Knicks come up with rare win against the Spurs on Oscars night

It doesn’t happen very often for a lottery team to have a winning record late in the season, but the Knicks are now 2-1 on their last three games, after defeating the San Antonio Spurs 130-118 last night at the Garden.

And it didn’t happen on any given night, it was the night when Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman got the award in the Best Adapted Screenplay category while Samuel L. Jackson taunted Lee.

The Knicks haven’t won a game at home since December 1st and this time they did it by scoring 30 points or more in each and every quarter. They won all four acts against one of the league’s top teams.

“It’s major. We’ve been having our fans come out and support every night and haven’t won here since Dec. 1. I wasn’t part of that one, so I’m glad that we could get it tonight and just give the fans something to see.”

– Dennis Smith Jr.

Damyean Dotson led the Knicks with 27 points and for the first time in his career connected games with 20 points or more, after his performance against the Timberwolves on Friday night.

Mitchell Robinson, who finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds also set a personal record, logging his third game of the season with at least 5 blocks.

Smith, Kevin Knox and Emmanuel Mudiay scored each 19 points, with Knox also grabbing 10 boards and Smith dishing 13 dimes. Lance Thomas finished with a rare 16 points and 7 rebounds performance.

The Spurs were led by DeMarr DeRozan’s 32 points while LaMarcus Aldridge added 18. No Spur finished in double-double, although both DeRozan and Jakob Poetl were each 1 rebound away.

In the end, the Knicks got standing ovations from the 18.000 people crowd as they avoided tying the 1993/94 Dallas Mavericks for the longest home losing streak. New York ended it after 18 losses.
