Knicks rally from 19 down, top Heat in OT thriller
In a game that tested their resilience, the New York Knicks pulled off their biggest comeback of the season, erasing a 19-point deficit to outlast the Miami Heat 116-112 in overtime. Jalen Brunson led the charge with 31 points, while OG Anunoby delivered an all-around performance with 23 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks.
With 27 seconds left, Brunson weaved through the defense and lofted in a clutch layup jumper to bring the game back to even and force OT.
The Knicks trailed 79-60 five minutes into the third quarter after former Knick Alec Burks drilled a three-pointer, tying Miami’s largest lead of the night. But just when it seemed like the game might slip away, New York battled back to trim the deficit to 84-81 with 52 seconds left in the third quarter, fueled by a crucial 10-0 run.
That comeback push was powered by Anunoby, who not only showcased his defensive prowess with 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks but also provided a scoring spark with 13 points in the quarter.
Miami tried to pull away again in the fourth, building a 99-88 lead with under seven minutes remaining, but the Knicks had one more response.
Brunson and Miles McBride spearheaded the comeback, with McBride hitting a three-pointer to cut it to single digits and then draining a clutch 16-foot jumper to give the Knicks their first lead of the night, 101-100, with 2:58 left. McBride finished with 12 points off the bench, coming up big in the clutch.
The Knicks had a chance to win it in regulation, but Deuce’s corner three fell short, sending the game into overtime.
In the extra frame, New York outscored Miami 11-7, with Anunoby putting the final stamp on the game with a two-handed slam with 17 seconds left. That dunk came just after Burks hit another clutch three for the Heat, keeping the game tense until the final moments.
For Miami, Bam Adebayo led the way with 30 points, while Tyler Herro added 22. Burks and Kel’el Ware each chipped in 12 points, with Burks hitting big shots late to keep the Heat in it.
Up-next: Knicks (40-20) will host the Warriors (32-28) on Tuesday from 7:30.
