"Jeff Van Gundy resigns as head coach of the NY Knicks after a 10-9 start with them.Van Gundy was in his seventh season as head coach over them and through that period managed to have a record of 248-172. His reason for leaving the Knicks was a loss of focus. According to Van Gundy his decision to resign was one that he was contemplating since the summer."

Van Gundy's resignation has to be one of the top 5 worst things that's ever happened to the Knicks franchise. The ship was already sinking after Scott Layden was hired but when Van Gundy decided to quit the Knicks, they went from a playoff contender to a lottery team in a matter of weeks. It also set the tone for what would be the most unwatchable Knicks basketball for years to come. I am surprised I was able to survive as a Knicks fan after all the atrocity they put their fans through. Thank God for guys like Donnie Walsh and Glen Grunwald who were able to bring back respectability and rebuild this franchise from the trash heap that it was.

"The NY Knicks beat the Denver Nuggets 129-125 to win their 8th straight game. The Knicks were led by Amar'e Stoudemire's 30 pts and Wilson Chandler's 27 pts. Raymond Felton had an amazing 17 assists."

Interesting to look at the box score of this one and see the number of players that were involved in the Melo trade that took place a couple of months after this game. Wilson Chandler was probably the toughest player to see go in that trade.

"With about a minute and a half to go in the game NYK's guard Mardy Collins fouled Denver Nuggets guard JR Smith by slapping his arms around his neck and causing him to fall to the floor. NYK's guard Nate Robinson then gets tackled to the ground by Smith. After Robinson and Smith were seperated Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony punched Mardy Collins in the face. NYK's forward Jared Jeffries and Nate Robinson began to chase Anthony down the court afterwards but were restrained by coaches and teammates.All ten players that were on the court were ejected for the remaining seconds of the game."

This was probably one of the rarest moments during the Isiah Thomas era that the Knicks made the national headlines. There is no doubt in my mind that this brawl had more to do with Isiah Thomas and George Karl's disdain towards eachother than anything else. I've always believed that both coaches should have gotten fined after the altercation even though there isn't any evidence that coach Karl was trying to show up Isiah by leaving his stars on the floor so late in the game. One thing that we can learn from this brawl is to never hate a player on another team because you never know if that player is going to help your team win a championship some day.

With .01 seconds left on the game clock and the score tied Jamal Crawford threw a pass over the rim from the sidelines and David Lee jumped in the air and tiped in the game winner using his right hand."

This was one of the rare bright spot for the Knicks during the Isiah Thomas era. I still think about this moment from time to time even though it took place years ago. The Knicks didn't have a bad team that season and I believe that they would have made the playoffs had everyone stood healthy. David Lee was my favorite Knick throughout those years.It is always good to know that he has managed to have a solid NBA career.
