Knicks Summer League 2015

That Spurs team wasn't very good. Monday's game will be a better test for the Knicks and Zinger, Black and Randle are big, strong players that will try to exploit their strength advantage against the kid.

Zinger could take a page from Randle's conditioning program while he was re-habbing. Reggie Miller commented that Randle had gained weight while he was re-habbing from his broken leg and he said you would expect that because of the inactivity. An LA reporter corrected Reggie and said Randle dropped 15 lbs but put on muscle which made him look bigger. That's the best scenario for Zinger to put on lean muscle mass, get stronger and not gain that much weight.

Randle is also working out in sessions with Ron Artest and they said he's extremely powerful uprooting Ron from various spots on the floor and plowing through him around the basket. That's what I heard Reggie say during yesterday's SL telecast.

Mudiay is carving up his opponents again with his passing. I'm telling you guys, his court vision is on another level. Unreal how he moves like a gazelle and no matter where he's at on the floor he can make passes most guards could only dream of.

Also when it comes to talk about ceilings....did anyone ever consider the major advantage Mudiay and even Russell for the matter has over other players in their class.....

They have not only the ability to make themselves better but also making their teammates better on every single possession they are out on the court because of their dominion over the basketball.

Aw cmon who needs a GREAT PG to run the big Chief triangle lol...today's nba teams win championships with 7 foot white boys, not great backcourt players...all you need is a BJ Armstrong type to win with the triangle...MJ and Scottie had nothing to do with it:(

Porzingis clearly showed that he has high upside. He impacted the game on both ends of the floor. Once jd starts hitting outside shots he will put up 20 points in summer league game.

Grant is good too but threw the ball away at times... he needs to slow down. Early played well and other guys chipped in for solid win..Ndour. came up big at the end for s boost...I'm most impressed with the Latvian

Exactly. Which is why we needed to draft a more NBA ready player over a PROJECT to match with our 31 year old MAX player:(
Porzingis scored 12 points in 19 minutes and had 2 blocks... he might be an impactful project this season...he will contribute

This is nonsense. Carmelo Anthony is not a championship-caliber player. You could have Hakeem Olajuwon on this team and we'd still probably lose in the 2nd round - this is a 17-win team that sucked last year even when Carmelo was on the floor. Having Justise Winslow will not be the difference maker in making this team into a playoff team. You take the player with the highest ceiling unless you're a moron and think an extra 3-4 wins this year is more important than the long-term future of the franchise.

The most I'm going to say about his first game is he wasn't a bust and he can shoot FT's. One of his buckets was lucky, throwing it up and banking it off glass and his alley pop was far from highlight material. He was winded at the half and that Spurs team was not high level competition.

Second game is tonight against better competition with Tariq Black and Julius Randle. That'all be a better test for him. I'd like to see him come out more aggressive and take a few more shots.

You also want to avoid "the lowest floor"...I'm not saying Porz is going to be a bust but out of Phil's own mouth in taking him he said it's either going to be "an extreme reward" or "an extreme risk."

Just because there were some reports about Porz having potential being the best player from this draft and Phil selecting him because of it.... doesn't make it true.

I bet if any other GM would have taken him.... especially those in the Top 3, not many Knick fans would think he's going to be the best player from this draft.

For the record he worked out for Magic, Lakers, and us in person. Why did the Lakers pass him up? Matter of fact he wasn't even in the mix for them. It was Russell and Okafor. No top team got any offers to trade up to target him. Matter of fact there was only 1 big rumored for trade up target(Kaminsky) pick #9....who Charlotte was offered 6 picks for by Boston. Phil didn't get a 6 pick offer for 4. Phil was trying to trade down in the 24th hour, he was talked into taking him by Clerance Gaines...who IMO is the leaky wheel scout who put it out there about Porz's potential canvasing it as "scouts believe"

When you think about it combined with the Phx rumor.....Phil could of had

Bledsoe/13/16/Sullinger(<----we were trying to trade for him)

Pick 28/Smart/Future picks to Phx

and

Pick 4/THjr to Boston

When you apply the eye test Mudiay looks to be the much better player than (majority of the players in this draft) at this point. Same age, but Mudiay looks to much more NBA ready physically. And when was the last time we had a floor general like that with such court vision??? And why can't a 7'1" kid with a 38" vert throw down an ally-pop??? Hmmmmm

You can tell he's gonna be special

His natural speed, power, understanding angles, passing, athleticism, command, poise, strength, size, handle, playmaking vision. It's all there like today not tomorrow, not now, but right now.

