Porzingis catches fire as Knicks beat the Bulls 115-107

Kristaps Porzingis has finally showed signs that he’s not hitting the rookie wall – at least for one night – and returned to the impressive mode he played under Derek Fisher.

The Latvian rookie tied his career high pouring 29 points and adding 10 rebounds. This was his first double-double game since January 7th, when he went 21 and 13 against the Nuggets in Denver.

“He looked like he went through a period where his legs were dead. Now it looks like he’s got his second wind.”

In a national televised game Porzingis and Carmelo Anthony combined 53 points as the Knicks stunned the Bulls in Chicago 115-107.

Up by just 2 points at halftime, the Knicks exploded in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Bulls 35-18 with Anthony, Jose Calderon and Arron Afflalo, all hitting long distance jump shots. Melo scored 17 of his total 24 points in that period.

The 20 point lead registered at the end of the 3rd was enough to keep the energy going until the final buzzer as the Bulls – although narrowing the gap to 8 in the closing minutes – never threatened to take the game back.

Four other Knicks finished in double figures. Robin Lopez hit 11 and also grabbed 13 rebounds, Afflalo had 12 points and 8 boards off the bench, Calderon scored 11 and dished 8 assists while Derrick Williams contributed with 10 buckets.

Last night’s win was the first road win against a team with a winning record since January 5th when New York won in Miami.

The Knicks and Bulls will meet again tonight at 7:30 at the Garden.
