Knicks can’t hold Celtics, lose 89-97

Carmelo Anthony is not the only piece who’s absence troubles the Knicks. Ever since Jose Calderon got injured and started to miss games, Derek Fisher’s team is having a hard time in finding the key to victory.

The Knicks are now 1-3 without Calderon, the only win coming against a rather mediocre Suns team. Langston Galloway who moved in the starting lineup scored just one point last night against the Celtics and played 34 minutes.

The poor shooting slump still goes on as New York shot just 37% from the field, on top of which they added 17 turnovers.

Kristaps Porzingis hasn’t showed any glance of shine and in the last 7 matchups (out of which the Knicks lost 6) he made under 5 field goals per game. Last night he scored 10. He played for 27 minutes but sat most of the fourth quarter. And this happened on the same night he was awarded for the third consecutive time with the Eastern Conference’s Rookie of the Month title.

“It was a team situation. The third quarter was came out flat, couldn’t figure out way to get anything going. Kristaps played a lot of those minutes. We got him in a for a few minutes to start the fourth and not much was happening for that connection. So it wasn’t about Kris being good or bad, the five guys that were out there just weren’t getting the job done.”

– Derek Fisher

The Knicks held a two point advantage at halftime and that was because of Robin Lopez presence in the paint, especially on the offensive end. He had 9 offensive rebounds in the first half but added just a couple in the second half. By the end of the game he had 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Anthony finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds but his shooting was far from his usual.

“Personally it was a very bad game for me. When I’m playing at not at my best, it hurts the team and it showed tonight.”

– Carmelo Anthony

New York now drops to 23-28 and will play the Pistons (26-23) tomorrow night at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