Well we've had the "potential vs production " debate a million times on this board and I always fall on the production side of the equation. Mudiay is already being called a steal for the Nuggets while us knicks fans are forced to cheer circus bank shots, free throws, and ally oops not even flushed by a 7 footer with a "38" inch vertical. Talk about lowered expectations. I feel a little bad for the Zinger but PJAx put him in a spot drafting a project for a fanbase that was expecting a lot more. It's going to take a lot for me not to think this is the next in the long line of KNIcKs great hopes to save our franchise. Weiss, Van Horn, Gallinari, Bargiani, now the Zinger. At least his name doesn't end in an "I" :)

You could save us all the long-winded retorts, by simply posting each time your mantra: "I believe Phil made a colossal error in judgment by taking (Porz) an unnecessary risk. He should've played it safe and just draft Emmanual Mudiay - the #2 HS recruit 13 months ago."

Unlike you or I, PHIL personally met each kid, watched them play in person, vetted their backgrounds, and relied on the opinion of respected individuals (he trusts or has working for him).

Your logic is wrong: We overrated PORZ b/c 3 teams took players not named PORZ (like LAKERS). Well, by your own logic... Why take Mudiay at 4? SAC & ORL didn't think he was a top-6 prospect. I mean, if Mudiay is so highly-touted than why did ORL draft Super Mario instead?

PORZ will make others better this year: (1) He'll knock down an open shot (add to teammates assist totals), (2) He'll block a shot, or alter it, when a teammate gets beat.

We get it. I even agree... We should've taken Mudiay over Porz... but I disagree with your entire argument b/c I've heard from plenty of NBA industry insiders, who almost universally agree, that at 4... Porzingis was just as good a pick, as justifiable a guy to take there, as anybody left on the big board

This is completely fair. I'll also add that if you go bust w/ Mudiay, you can still sleep at night; but going bust with PORZ is repeating the Darko boner. Phil's legacy... tenure... tied to this selection. His rep as a GM in PORZ's hands...

Both Mudiay-Porz love the game (gym rats); At 4, to me, there were 5 options (Winslow, WCS, Mario the other 3). There were other prospects too, if we traded down (but who knows what was really offered, based on how the first 3 picks went).

Mudiay has some hanger-ons (his brother) that might negatively influence the kid... but other than that (and the SMU hiccup)... a blue chip talent.

I have to believe Phil saw something special in PORZ when he met and talked to him... who knows. Time will tell. Don't compare him to the other Euro trash... a few teams did that and missed out on Dirk-Pau. Maybe it's time we're due for some bon fortuna.

Dude those other teams didn't take him because, they had things in place already or chaos....

Orlando has Elfrid Payton and Victor Oladipo(both are stud muffins)

George Karl and the Kings were working on trying to trade Boogie and in talks with Denver for Ty Lawson and Faried... a front office/franchise in flux and Mudiay refused to work out for them.

You know Curry fell to 7.....Cousins fell to 5.....Ty Lawson fell to 18....Brook Lopez fell to 10

Just because players fall doesn't mean yeah we did a great job overlooking them because other teams did too. What kind of asinine logic is that?

What I'm not buying is Porzingis being the best in this draft class. He has ability to be good but don't try and oversell him because we had to be TALKED INTO TAKING HIM and the triangle particulars.

Then resorting to stuff about his brothers draining his path...see this is exactly what I'm talking about. His brothers have been nothing but positive influences in his life with that said I'll pull your typical schpill....

"ummmmm I've heard or read numerous reports he comes from a good family....therefore since I've read or heard it then it must all be 100% factual."

Hence even passing on Mudiay or any other prospect for the matter I laid out a trade down scenario that was very doable. I suggested trading with Orlando to 5 involving Moe Harkless once again doable. I'm looking at the complete scope here and how Phil's approach here lies on the side of suspect.

It’s actually your logic…and it’s what makes it nearly impossible to follow your rantings b/c your logic flip-flops constantly… I submit into evidence:

Your logic is hard to follow… but it sounds like you’re saying the notion that PORZ was a top prospect in this draft is nonsense b/c 3 teams opted not to take them. This was your point of emphasis, to refute those defending the pick (who noted that scouts said PORZ might be the best in this class)… Logic goes: LAK took Russell, ergo LAK thought differently than those scouts hyping PORZ; ergo, PORZ is overhyped.

LOL. But, if I replace PORZ and LAK with Mudiay and ORL… you reply with:

“Dude those other teams didn't take him because, they had things in placealready or chaos.... Orlando has Elfrid Payton and Victor Oladipo(both are studmuffins)”

OK…but PHI has Embiid, Noel, Saric, and they still took Okafor over Mudiay… and that means what exactly, when we return to your point about why ORL grabbed Mario over Mudiay? Makes more sense for PHI go with the PG, if he’s so good that it is a mistake to pass on him… Why not go small, take the BPA? So, for ORL…going Euro was the smart choice?

“You know Curry fell to 7.....Cousins fell to 5.....Ty Lawson fell to18....Brook Lopez fell to 10”

Yeah, and maybe we’ll say 1 day that PORZ fell to 4[SUP]th[/SUP].

