Mitchell Robinson sets new highs as the Knicks connect another win, against the Magic

Whether the Knicks are tanking or not it’s a question that few people could honestly answer considering the last four games they played. Last night, they successfully connected back to back wins for the first tie since November and for the second time this season, after defeating the Magic 108-103 at the Garden.

The Knicks were led by 15 points early in the second quarter and by 14 late in the third and then, the unexpected happened.

Allonzo Trier scored 12 of his total 18 points in the final act and was the key of the turnaround, making shots and connecting alley-oops when it mattered most.

“I was able to get some space, and that’s all I need to operate one-on-one.”

– Allonzo Trier

However, the story of the night was Mitchell Robinson. The 7’1 rookie became the first Knicks rookie to block at least 5 shots in consecutive games according to Elias Sports and joined Shaquille O’Neal, David Robinson and Tim Duncan among the other rookies who accomplished such a thing while finishing in double-doubles.

Last night, MitchRob had 17 points, 14 rebounds, 6 blocks and 3 steals after two nights earlier he put up similar numbers, a stunning performance for a second rounder in his rookie year.

Emmanuel Mudiay led the Knicks with 19 points and 8 rebounds off the bench, while new addition Henry Ellenson dropped 13 buckets, collected 9 boards and dished 5 assists in his debut. He couldn’t believe himself he would get so much play time on his first game.

“Coach Fiz left me in there for a while. I looked back a couple of times because I didn’t expect it. He just gave me an opportunity to go out there and play. It was a lot of fun. I couldn’t tell you the last time I played 36 minutes.”

– Henry Ellenson

No starter finished in double figures.

For the Magic Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vucevic scored 26 points each and Jonatan Isaac added 16. Their bench combined just 7 points.
