Phil Jackson's Job May Be In Jeopardy!!!

whaaaaaaaaaat?!
i really did not think this was going to happen at this point. i really was assuming that dolan was more than happy to let phil keep taking the blame for the dysfunction.
it is going to be very interesting to see this roster, as it is constructed now, to be playing in a system other than the triangle. we caught a little tease during that one stretch this previous season.
i have no idea what this means with the melo situation, but i'm going to assume he stays. i'm assuming hornacek stays as head coach? if dolan hires another president, that person may want to bring in their own coach of choice.
i'll tell you what though, i'm actually kind of excited to see what happens now. yesterday i was not, and now today i am. interesting stuff.
does this mean now that more FAs may become more interested in signing here?

I support going after Masai that's equivalent to a Hinkie type of GM, Masai is better in terms of cache with names across the league and he does extremely well on trades. Masai can and will rebuild this team. Can dolan get him though?

I think Griffin is kind of overrated but he does appear to have respect. Griffin could've kept Wiggins and maybe made a play for Ibaka at a lesser cost. Cleveland may be on the cusp of demise and Griffin did nothing to salvage nor left Cleveland with anything worth note...Lebron leaves they only have Irving as good value and he didn't draft Irving.

This makes me hate the Frankie pick even more, I had a hunch Phil's days could be numbered at any moment and something tells me Phil was somewhat in sabotage mode on his way out

that's interesting, because this firing actually makes me more excited about the frankie pick. i don't think he was intentionally trying to sabotage us by picking this kid. i get the feeling that if they keep horny as head coach this kid will end up playing pretty well for him. what this kid has an advantage over the other guys we wanted to draft at 8 is defense. and that is something we absolutely needed more than anything else, defense from our guards. what they need to do now is hire some serious coaches to develop the kid.

and now i'm really starting to like the dotson pick.
what do you think the chances are... instead of justin holiday thinking about skipping town... maybe we can get bro-jrue to come here?

Every time you criticize the Ntilikina pick it worries me. Ntilikina looks so good to me. He seems like the perfect pick for us regardless of system. Not sure what I'm missing where DSJ or Monk are clearly the better players.

Yeah Frank becomes a question mark if there's no triangle. I thought this piece was interesting discussing Frank, I only saw him play in You Tube videos but it looks like this guy must have seen him play and he made the same comments about him I did about NBA burst and athleticism, can he guard the elite athletes at this level, his handle and now even more so that the Knicks dumped PJ selecting a guy just because he'll be better in the triangle.

well he was doing pretty damn good in france, and i'm pretty sure they weren't playing strict triangle on that team. or were they?

That's a great take, and isn't that the truth.... who becomes the better player has more to do with coaching and "want to" based on the heart of each guy to improve. I'm beyond worrying about what DSJ or Monk become.... I'm just hoping that this kid is a grinder, a gym rat, and Frenchie turns himself into a solid professional.

If Phil were fired this time 3 weeks ago.... The same cry would go up that we grabbed KP over Winslow or Mudiay.

I'm not sure this is a good move.

Hear me out - I get that Phil had some serious issues running the team. His public beefs with Carmelo and Porzingis chief among them.

But Phil did one thing right - he kept our draft picks and drafted well.

And you know why I'm scared? ISIAH is waiting in the wings. He's the team president of the NY Liberty and is already back in NY/MSG. All it takes is for Dolan to make that one phone call to bring Isiah back and then we're all ****ed for life

Say what you want about Phil but he drafted good players and kept our draft picks. For the first time in 20 years we actually have all of our first-round draft choices here on out. Yeah, it's not *much* of an accomplishment, but it's something especially after trading first-rounders for "superstars" like Andrea Bargnani and Eddy Curry

ohhhhh man please don't say that LMAO.
but you know what? isiah was always going to be waiting in the wings anyway. eventually phil was going to retire and i'm pretty sure 'he who i shall no longer refer to by name' was still going to be here.
hopefully dolan has learned a lesson - yeah, i know, i can hear y'all laughing - and seen that keeping your 1st round picks is a pretty damn good idea.

Here's the thing Phil had some problems but let's think about what he did thus far:

Kept draft picks
Drafted young players

That's already better than Isiah

We had Grunwald who traded a first-rounder for Andrea Bargnani and then we had Isiah who traded first-rounders for Eddy ****ing Curry

If Dolan can lure Masai Ujiri here that'd be amazing but odds are it'll just be Steve Mills, who is Dolan's guy through and through

By this time next year we'll have someone calling the shots in our front office who is neither Isiah nor Steve Mills. I'm willing to predict at least that much.

We're over selling defense. Don't get me wrong we need to play defense but from the likes of how things may play out Frankie won't even see heavy rotation his first yr. This fan base speaking on this kid as if he's already won ALL-NBA defensive honors, yet wanting the team to bring back Rose who doesn't play a lick of D(reason we drafted Frankie right?)...and who doesn't/didn't get along with Hornacek. Hornacek also wants to play a faster pace based on his history of coaching not up Rose's alley. Can't have it both ways here folks. Defense is important but you have to score too.

What we needed most was as many higher rated young prospects from this draft as possible or an ELITE level upside talent. We didn't get either....Fran Fraschilla was high on #kporzee, said that the prospect Raps drafted in Cabocolo was 2yrs away from being 2yrs away, but when it came to Frankie he said he's going to be a solid starter maybe better. I trust Fran on his Euro assessments.

yeah, but we didn't have too much of a problem in the scoring department, especially when we loosened up on the triangle. our major problem was trying to prevent other teams from out-scoring us, especially in the 4th quarter, especially with being unable to put up ANY kind of resistance to guards penetrating. i understand what you're saying, but in this particular case i don't think we're overselling the need for perimeter defense at all. this kid with his long ass arms is going to be blocking shots out there too. IMO all we really have to do, based on what i've seen, is hope that he can keep himself out of foul trouble.

While a large part of me understands this is just another blow in a long series of blows, as NYK fans.... and that we should anticipate disaster, that Monk and DSJ will be superstars and Frank a bust....

But, let's also remember, Phil (and really Gaines) did draft KP and WHG. We can only hope they made the right choice this time, at 8.

All things equal, we went with size and took the guy with the better all around game .... less holes.

The firing of Phil blowback comes in many different forms Winger mentioned one of them and Tig the other. A potential Isaiah play and Melo is probably more a lock to stay. I'll add that this officially kills us being any attraction for the next 2yrs as a destination to play. Not because we fired Phil but everything that led up to his firing and timing/how it was done. We sent a message to the entire league we are the worse ran organization in all of sports. Phil should've been fired in March when it was time to exercise option on his contract. Dolan once again shows that the prisoners run the asylum...disgusting

Can we fire Hornacek while we're at it, he's not cut out for this seriously he's not and he's a dead man walking.

Hoopshype reporting that Tim Leiweke, former Toronto Raptors executive, will be assisting the Knicks front office now that PJ is gone. Leiweke is the executive who hired Ujiri to the Raptors in 2013.

Connect the dots. Ujiri is going to be our guy if we offer enough money and Toronto releases Ujiri from the end of his contract.
