Official 2017 NBA Draft Thread - June 22

Bagley already is regarded as a Top 3 NBA draft pick — next year! Technically a high school senior, he’s hoping the NCAA will grant him “re-classification” status so he can play this season at Duke then enter the draft.

------
Add this to the other 2 studs, and there's 3 guys to tank for.

If Melo is on this roster to start the season and last up to the deadline kiss that Top 3 pick goodbye, maybe even Top 5 goodbye. As I've said all along this yr's pick is in play when it comes to moving Melo. Knicks mgmt and fans alike can try and play justice today only to create injustice tomorrow

"In light of that, NBA 2K has taken their own spin on the situation by tweeting out a photo with the Hoodie Melo garnering the highest rating in the upcoming NBA 2K18 video game."

Melo rated 84 but hoody Melo highest rated player in the game! Maybe with hoody Melo NYK have a parade next July!

I hear they're also gonna feature the 1998-99 Knicks and i'm getting really excited about it!

In a survey of incoming rookies, Dennis Smith Jr. was selected as the favorite to win the 2017-18 Rookie of the Year award.

39 rookies took part in the survey and 25.7 percent of them tabbed Smith as the ROY front-runner. Lonzo Ball finished in second-place, with 20 percent of the vote. After slipping to ninth in the 2017 draft, Smith was dominant at the Las Vegas Summer League, averaging 17.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 2.2 steals. Assuming he plays well in the preseason, Smith will be flying up draft boards in October.

I have a tendency to go with second year players that were injured their rookie seasons but are eligible for ROY. My pick Ben Simmons, BG won it and Embiid was on his way but for a midseason injury.

I did say DSJ would have the better year compared to Frank, primarily because the Mavs are set to feature him in the offense.

Which may be the reason many rookies won't rank high in honors including Simmons...he's playing on a team with too much young talent(Embiid, Fultz, Saric, Cabarrol) he won't win it either. It'll probably be Ball, if the Lakers can win about 32-38gms and his numbers are good. Wouldn't count out Fox here along with Jackson but DSJ is probably the biggest threat to Ball outside of being the frontrunner himself IMO.

Man Knits gonna have the training camp of his life...all those top flight PGs he's gonna have to win the job over sheesh! :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

"Well, it?s totally fair that Doncic is being mentioned in the conversation for the No. 1 pick. He?s earned it. He won?t fall far. It?s only August, but as best I can discern, it will still be difficult for a team to draft him ahead of say, a successfully reclassified Marvin Bagley. Right now I?d wager on Bagley going first, given he?s a fluid athlete who essentially has every skill you want in a modern big man. Porter Jr. might be the best nearly 7-foot true shooter we?ve seen since Kevin Durant, so he has that going for him. DeAndre Ayton and Mohamed Bamba are both exceptional prospects. Next year?s draft may not be as deep as the last one, but keep in mind there?s a lot of talent at the top."

That's Doncic blocking the shot, then going down on the other end backing down our Unicorn and scoring on him. Constant reminder our 2018 pick will prove critical going forward and this kid is a projected top 3 pick next summer

I agree.... securing a top 5 pick, then selecting the right prospect, is critical. It's the single most important thing NYK needs to do to ensure a bright future.

This should be, in theory, that final foundation piece.

afterwards, KP and gang should be making strides to get team out of lottery.... then it's time to lure in a big free agent fish.

This is how you build a winner...

Nothing wrong with talking about it, but I'm saying right now that we're very likely to have a similar pick in the 2018 draft that we had in the 2017 draft. With a roster including so many young guys, we'll once again be the team to blow a chance to secure a top 5 pick by winning games late in the season.

We need KP, WHG, THJ, and, to a lesser extent, Ntilikina to have good seasons, both individually and as a team. If we get that, adding another high lottery pick will seem less like a necessity since then we'll have something resembling a rebuilding team already. Plus, if those guys all do what we hope they can do, we'll actually win more than 30 games this season.

i still think it'd be nice if these guys got some playoff experience, especially KP since this will be his 3rd year in the league already.
combine a playoff appearance with signs that the organization is once and for all heading in a non-dysfunctional direction... you might be able to attract a young player in FA coming off of a rookie contract.
injuries happen. you never know when 1 or more key guys are going to go down and miss a bunch of important games. there comes a time when you just have to start going for it while you can.
melo's probably not going to be here next season. my guess is he'll be traded by ASB. some team with a good chance at a nice spot for the playoffs is going to lose a player due to injury - it happens pretty much every year - and they're going to come knockin' on the door. let's see what happens between now and then.

This kid has moxy and bite, the drag hesi dribble was nasty

If we win the projected 30 to mid 30s wins this season, chalk this franchise up as doomed for the next decade minimum

When you're a Knicks fan, a doomed decade is chump change. I'm hoping we can avoid the doomed century of a championship drought and at least win one before I die.

Let's see what this new front office team does. I don't have a lot of confidence since Dolan is still in charge and Mills is still here, though I'm hoping Perry can turn this franchise around. I'm looking at Frank and THJ for an indication of what the Knicks do in the next 5 years. If they're both busts I think you can pretty much resign yourself to losing seasons over the next 5 years.

I do see a similar season coming up having a certain trio in the starting lineup receiving 30 minute or more in KP, Melo, THJ, who act n perform as if scoring are all they have to do on the court (their performance equal 20 win season).
Im hoping players Noah, Quinn, WHG, Lee, Session, and rookies Dotson/Frank Nitty all have a good season averaging over 20 minute per game.
Im not happy having head coach Hornacek for another season hopefully he could get the frontcourt players manning the paint n glass plus scoring inside the paint.

I couldn't post this ESPN Insider article on Doncic here, something with KOL's security software prevented me from posting it. I posted it on another website. Here's the link, great scouting report on the kid, if we can luck up and get him in this years draft I think he can help immediately despite being 19 years old when he's drafted next June. The Dragon said mark his words, Doncic will be one of the best in world someday.

Porter and Bagley are definitely going to have some say here, along with maybe 2-3 more surprises in this summer's draft but this Doncic kid is likely the real deal.
