Official Trade Rumors Thread

So Boston has to worry about KI 2yrs from now but Cleveland doesn't have to worry about IT next summer? Couldn't Boston trade Kyrie again especially if they beat Cleveland or remain the #2 threat? What if Lebron leaves and Cleveland doesn't give IT Max Money wouldn't Boston have the clear lane to a chip then?

I believe Cavs understand IT is a one year rental...

I think CLE "gets" that it's highly likely LJ splits after this season. This trade brilliantly appeased LJ and remained faithful to the all-in now while window is open (even if for 1 more season).

In essence, Cavs swapped KI for IT, Rose, and Crowder. They've improved! And, when year ends and LJ bolts.... they won't have to worry about IT leaving. They probably don't care.... they won't have to waste cap space. Maybe they do a sign and trade then maybe deal Crowder.

Cavs dealt KI (who they controlled for this year and next) for a legit shot at 1 more title.... then.... also received maybe a top 3 draft pick.

Las Vegas still has the Cavs favored over the Celts to win a championship after the trade.

Those were the same odds pre Kyrie trade. Cavs didn't make this trade to beat the Celtics or at least I hope not. I bet the Vegas odds say Cleveland doesn't beat GSW. So this gets back to the long-term ramifications IMO for Cleveland and appears to me unless they can convince Lebron to stay and finesse more deals to breathe a continued pattern of success into their org, they more than likely will lose on this trade.

On paper and talent alone Cleveland wins or let's say for today but I'm looking at the whole picture

Can't play IT and Rose together alongside Lebron it's not the same dynamic as Kyrie and Lebron...this isn't a video game and there is only 1 ball. They essentially have two rentals where one has to come off the bench eventually, which won't bode well for guys trying to plot for another major payday. That is by far the trashiest defensive backcourt any team could ever put together in the history of the NBA. Crowder and and #3 for Kyrie is okay, I guess similar to what Chicago got for Butler or maybe worse

You know how I feel about getting picks especially of this caliber but Cleveland is devoid of rebuilding assets outside of it. With that said if the pick stands to be Top 3 and has this special value, and Cleveland can work other S&Ts for future assets then why are we still hanging on to Carmelo jeopardizing our chance to land Top 3 pick?

This also gets back to what I've thought all along...with all the Ainge bashing of sitting on assets and not making deals.

He got bashed for not trading for Cousins

He got bashed for not trading for Butler

He got bashed for not trading for George

He finally trades for Kyrie(Arguably Top 10-15 player) and the end result is "Well it's still not enough to beat Cleveland"...face it there really was never a deal fans who disliked their franchise or him as a GM that would of satisfied the opposing narrative. Oh and btw had he traded for any of the above for the same package not only would it be criticized but the odds would've remained the same "Not enough to beat Cleveland"

No way they play IT and Rose together. IT is at least 85% of what KI was for CLE next season... if healthy, of course. And, Rose is a big upgrade over Deron Williams. That's what I meant, that their PG position in total could be seen as better this season.

KI doesn't play defense either. At least that's what the metrics state. And, KI is a ball dominant G and Tatum a ball dominant F. So, there's that to consider.

It appears Wade will be bought out and will head to MIA or CLE.

Anyway, BOS got rid of 3/4 of their top defensive players. Bradley, Crowder, and Johnson. BOS will score more but will also have trouble stopping people.

I think you're confusing giving credit to CLE as bashing BOS. I applaud Ainge for finally dealing picks. Dude never drafted an all star so I was perplexed as to why he hoarded all his picks.

This was a great trade for BOS. My only caveat is they have to seal the deal and extend KI, or else this is a killer.

Like you said, this isn't a video game. Just adding KI and GH doesn't instantly make them better. They have to mesh. Will KI be coachable? Word is he wants to play for Brad Stevens. But, we'll see how it all fits.

I'm just looking at the totality of moves made by both CLE and BOS and, to me, CLE got better while BOS went from a scrappy defensive team to an offensive team. Will they get enough stops to repeat last year's results?

