Knicks survive Lakers, 114-109 behind Brunson’s 29 point night
In a thrilling matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers, the New York Knicks emerged victorious with a 114-109 win at the Crypto.com Arena.
Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with an impressive 29 points, with a 10-of-21 shooting performance. Julius Randle contributed a double-double of 27 points and 14 rebounds, while Immanuel Quickley added 20 points coming off the bench. Isaiah Hartenstein, stepping up in the absence of Mitchell Robinson, played a crucial role with 9 points and a game-high 17 rebounds.
Hartenstein’s noteworthy performance was particularly significant as he took on the responsibility in the absence of Robinson, who missed his fifth consecutive game due to an ankle injury. Unfortunately, the Knicks faced additional setbacks as Jericho Sims, the other center, sprained his ankle early in the game.
The Lakers made a late surge with Anthony Davis hitting a three-pointer with 14.1 seconds remaining, cutting the Knicks’ lead to 112-109. However, Josh Hart, with nerves of steel, sank both free throws, securing the win for New York.
The Knicks built a comfortable lead of 103-93 with 5:13 left in the game, but the Lakers fought back, scoring six consecutive points to make it a four-point game. The Knicks’ solid performance in the third quarter, outscoring the Lakers 33-22, was a key factor in securing the victory.
LeBron James led the Lakers with 25 points, while Anthony Davis had an impressive double-double with 32 points and 14 rebounds. Austin Reaves added 20 points coming off the bench.
The Lakers, now 1-3 since winning the In-Season Tournament, couldn’t overcome the Knicks’ determined effort.
