Mark Stein tweeted out that Melo's camp is attempting to negotiate a buyout with NYK... a follower of his responded with a picture of Lebron on a cell phone with the caption, "This is Melo's Camp." Too funny.
Avoiding having to use the stretch on his contract is a good thing....
Gaining some cap space is also considered an asset;
Addition by subtraction is a good thing to, especially if you think Melo will stunt the kids development.
But cap space only works if we plan on using it, either to snag a young free agent or to absorb a bad contract (if that comes with assets)....
And, something is troubling with these star players holding teams hostage. Why should Melo refuse a trade, so nYk get nothing for his departure, only so he gets his cake and eats it to?
Why should Melo get paid and get to go to Was or Cle? Why should NY help those teams.
We're only talking about 1 season.... let Melo suffer more losing, if he won't waive his NTC.
I realize we gave him the NTC.... and a trade may be too hard... but there's no reason to rush this. Teams that fail in free agency may be more amenable to a trade later.
I get what you guys are saying but once again, it's business and you have to detach any sentimental/emotional feelings here. What we pay him to go away is irrelevant for what we need on the court and for our culture moving forward. This has nothing to do with Melo's rep or label as a player, nothing at all at this point. Phil last commented that he respects Melo, so there you go(even if on the inside he doesn't mean it, although contract given Melo suggest at one point he did).
His representatives went to our execs(if true), that tells you where he's at "mentally". Danny Ainge didn't want to give up a competitive offer for #kporzee he's not doing that for Melo amidst a tumultuous season, get real.
Melo actually has done us a really bad disservice here...he just told the whole league they don't have to offer anything because guess what I may end up being bought out. Teams will wait this out because they can, meanwhile we really can't, not for culture purposes. Gotta see the forest through the trees on this one. At some point we have to stop operating through the guise of winning media battles(optics) on tough issues facing this organization.
It's mentioned Philly and Washington are on his list(for family reasons) btw, not Cleveland...why worry where he might end up?
For me, this has nothing to do with optics. I'm not concerned with how it looks one way or another... I just care about what's best for the team.
And, for me at least, this isn't emotional.... I, too, wish people would remove emotions from the equation. There seems to be a cry from the Melo haters that NYK is better without him, no matter how they get rid of him. This is crazy talk.
Last year was insane and Melo stood tall and handled everything like a pro. It was borderline admirable what he endured.... I don't buy that he's a cancer or a bad locker room guy.
Now, Phil can clamor and complain that Melo is causing players to disengage from coaching and not accept the triangle.... and, while there may be truth to this feeling.... well, the negatives don't outweigh the positives.
Melo is the lightning rod taking heat off of KP. He's also a much better player than Lance Thomas or whatever vet we bring in to replace him.
So, what to do? At worst, Melo stays all year and his presence means we pick 6th instead of 3rd? We all know he's opting out after next season.... so, we're talking about 1 more season with Melo.
Why not hold out hope.... call everybody's bluff. This is the responsible thing to do if you are PHil. Hold out and try to get an asset for Melo this summer or in feb. If not, and nothing gives, then big deal. KP and Melo play 1 more season together.
Heck, if KP blows up this season and plays like a true all star.... maybe having Melo means 6th seed.... and not having Melo means missing playoffs. And, the goal should be to get the kids playoff experience and start building a winning culture.
Removing Melo isn't going to change the culture if this team is losing 55 games without Melo any way.
We must remove emotion here folks.... we have an asset in melo. What's it worth? Well, hold on to him thru trade deadline and find out. If nobody budges.... buy him out after trade deadline passes.
Why didn't Melo and his so called TEAM go to Phil and expand the list of teams he's willing to be traded to?
My wish was granted......according to the Daily NewsUnless he's willing to take 20 cents on the dollar with his buyout which would be about 10M he's worth more to the Knicks in NY than somewhere else after we pay him 50M to leave, Phil buys him out for 50M he's an idiot. The guy is a pro, plays hurt, by all accounts is a good teammate and I hope no one around here calls him a cancer. Want to cut out a cancer fire PJ at least his salary doesn't count against the cap.
The trade Melo at all costs is going to change now that PJ is gone. The talk of a buyout or stretching him was debunked, with PJ gone I think Melo gets more comfortable with the idea of staying in NY an idea he already stated but he'll now be much happier with PJ gone. I don't see a happy Melo waiving his NTC to play in far off SA. His NTC is something we're going to have to live with and is another fail of PJ.S.Bondy in NY Daily News:
A league source said one team to monitor is the Spurs, who are trying to unload an unhappy LaMarcus Aldridge and finding the trade market thin. However, it's unclear if Anthony would waive his no-trade clause to go to San Antonio, or anywhere, for that matter.

This is what I'm thinking as well. Watch Melo play all year for us, pickup his option for next year, and then 2 years from now we'll be talking about whether we're going to resign him. This franchise is unbelievable.
Right on top of it my man. I knew the Rockets wanted him and Paul George. Opt in deal, meaning the Rox were where he wanted to be. This has implications for BG and maybe Melo, Clips are breaking up that team and I would be looking to deal DJ as well.