It's not enough to beat CLE bc 1 LJ is better than a KI and a GH.

Bos will definitely have to reset the system after all these moves as will Cleveland. Bos does have defensive competency though...Smart/Horford/Hayward then add Brown/Morris as guys who'll have to step up and meet the challenge. They will have some growing pains with Rozier and Tatum but more than likely worth their while. What Bos doesn't have in comparison to Cleveland is redundancy and misfits throughout the roster. Having Lebron will always be their out but now more pressure is on them

Also every yr Lebron was contemplating leaving his teams, he's never come out on top. Actually his teams got destroyed. So in case he's staying this appears far more sketchy for them than Boston

BOS also still in position to make a run at Anthony Davis, and with Ainge and Stevens, are in good hands moving forward.

KI,Tatum and GH will mesh well together. Pick and pops.

The Pelicans will win the West next year. Davis isn't going anywhere, which means Cousins and Rondo isn't either.

Seems like the Cavs didn't like what they found after medical evaluation of Thomas' hip. There are internet reports that they may ask for another one of Boston's picks. Makes a lot more sense to me that Boston did this deal if they don't think Thomas is healthy. Pretty sleazy move if it is true.

I disagree... I think its up to the acquiring team to do their due diligence ... you do the medical's b4 u finalize the trade... not after...

The trade is not finalized yet. The Cavs are totally within their right to not go through with this trade.

If I were the Cavs I would threaten to bust the trade to see if they can get another asset out of it but ultimately go through with it. Boston can't afford to back out of this deal imo.

so if the deal is not done... when is a deal final???
Cavs have until Thursday to bust the trade. Read the Celts don't want 2 unhappy players in IT and Crowder coming back into their locker room and the Cavs will want another pick if IT injury is serious enough to reject the trade.

I think if you're Boston, you throw in some random future 2nd round pick and let everyone move on with their lives. If Cleveland was really that upset, they would have just vetoed the trade altogether, not asked for another pick.

To me .. IT has always been a much better all-around PG and player than Kyrie Irving in college n NBA.
I would be sceptical about IT hip injury only because IT has one year left on his contract, i would want to give IT a long big $$$ extension contract in the middle of the season if IT could come in averaging 28 min per night in 70 regular season games, plus be healthy for a strong playoff run.
Boston giving the Lebron Cavs a stand-up athletic role-player Crowder to put in their frontcourt rotation a long side of Triston or Love for 26 min per night is like adding a young winning Richard Jefferson to the roster. Plus adding a young 20 yr old 6.11 PF Ante Zizic to the roster, plus receiving the Nets unprotected 2018 first round pick.

Kyrie Irving has to many flaws in his all-around game for the Lebron Cavs to want to pull-out of this 80-20 trade .. its like trading your 2010 mercedes having 60 thousand miles for a 2015 mercedes having 30 thousand miles having a lesser payment plan deal .. Cavs got the better of this trade in more ways than expected. A healthy IT and Crowder is enough to take on the mighty GSW in the FINALS!
Plus the Cavs signed veteran scoring guard D.Rose offense that will fit good tandem with Shump in the backcourt to give opponents havoc, plus having a 75% healthy IT to turn-up the tempo from 1 to 120 in a matter of seconds tandem with JR.Smith in the backcourt is like adding a young Tony Parker of the Spurs to the Cavs rotation. Plus the Knicks would give the Cavs more insurance of winning a chip by trading Melo to Cavs for the Nets 2018 pick.

Boston ends up sending Cavs a 2020 2nd rounder to complete deal. I would've told Cavs to got take a hike. I mean IT went down with an injury during their(Cavs vs Celtics) playoff series and it was widely reported he'd have post-season ending surgery to repair his hip. All medical records matched up on both sides, not sure what the big deal was. Needless to say all the additional assets Boston had could not be fully contained.

I will say this Koby kid or whoever Cavs new GM is somewhat savvy on his first big ordeal...it may underscore how overrated Griffin may have been but we'll see soon enough.

Ha ha! I finally came up with something that actually came true!
