Knicks’ streak snapped in a nail-biter against Lakers

In a clash that had fans on the edge of their seats, the Knicks faced a tough Lakers squad and lost 113-105 last night at the Garden, resulting in a heart-wrenching end to their impressive 9-game winning streak.

Jalen Brunson had another solid performance with 36 points and 10 assists, while Donte DiVincenzo added 26 points for the home team.

The game was a seesaw battle, marked by 20 lead changes, with neither team managing to establish a double-digit lead. DiVincenzo’s three-pointer at the 7:25 mark in the fourth quarter momentarily tipped the scales in favor of the Knicks, putting them ahead at 96-94. However, this lead was short-lived, as the Lakers orchestrated an 11-0 run over the next seven minutes, effectively sealing the game.

“The start of the fourth, we’re up six, there was a big turnover, we gave up a three in transition. They got momentum, and it turned the game right there.”

Tom Thibodeau

Coach Tom Thibodeau navigated the challenge of multiple player absences by fielding a short lineup, relying heavily on only three substitutes. Malachi Flynn made a brief but impactful appearance, converting a three-point play in his mere 3 minutes on the court. Miles McBride contributed 10 points in his 20-minute stint, while Jericho Sims logged 15 minutes, providing support to Isaiah Hartenstein, who faced foul trouble.

Josh Hart continued with another strong performance, notching up 12 points and 11 rebounds. His relentless hustle plays on both ends of the floor proved instrumental in the Knicks taking charge, allowing them to lead 86-80 at the end of the third quarter.

The Lakers, led by LeBron James with 24 points and Austin Reaves with 22, showcased their defensive prowess in the fourth quarter. Anthony Davis, with 12 points, 18 rebounds, and 4 blocks, emerged as a defensive stalwart, limiting the Knicks to a challenging 7-22 shooting performance in the final quarter.

Up-next: The Knicks (32-18) will host the Memphis Grizzlies (18-31) on Tuesday night.
