's elite. Bledsoe isn't. I don't care who Phoenix would take. I'm not for tanking, but if hypothetically the Knicks did lose enough to get a great player in the draft, it would most likely mean Bledsoe didn't play on the team. Trading Ntilikina/Hernangomez for him would be ridiculous. I would rather trade for Chris Paul (the Knicks don't have anything to offer even if he was available) who's had a lot of injuries and in his 30s because not only is he elite, he makes the team better. Rondo or Rubio would have been the best option at PG for this team. I would have rather the Knicks offer three times as much for Rondo for a couple years than the contracts they offered this past off-season.

This is not saying Bledsoe isn't good. I was listening to the radio in the afternoon and the host was saying Bledsoe would have played the entire past two seasons if it wasn't for the Suns sitting him the last month of last season to tank for the draft. I haven't seen a lot of Bledsoe, so maybe I WOULD be wanting the Knicks to get him if I did.

Supposedly Suns wanted Monroe, Thon Maker and a draft pick from the Bucks for Bledsoe. He ain't going anywhere with demands like that.

Listen, I like Ntilkina too, but is he ever going to play? As far as WHG, we have to move someone at center. I still say the point of trading for Bledsoe would be to shed Lee?s contract. Reports may say that Phoenix is looking for a huge return, but seriously, they pulled PJ and announced to the world they are trading Bledsoe no matter what. If they get one piece with value, they will be lucky.

DSJ has been hurt... so is Fultz now. Embid and Simmons both missed their rookie years. Let's be patient. Wait and see approach.
