McBride shines in big win after huge early scare
Last night’s game between the New York Knicks and the Cleveland Cavaliers delivered its fair share of drama and intensity, culminating in a hard-fought 107-98 victory for the Knicks.
The game got off to a rocky start for the Knicks when Jalen Brunson suffered a knee bump on the team’s first possession, forcing him to leave the court and sit out the remainder of the game. However, the team received a stroke of luck as X-rays revealed no serious injury, providing a sigh of relief for Knicks fans.
With Brunson sidelined, Miles McBride stepped up to the plate, seamlessly filling Brunson’s role and making a significant impact on the game. McBride logged an impressive 47 minutes of playing time, contributing 16 points, 5 assists and no turnovers to help propel the Knicks to victory.
“It’s huge. You look at it, we’re down four starters, they’re down one starter. You look at the matchups and the thing about us, we’re gritty.”
– Donte DiVincenzo
Leading the charge for the Knicks was Donte DiVincenzo, who scored 28 points on a 11-22 shooting, including 6 three pointers. Joining him in the offensive onslaught were Josh Hart, who notched a triple-double with 13 points, 19 rebounds, and an impressive 10 assists, and Precious Achiuwa, who chipped in with 11 points.
Despite a late surge from the Cavaliers, highlighted by Evan Mobley’s dunk that cut the Knicks’ lead to just three points with under two minutes remaining, the Knicks remained composed and resilient down the stretch. A couple of clutch three-pointers from Hart, then McBride in the closing minute secured the victory for the Knicks, sealing the deal and thwarting any hopes of a Cavaliers comeback.
The Cavaliers, who played without Donovan Mitchell were led by Sam Merrill who dropped 21 buckets off the bench. Darius Garland scored 19, Jarrett Allen had 18 points and Evan Mobbley finished in double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Up-next: The Knicks (36-25) will host the Atlanta Hawks (26-34) on Tuesday from 7:30pm.
