Knicks vs Pacers, series preview

Get ready for a blast from the past, folks! The second round series between the New York Knicks and the Indiana Pacers is about to take us on a trip down memory lane.

Remember those electrifying matchups from the 90s? When Reggie Miller and Patrick Ewing battled it out on the hardwood? Well, get ready for a taste of that nostalgia because these two teams are about to duke it out once again.

The last time these squads crossed paths was way back in 2013. The Knicks, riding high as the second seed, clashed with the Pacers in a hard-fought series. Indiana managed to snag Game 1 on New York’s home turf, but the Knicks bounced back to take Game 2 and Game 5. However, they stumbled on the road and ultimately fell short in Game 6. Ah, memories.

Fast forward to today, and it’s a whole new ball game. The Knicks, led by a dynamic Wildcat trio of Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo, have emerged as a real force. Add in the unstoppable OG Anunoby and a formidable frontcourt featuring Isaiah Hartenstein and Mitchell Robinson, and you’ve got a squad that’s ready to make some serious noise.

But let’s not overlook the Pacers. Led by the sensational Tyrese Haliburton, who’s been nothing short of a game-changer since his arrival, and bolstered by a formidable lineup featuring Pascal Siakam and Myles Turner. Siakam, a former champion with the Toronto Raptors, brings a versatile skill set to the table. His ability to score from anywhere on the court and contribute on the defensive end makes him a key player for the Pacers.

Meanwhile, Turner adds a strong defensive presence in the paint with his shot-blocking abilities. While he’s known for his scoring prowess, he shouldn’t be compared to Roy Hibbert and his nefarious block on Carmelo Anthony in game 6. And let’s not forget about former Knicks Obi Toppin and Matt McDermott, who are sure to add some spice to the mix.

The spotlight is firmly set on the matchup between Jalen Brunson and Tyrese Haliburton.

In the first round, Haliburton showcased his playmaking prowess, averaging 16.1 points and 9.3 assists per game. While these numbers are impressive, they do mark a slight dip from his regular season averages of 20.1 points and 10.9 assists. Additionally, Haliburton faced some shooting woes, particularly from beyond the arc.

On the flip side, Brunson has been on an absolute tear in the playoffs. Despite a rocky start in the first two games against the Sixers, he’s exploded onto the scene, averaging a jaw-dropping 41.8 points over the last four games. His ability to create scoring opportunities and knock down clutch shots has been nothing short of spectacular.

As the series unfolds, keep an eye on Coach Thibodeau’s rotations. With injuries sidelining key players like Bojan Bogdanovic, the Knicks bench depth will be put to the test. Will Alec Burks step up in Bogdanovic’s absence? Will Achiuwa get some minutes to bolster the frontcourt? Only time will tell.

So buckle up, folks. It’s sure to be a wild ride as these two titans clash in what promises to be an epic battle for supremacy. Let the games begin!