Simply foolish to ASSume what offers might have been realistic. Why would ORL give us anything when they could sit there and take their guy, or maybe they liked PORZ and Mario and were content either way… I heard ONLY IF Okafor fell could we trade out…

Bottom line: I think Mudiay should have been our selection. But I also realize in 5 years… there were a block of 5-7 guys in that tier-2… all on everybody’s big board… who were all viable togo at 4… I felt 4-5 guys should be our choice if we didn’t trade down (and NO…I’m not making the same old NYK mistake and taking that Bledsoe contract and going with Lyles over Mudiay/PORZ… or settling on Sullinger and a bunch of late first rounders)…

I’ve always known Phil would come here to die and kill us one more time before he leaves BBALL. I could care less if he succeeds or fails. ButI’m not a petulant child, and will kick and scream b/c I didn’t get what I wanted. I’m aware of the fact that I am fallible, and may not know everything PJ knew at the time he made his decision… Watching a few Youtube clips doesn’t make anyone an expert… I also went on record before the draft with my feelings.

While I disagree with the decision, I understand the logic. Does that make me a schill for Phil? A homer? Maybe to a biased hater… perhaps… Gun to our heads… NOBODY KNOWS who’ll have the better future. You’re on record saying Mudiay was the right call… Let’s meet back here in 2022… July 13[SUP]th[/SUP]…and we’ll see who was right… you or Phil (and by proxy, me).

I don't think Broadway is confusing at all. It is simple what he is saying. Certain guys fall for a reason, and then you have teams that do have their own agenda. Orlando was one of the teams prozingis worked out for and he spent a couple of days in orlando according to reports. so maybe he is what orlando wanted, certainly kicking the tires in a trade to see if we could get something else out of orlando is not far fetched.

Phili I think was looking to take best player available, it could easily be argued that okafor was the best player in this draft.

I think he is saying you are overrating porzingis because it seems as if many fans like yourself are trying to talk him up as if you were trying to convince yourself you like the pick. I think Broadway doesn't dislike porzingis, I just think he feels there is talent in this draft , taken ahead and after him that will be just as good. I don't think anyone is saying that about picks like towns or even russel, remember Russel was supposed to be "phils guy"..

you do understand why the kings or orlando didn't take mudai? the kings are in flux and looking to get lawson, the magic have their own stud PG.... that is just simple...

If you are saying that orlando was content with taking either Herzonja or porzingis, then I wonder which scouts as you claim are saying that porzingis is the best talent in this draft.. because if that was the word going around then orlando should have been eager to trade up.. right? I mean lets be real, if they were offered towns, do you think they wouldn't want to trade up?

I think when we keep hearing fans like you talk about this guy being the best talent in the draft and what not, it sure sounds like you are trying to sell that hard, because I honestly don't think you would feel that way had we drafted another player..

The difference here Mafra I'm not touting unnamed sources trumping up Mudiay as a justification to take him as you are with Porzingis as if he was the absolute no brainer at 4. The sources you are referring to are Fran Fraschilla(Heavy Euro Agenda Driven Analyst) spewing unnamed sources and then it being regurgitated by others in the media.

Once again explain why Phil was talked into taking Porzingis if the scouts were already saying this is a no brainer? Because Porzingis wasn't a no brainer at 4.

I put in different scenarios that included taking Mudiay outright, taking Porzingis trading down or simply trading down outright. Yes we could have traded down to 5 for Moe Harkless because he was just traded for a future 2nd round pick to Portland. What couldn't Orlando get at 4 that they ended up getting at 5? Porzingis spent 2 days with the Magic, he was on their big board. They only would trade up for 1 pick, therefore they select Hezonja or Porzingis DUH!

Unless Orlando knew we weren't taking Hezonja(which maybe they did I'll blame Phil here too)I think we only phone interviewed him. Even so there was Denver there waiting for him as trade bait...Mudiay wasn't going to Sacto. My point is it's pretty obvious Phil was dealing from a position of strength in this draft with options.

For crying out loud you started a thread thinking we were taking WCS and started building an iron clad case around justifying taking him at 4....all because of strong hunches. I don't butter myself up to like something from within just because it's coming from within. It has to make sense for me principally speaking or else no can do.

I alluded many times during the draft Mudiay could fall if we don't pick him or if none of the Top pick 3 him. Doesn't mean it's right. Very much the same applies to Philly and Lakers passing on him because you could heavily argue they both needed point guards..... but at least in Philly's case since Embid is going under the knife in the next 7days, there was justification to select Okafor since he was there. I mean Okafor was a consensus Top 3 pick and this thought never wavered too much as being debatable. So your Philly example is pure garbage. Actually Mudiay was somewhat in the mix with the Lakers as he did get 2 workouts with them.

Porzingis was alert and a bit more active to start..Galloway is awful in transition again. Early seems very live showing some rare athleticism.
